How long has it been since we last returned to the place where, as children, our parents took us?
If you ask me now, it will take some time before I can answer. Today we will go to another place that I am sure everyone's parents must have taken them to as children, which is "Khao Din".
Dusit Zoo, also known as "Khao Din", was established in 1895 during the reign of King Rama V. It has been around for a very long time. We started our journey by taking a bus. The entrance to Khao Din is located on the opposite side of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall (bus route 70 passes through this gate) or on the side of Ratchawithi Road (you can take bus routes 18 or 28 and get off in front of the gate). Once you arrive, purchase a ticket and get ready to explore.
It has been more than a decade since I last visited "Khao Din". Not only has the entrance fee increased, but the number of animals, both large and small, has also fluctuated over time. If you enter from the Ratchawithi Gate, you will see a tall creature with a long neck, the "giraffe", standing in the distance as soon as you pass through the gate.
After walking for a while, we were convinced that we had arrived. Naturally, we were eager to see every nook and cranny where these small and large animals reside. So, we decided to purchase a 25 baht ticket to ride the tram and explore the entire Khao Din Wildlife Park. The tram ride was accompanied by a guide who provided commentary on various points of interest through speakers installed on the tram. This was definitely the most worthwhile option.
Or, if you're looking for a change of pace, you can also go for a paddle boat ride.
"Mother Mali," the hippopotamus who has been a resident of Khao Din for over fifty years, cannot recall how big she was when her parents brought her to the zoo. However, she is now very, very large.
Upon seeing the camel, the narrator immediately jumped off the tram and approached it for a closer look. Since they had never been to the desert, they decided to observe the camel at Khao Din instead.
Wow, getting closer!
We decided to get off the tram again to walk towards the baby elephant. The tram ride allows passengers to get off at 5 different stations. When the tram stops at each station, we don't have to get back on the same tram. Instead, we can walk around and wait for the next tram.
Flamingos, the long-legged pink birds, are truly stunning creatures, especially when observed up close. However, their sleeping postures are quite peculiar, with each individual adopting a unique position. Some tuck their long legs under their wings and curl up, while others stand on one leg with their head tucked tightly against their body. These unconventional sleeping positions are a testament to the flamingo's unique and fascinating nature.
The koala stood waiting for a long time, but still continued to sleep soundly during the day.
"The water buffalo" is soaking in the water to cool down.
The sweltering heat may engulf the outdoors, but within Khao Din, a diverse array of trees casts a refreshing shade. As you ascend the elevated skywalk, a gentle breeze caresses your skin, alleviating the oppressive heat. But the wonders don't end there. Nestled within this verdant haven lies a nocturnal animal museum. If darkness fills you with trepidation yet a desire to explore lingers, then seize the opportunity to grasp the hand of a trusted companion and venture into the realm of the night.
I can't remember how excited I was when my parents first brought me to Khao Din as a child. But today, I feel just as excited, perhaps even more so.
He lacks...
No matter how much time passes, the place where the children went remains as enjoyable as ever.
The place where my parents took me by the hand, even though I am now with my friends and siblings, I still remember the time when my parents took me there.
That day… remains the same, even though today… has changed.
Those who haven't been there for a long time should hurry up and go, because Khao Din is going to be relocated to Khlong Hok. After reading this review, grab your small backpack and explore the world of Khao Din.
