Ban Pa Hemiyong is a small village nestled in the Jaeson Subdistrict of Pan District, Lampang Province. Surrounded by a serene and cool atmosphere, it lies approximately 16 kilometers from the Jaeson National Park. The villagers primarily engage in agriculture, focusing on Hemiyong leaves. They process these leaves and create tea leaf pillow products. Additionally, they cultivate organic Arabica coffee. Every February, the village transforms into a breathtaking spectacle as wild Siamese Rosewood trees burst into bloom, painting the hillsides with vibrant colors. This period is fondly known by the locals as the "Siamese Rosewood Festival."
We traveled on Nok Air flight DD8506,
from Bangkok to Lampang, with a flight time of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
And then we arrived at the Ban Pa Hemiang community safely! By the car of Father Manas
who drove to pick us up from the airport. When we arrived here, it was just in time for lunch><
Upon arrival at the homestay, Maepit (the owner) welcomed us with a small khantoke set.
A cute little basket of sticky rice and a must-try dish for everyone who visits here, the Miang leaf salad!
After lunch, we took a walk around the village and stopped by the Song Pan Waterfall, which flows through the middle of the village road, for a quick dip. We then went to collect Miang leaves, as we had arranged with Ma Pit.
It's time to harvest the "Hemieung" leaves! Mae Pit told me that "Hemieung" leaves can be used for many things, such as:
Young leaves or shoots can be boiled to make tea, while older leaves can be used for cooking.
Alternatively, they can be dried and used to make healthy tea pillows.
After collecting the dried lemongrass leaves, we proceeded to the "Baan Pa Hemiang Tea Pillow Group" to make tea pillows.
We stuffed the dried lemongrass leaves into cloth bags, ensuring they were tightly packed. If the drawstring felt loose after tightening, we would unpack the bag and add more leaves until it was firm. Before closing the bag, the mothers, who made the bags themselves, jokingly warned us that we wouldn't be able to close it properly. They also informed us that the tea pillows could be used to deodorize wardrobes, refrigerators, and even cars. When the scent fades, simply air the pillow in the sun, and it will regain its fragrance.
In the evening, a traditional "บายศรีสู่ขวัญ" ceremony was held to welcome the guests. This ceremony is a common practice in the village. The ceremony was followed by a welcoming dance performance by the village children.
And then the long-awaited moment arrived! The mothers went all out for this meal, wow, it was so beautiful! We got to eat like real locals!
The next morning, we traveled to Doi Kew Fin, which is located on the border of Lampang and Chiang Mai provinces.
We went there to see the sea of fog in the morning. After enjoying the sea of fog and taking some photos, we returned to our accommodation.
We had shrimp congee for breakfast, which was prepared by Maepit before we left...
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the fathers and mothers of the Pa Ha Miang community for their warm welcome and hospitality throughout our two-day and one-night stay. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the "OS. Social Community Tour Project" for providing us with this opportunity to gain valuable experience and share the story of this community with others who may not be aware of its existence. This hidden gem, with its peaceful atmosphere and unique way of life, awaits those seeking an authentic and enriching experience.
