Wat Borom Phuttharam is located in Pratu Chai Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, within the area of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. It is situated on the southern part of the island city, along Si Saeng Thao Road.
The Wat Borom Phuttharam temple was constructed during the reign of King Phra Phetracha on the site of his former residence. The exact boundaries of the temple are unknown, as there are no remaining walls. However, evidence suggests that the temple buildings were located within the area of the Buddhist sanctuary. Traces of a wall surrounding the ordination hall have been found. Interestingly, the main buildings of Wat Borom Phuttharam are aligned on a north-south axis, with the ordination hall facing north. This is unusual, as most temples in Thailand face east. However, the eastern side of the temple borders the Khlong Chak Krai Noi canal, which may have prevented the temple from expanding in an east-west direction.
The main architectural plan of Wat Borom Phuttharam features the ordination hall as the central structure. The entrance to the building has been modified, and the main Buddha statue inside the ordination hall faces north. In front of the ordination hall, there is a small prang-style stupa and another stupa with elaborate decorations, both aligned on the main axis. Further north is the viharn, which is not built on the main axis of the temple.
Within the same area, there is a noteworthy landmark: an ancient bridge dating back to the Ayutthaya period. Known as Ban Dinso Bridge, it spans the Chaigrai Noi Canal, an ancient waterway used for transportation during the Ayutthaya era. While the canal has been severed and altered over time, the bridge that stands today has been restored.
The reason I believe this trend will continue is because the Ban Din So Bridge is featured in the iconic historical drama, "Bupphesannivas." In the drama, the bridge serves as the backdrop for a bustling market in the Ayutthaya period, where the protagonist, Karakade, goes shopping for writing materials.
Nestled within the grounds of Rajabhat Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya University, Wat Borom Phuttharam and Saphan Dinso offer a tranquil oasis for students seeking a serene environment for study. The verdant surroundings provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. In the evenings, the area transforms into a vibrant night market, known as Talat Baan Dinso, where vendors offer a diverse array of goods. Visitors can conveniently park their vehicles within the university grounds, ensuring a safe and secure experience.
Come visit us! It's still trendy. Invite your friends to come and take pictures. You'll have a great time.
