Craving a delicious bowl of kway chap? While venturing into the bustling streets of Yaowarat might be tempting, battling through heavy traffic and dense crowds, only to face long queues, can be daunting. Fortunately, there's another fantastic option that offers an equally delectable experience without the wait – Mr. Joe's Kway Chap on Chan Road. Located between Soi Chan 42-44, just a stone's throw from Sathorn, this hidden gem promises an explosion of flavors at an incredibly reasonable price. For those residing further away, fret not! The restaurant is easily accessible via the Sri Rat Expressway (heading from Daw Kanong to Chaeng Watthana). Simply take the Chan Road exit, and you'll find Mr. Joe's on your right-hand side shortly after exiting the expressway (between Soi Chan 42-44). Alternatively, if you prefer the convenience of the BTS Skytrain, hop off at Taksin Station and hail a motorbike taxi or public transportation heading towards Charoen Krung Road. Continue towards Asiatique The Riverfront, but take a left turn onto Chan Road before reaching your destination. Mr. Joe's will be on your left-hand side. So, if you're a fan of kway chap and don't mind indulging in a guilt-free culinary adventure, be sure to pay Mr. Joe's a visit!
The restaurant is located right on the side of the road. If you come during lunchtime, it's hard to miss because there are many people waiting to buy food to take home in front of the shop. There are also many people sitting and eating in the shop, but there are enough seats because they have added more space. The service is fast, so customers rotate quickly. The shop is open every day from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You can come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! But if you come in the evening, you might miss the crispy pork because many people order it.
If you are driving, you will need to find street parking, which can be difficult. Be sure to check whether it is an even or odd day to determine which side of the street you can park on. The police are strict, especially on weekends, and they are quick to immobilize your car and issue a ticket. It is not worth the risk. Make sure to pay attention to the parking signs before you park.
Parking is available on the side of the road. On odd days, park on the side of the shop. On even days, park on the opposite side of the shop. In the picture, you can see that a police car has parked to prepare to issue a ticket to someone who parked in the wrong place.
Parking in Soi Chan 44 carries the risk of wheel clamping, especially for double-parked vehicles.
Despite the long queue for takeout orders, there are plenty of seats available inside the restaurant. The seating area is L-shaped, so walk straight ahead and turn left at the end of the building. You'll find ample seating there.
Pingping usually goes to eat on Saturdays at noon. The kitchen staff and servers are very busy working, but because they have good teamwork, customers get their food quickly, even though the restaurant is full.
The restaurant has a spacious seating area with plenty of fans to keep it cool and comfortable. The good ventilation ensures that even during lunchtime, the temperature remains pleasant and there is no need to wait in line for a table.
Let's take a look at the restaurant's menu. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The main dish, kuy teav, is particularly noteworthy. A regular bowl costs 50 baht, while a special bowl costs 60 baht. We highly recommend ordering the special!
Special Kway Chap without offal (liver, stomach, intestines) served in less than 15 minutes. The broth is delicious and spicy with white pepper, but not too much. The Kway Chap noodles are soft and thick, not chewy or hard at all. Be sure to order the crispy pork and dumplings as well.
The crispy pork has tender fat in the middle, but the ends are crispy and not greasy. It is delicious, but the dipping sauce is a bit too sweet.
Steamed dumplings, steamed buns, and har gow are also available, but the flavors are not particularly outstanding. They are just average.
We had a delicious lunch for two today. We ordered two bowls of special kway chap, one crispy pork, one dim sum, one bottle of plain water, and one bottle of herbal drink. The total cost was 260 baht, which was very affordable. If you're interested, don't miss this place. It's not far from Asiatique. After lunch, you can visit Asiatique or take a boat ride on the Chao Phraya River. It's a great way to spend the day.
