The rain is coming again, the clouds are covering the sky. Finally, the 4-day long weekend has arrived. I planned with my board game gang to go to the countryside, and our destination is "Kanchanaburi".
Embark on a new journey, open your heart once more. This trip spanned three days and two nights, with two distinct accommodations. (Note: I brought a camera but didn't use it. The attached photos were taken with an iPhone 7 Plus and the HUJI app.)
Embark on a journey
- Day 1: Depart from Bangkok at 4:00 AM.
Due to the long holiday weekend, we anticipated heavy traffic and decided to leave early. We arrived in Sangkhla Buri around 10:00 AM and had lunch at a restaurant. The restaurant offered a boat tour to visit all three temples for 80 baht per person. We were a group of seven.
The submerged temple, or Wat Wang Wiwekaram, was originally located here. During our visit, it rained every day, causing the water level to rise and making it impossible to walk around the temple.
Wat Somdet (Old) is situated on a small hill opposite the city of Badal. Upon disembarking from the boat, young guides will lead the way, narrating the history of the temple and instructing visitors on the proper way to pay respects and make offerings.
The final section of the temple is now submerged, only the flagpole remains visible.
- Check in at "Pa Sang Chan Rai" floating house.
The atmosphere is very good, the air is cool and comfortable, there are no mosquitoes. It is close to the Mon Bridge, so you can go for a walk and take pictures. The accommodation will have a mattress, pillows, blankets, 2 floor fans, and a kitchen for cooking your own meals. Overall, it is good, but the water in the bathroom is not very clean, it is a bit cloudy. It might be because it has been raining lately. The price for the first night is about 500 baht per person. (500 * 7)
- Morning Alms Offering on Day 2
6:00 AM. Time to wake up! Whether you're on a trip or at a camp, this morning we crossed the Mon Bridge to offer alms to the monks as it coincided with the beginning of Buddhist Lent. It rained heavily all day and night, but the crowd was still large.
Along the way, there were Mon people sitting on the ground or walking around inviting us to apply powder to our faces. When we entered the city, we had to squint our eyes to adjust to the brightness. The children did not charge us, but we could give them whatever we wanted.
Alms offering sets are available for purchase here at 99 baht per set. Visitors can also wear traditional Mon attire free of charge.
While waiting for the monk, we grabbed a bite to eat. We're not sure what it's called, but we dubbed it "vegetable mixed with flour." It cost 20 baht and tasted surprisingly good. It was a fun and enjoyable snack.
The monk arrived after being drenched in the rain, almost falling ill. I overheard people discussing the color of the Mon monk's robe, which is the same as that of other monks. Amen. This trip brought me blessings.
Afterward, I stopped by to buy breakfast for my fellow travelers who didn't join the alms-giving. Most of the food stalls sold congee, Khao Soi with rice or roti, and deep-fried dough sticks. Drinks were also available at affordable prices.
- Relocation of Accommodation "P'Krong Resort"
Our new accommodation is located on the lake above the Srinakarin Dam, approximately 2 hours away from the previous location. There is a boat transfer service between Tha Kradan Pier and P'Krong Resort. The package includes 5 meals for a 2-day, 1-night stay. There is a papaya salad buffet while cruising on a raft to admire the scenery in front of the Srinakarin Dam. The atmosphere is pleasant, the rooms are comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean. However, there is no mobile phone signal (no service at all). Additionally, electricity is charged by the hour. The accommodation price is 1500 baht per person.
- Day 3: Return trip
The boat to the pier departs between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Those who are in a hurry can return earlier. We are not in a hurry, so we will take the last trip. 5555, On the way back, we stopped by The Village Farm to Café. This place is decorated in a very stylish way, perfect for café lovers. The atmosphere is chic and relaxing.
To celebrate the upcoming birthday of one of our fellow travelers, we ordered a melon turtle cake. Every part of this turtle cake is made of melon.
This is another menu item we tried, the spaghetti. We ordered one dish for 7 people, and it was gone in no time.
After finishing their meal, the young men were photographed. It is not recommended to sleep in this position, as the grass can prick and cause itching.
Our recent trip to Kanchanaburi was an incredibly enjoyable experience. Staying at two different locations allowed us to immerse ourselves in diverse environments and engage in a variety of activities. Due to the weather conditions and water-based activities, we opted to limit our photography, leaving our cameras and phones behind. We look forward to sharing more details about our next adventure!
