D.E.D Thailand
Wow, amazing! I don't know how to describe it, but it's truly incredible. This post is all about the restaurant, and the bonus is the people inside, haha! Okay, maybe I'm being a bit naughty, but seriously, this place is fantastic. You could easily spend an hour or two here and not get bored.
Here is a clip to show off.
Exhausted from exploring the bustling streets of Bangkok, I stumbled upon a newly opened cafe near Khao San Road, as mentioned in a passing Pantip thread. Seeking refuge from the sweltering heat and rumbling stomach, I decided to indulge in a refreshing treat. Situated approximately 500 meters from Sanam Luang and Tha Phra Chan, the cafe's prime location on Khao San Road makes it easily accessible. Adjacent to the Bangkok City Library, the establishment boasts a vibrant yellow facade, reflecting contemporary architectural trends.
D.E.D., pronounced "ded," welcomes you with an open door to a spacious and comfortable atmosphere. "Spacious" doesn't mean empty of customers; rather, the restaurant feels airy and uncluttered, with a stress-free color scheme and decor. You can choose from two seating areas: a floor seating area with cushions for lounging and stretching your legs, and a table seating area with round tables for groups and bar tables for solo diners.
The menu at the counter is large and easy to see, especially the prices, which are very clear. It's quite cheap, actually. But what is that thing with the dough, the minced pork with basil, and the spinach with cheese? Out of curiosity, I ordered it. What else could I do?
The dishes presented are: "Spicy Stir-fried Basil with Pork" and "Spinach in Cheese Blanket," which is essentially baked spinach with cheese. The "Green Curry for Merit" initially led us to believe that the restaurant would donate a portion of the proceeds to charity. However, it turned out to be a vegetarian green curry, suitable for those who follow a plant-based diet.
The drinks we ordered were: Hot Japanese tea / Rose petals of the season and Summer colors 555+ The names of the drinks are really cool.
The first sentence describes a meal consisting of "Spinach in a Veil" and "Rose Petals of the Season." The latter is clarified as an Italian soda with a subtle rose aroma and a bittersweet, refreshing flavor. The "Spinach in a Veil" is initially compared to a croissant but is described as having a chewier texture. The second sentence expresses surprise at the delicious combination of savory dishes like stir-fried pork with basil and green curry with the bread.
The name of the restaurant, D.E.D., stands for "Delicious Extraordinary Dough," a unique dough recipe available only at D.E.D. This dough is a blend of two nationalities: French brioche and croissant dough, combined with Thai flavors in the various toppings offered.
To conclude the meal on a sweet note, we indulged in the "Carrot Cake for Sweet Tooths," a dessert aptly named for its balanced sweetness. The cake's flavor was not overwhelmingly sugary, but rather pleasantly sweet with a smooth texture. The accompanying "Chocolate Delight," essentially a brownie, was a revelation. Its dense yet soft exterior and rich chocolate flavor surpassed any brownie we had tasted before.
This cozy cafe provided a relaxing atmosphere for a group of friends to unwind for over an hour. The total bill came to 495 baht, which divided equally among three people amounted to only 165 baht each. This is considered very affordable for a cafe of this caliber.
