Viking BBQ Korean Buffet
Hello.
Viking is the latest Korean BBQ buffet restaurant in the Sukhumvit Plaza project, also known as Korea Town. The restaurant is located at the very end of the building on the right-hand side. Inside, it is a two-story air-conditioned room that is bright, clean, and spacious, especially the buffet line, which is wide and easy to walk around. There is also a small buffet line on the mezzanine floor, which is convenient for people sitting on the mezzanine floor. The buffet here gives you 90 minutes for 359 baht net, but there is currently a promotion for 299 baht net when you come to eat between 11 am and 3 pm, every Monday to Thursday. However, it is not known when the promotion will end. Let's go try it together!
The grill is located in a refrigerator with a sliding lid that opens to the left and right, making it somewhat difficult to use. I like the use of shiny silver plates, which give it a cool Korean vibe.
Bacon: Large, thick slices with good marbling. Available in various meat-to-fat ratios. Recommended.
Pork Neck: Large, thick slices with excellent texture. Recommended.
Bacon with Gochujang Sauce: Thoroughly coated in flavorful and aromatic sauce. Well-executed.
Marinated Pork Neck: Slightly smaller slices with a subtle marinade flavor. Enhanced tenderness and springy texture. Recommended.
Bacon Wrapped Enoki Mushrooms: Full-bite sized pieces. Standard quality.
Marinated Squid: Sliced into long strips in marinade. Not tasted.
Soy Sauce Marinated Chicken: Not tasted.
The smokeless electric stove heats up quickly and the non-stick grill is excellent. The staff is very attentive and changes the grill regularly.
The three dipping sauces I liked the most were 'Korean soybean paste sauce, Ssamjang 쌈장', which had a mild flavor that complemented the food well. There was also a clear sauce similar to soy sauce but not too salty, and a dipping sauce similar to Cantonese sukiyaki that didn't really go with any of the dishes (haha).
The side dishes and vegetables are stored in a difficult-to-use slide-out refrigerator, especially when crowded. The meat selection includes:
- Kimchi made with napa cabbage: Delicious, with good flavor and texture. Recommended.
- Kimchi made with papaya: Noodles are a bit too soft and the flavor is not strong enough. Not recommended.
- Radish kimchi: Large, thick pieces with a satisfying crunch. Standard.
- Salad: Thick, creamy salad dressing with a sweet and savory flavor. Standard.
- Fried batter: Chewy texture with a decent flavor. Standard.
Additional options include pickled radish, pickled ginger, and kimbap.
Fresh vegetables are clean and include: napa cabbage, lettuce, onion, chili pepper, garlic, pumpkin (thinly sliced for quick cooking), and my favorite, sesame leaves.
For hot dishes, it is preferable to avoid filling the trays to capacity when there are few customers, as this helps to maintain the quality of the food to a significant degree.
‘Bulgogi Pork’ – Thinly sliced pork with a slight marbling, tender and flavorful with a distinct and delicious seasoning. Recommended.
‘Japchae’ – Chewy and delicious glass noodles stir-fried with flavorful pork strips. The seasoning is well-balanced and not overly oily. Recommended.
‘Kimchi Pork Stir-fry’ – A juicy stir-fry with a rich and flavorful seasoning. Well-executed.
‘Kimchi Soup’ – Hot and flavorful without being overly sour. Well-executed.
‘Seaweed Soup’ – A clear and flavorful broth, meeting expectations.
‘Tteokbokki’ – The seasoning is well-balanced, but the rice cakes are a bit too soft.
‘Spicy Chicken Stir-fry’ – Long strips of fried chicken tossed in a flavorful sauce that is not spicy but rather salty.
‘Deep-fried squid’ – Large, long pieces that look good, but the batter is thick and hard. The squid itself is chewy and good, not bad.
‘Deep-fried pork’ – The pieces are almost thin, the batter is not thick, and the flavor is enhanced with sauce. Standard.
‘Egg roll’ – It is recommended to warm it on the stove for a while. It will be fragrant and have a light flavor, giving the impression of a tightly packed omelet.
‘Fried gyoza’ – Small, Korean-style dumplings with thick, hard, non-crispy dough. The filling has some flavor, but it's not bad.
‘Fried rice’ – The rice has a good chewy texture, stir-fried with a light fragrant aroma, and lightly seasoned, but it comes out delicious and is good for wrapping with vegetables and grilled pork. Recommended.
Did not try the ‘fried chicken’, ‘plain rice’, and ‘mixed rice’.
Fresh fruits, watermelon, pineapple, cookies, and sweets.
Combine plain water and sweetened water, such as cinnamon water, thoroughly.
Price of drinks outside the buffet
For today's meal, I would like the traditional Makkoli that I am familiar with.
For the latest Korean barbecue buffet restaurant, Viking, I liked the bright and spacious venue and the well-organized food lines. The small lines on the mezzanine floor were a nice touch. The only downside was the difficult-to-use meat and fresh vegetable display cases, especially when people were scooping at the same time. The service was good, with attentive staff refilling water, clearing plates, and changing grill grates. The pork slices were large and thick, and the fresh vegetable side dishes were well-made and complemented the grilled meat perfectly. There was a wide variety of hot dishes to choose from, and the overall taste was very good for a buffet of this price range and in the heart of Sukhumvit. In conclusion, whether it's the regular price of 359 or the lunch promotion price of 299, it's definitely worth it.
Thank you very much.
Best,
Ronaldo
