Where are you going? Ratchaburi, how about it? EP.1
When mentioning Ratchaburi, the first tourist attraction that comes to mind is undoubtedly Suan Phueng. However, there are hidden gems waiting to be discovered in this charming province. Let's embark on a journey to uncover them!
Ratchaburi National Museum, Mueang District, Ratchaburi Province
Located on Worachet Road in Na Muang Subdistrict, near the clock tower by the Mae Klong River, the museum building was previously used as the provincial city hall. It was built during the reign of King Rama VI in 1922 and established as a National Museum in 1983. It has been continuously renovated, and in 1991, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the official opening of the museum.
The museum showcases the history, archaeology, ethnology, geology, folk art, fishing tools, and cultural lifestyles of various ethnic groups in Ratchaburi province, such as the Lawa Song, Karen, and Tai-Yuan. It also features tourist attractions in the province. Notable archaeological artifacts include the royal sword of Ratchaburi and the radiant Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue, a Khmer art in the Bayon style. It is one of the five statues discovered in Thailand that is in the most perfect and beautiful condition.
The front of the museum also features the sculpture "I-Jud" by artist Tiw-Wasinburi Supanichworaphan. There are currently seven 3-meter-tall I-Jud sculptures, four of which are used for events to generate income for the Ratchaburi National Museum.
The front of the parking lot wall is where the bus is parked. The bus is stylish in that the front of the bus has a QR code for Local Art Space, or community art space, so we can scan and find out where the community art spaces are. This is a really cool idea.
Operating Hours: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and public holidays.
- Admission fee: Thai citizens 20 baht (children free)
- Foreigners 100 baht
- Students in uniform, monks, novices, religious clergy, and official guests visiting in groups are exempt from admission fees.
Parking: Ample space available in front of the museum fence.
Just a short walk from the museum, we come across Tao Hong Tai: d Kunst, a contemporary art gallery. Turning right out of the museum gate, we are greeted by a late 19th-century black and gray Thai house in the Manila style. This is the first contemporary art gallery in Ratchaburi province. Inside, the space is divided into a café and a bakery, decorated with ceramics from the Tao Hong Tai factory.

Between the museum and Tao Hong Tai: d Kunst, there is a small alleyway where you can find hidden street art. Cat lovers, don't miss this!
As you stroll along the Mae Klong Riverfront, you will encounter the Local Art Space, a community art hub where you can capture unique and captivating photographs. Each piece of art is distinct and offers a glimpse into the local artistic expression.
The riverside atmosphere of the Mae Klong River is perfect for chilling out.
Khao Kaen Chan
Visit the scenic views of Ratchaburi at Khao Kaen Chan
Khao Kaen Chan, formerly known as Khao Chan Daeng, is located along Phetkasem Road, approximately 2 kilometers from the city center. It is the highest mountain in the province and accessible by car to the summit. A notable landmark at the foot of the mountain is the royal monument of King Rama I.
On the summit, there is a viharn enshrining the Phra Phuttha Nirokantarai Chaivat Chaturathis, or "Phra Si Mum Mueang" as it is known by the locals. This is one of the four Buddha statues that His Majesty the King graciously commissioned and bestowed upon four different cities: Ratchaburi, Lampang, Saraburi, and Phatthalung.
Unfortunately, the viharn's doors were closed when I arrived, so I was unable to pay my respects to the Phra Phuttha Nirokantarai Chaivat Chaturathis.
In addition to paying homage to the Phra Buddha Nirokantarai Chaivat Chaturathit, when you reach the top, you will be greeted with a stunning view of Ratchaburi province.
- Address: Located on Phetkasem Road, approximately 2 km from Ratchaburi city center.
- Opening Hours: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Daily)
- Entrance Fee: Free
- Parking: Available on top of Khao Kaen Chan, accessible by private vehicles except for vehicles larger than 6 wheels due to narrow, steep, and winding roads.
Khao Bin Cave
The Khao Bin Cave is a beautiful natural tourist attraction located within a national forest reserve. The cave is filled with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. In 1987, the Tourism Authority of Thailand commissioned the Academic Service Office to design and develop the Khao Bin Cave. Electrical lighting and colored lights were installed to highlight the cave's beauty. The cave is located in Moo 11, Hin Kong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ratchaburi Province, on the Ratchaburi-Jom Buaeng Road, approximately 20 kilometers from the city center.
- Travel: It is recommended to travel by private car. Depart from Ratchaburi city center, following Highway 3087 Ratchaburi-Jom Bueng route, approximately 20 km from the province. There are clear signs to Khao Bin Cave throughout the journey. From the entrance sign, travel approximately 1.5 km. The paved road is convenient until you reach Khao Bin Cave.
