This trip proves that the journey is just as important as the destination.

The original destination of this trip was the Royal Botanical Garden in Nan Province. At that time, there was news that Nan was flooded and the road was closed. Even if we could get there, we didn't know if the water would recede in time for us to return. Our backup plan was Chiang Rai. Suddenly, news came out that the road was broken! (We don't know which road, but we didn't want to risk it.)

We discussed the possibility of going later, but when we woke up at 4 am, the van was broken. We waited until morning and then took a songthaew to find a coffee shop. We were stuck in Lab Lae for about half a day.

Ultimately, we decided to change provinces, traveling from the north back down to the Isan region. We settled on Chiang Khan in Loei Province, which was a very long journey, taking a full day.

However, a travel mishap led us to discover a new viewpoint: "Phu Lam Duan".

“Phu Lam Duan” is a new viewpoint in Pak Chom District, Loei Province, known to only a few people. We arrived at 5:30 AM and waited for the sky to brighten before walking up. The distance to the viewpoint is about 1.8 kilometers, and you can either walk or take a car.

Traveling by "e-taek" (a type of local vehicle) takes approximately 20 minutes and costs 50 baht per person for groups of 6 or more. For groups smaller than 6, a flat rate of 300 baht per vehicle applies. Alternatively, there is a walking path that cuts through the mountain, covering a distance of approximately 1.5 kilometers.

Upon our arrival, there were no vehicles available, so we proceeded to walk uphill.

“Nong Namthang” is the name we gave to the kitten because it walked with us all the way from the bottom to the viewpoint. It didn't take us long to reach the viewpoint of Phu Lamduan.

The panoramic view encompasses a 360-degree vista of the Mekong River's winding course, the houses of Pak Chom district, and a long wooden bridge that allows visitors to leisurely explore the surroundings.

If you arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 AM, you will see the sun rise over the Mekong River. In the winter or after the rainy season, you may also have the chance to see a sea of fog. On the day we went, it did not rain, but we encountered cool weather and thick fog.

"Are you enjoying yourself? This place is adorable and perfect for pre-wedding photoshoots. There are so many great spots for pictures!"

This trip was a bit chaotic because we were a large group, but it was a lot of fun because we had the place to ourselves. It was a truly private experience.

This location is approximately 40 kilometers from Chiang Khan. For those planning a trip to Chiang Khan, consider waking up early to experience a change of scenery. Watch the sunrise, enjoy the view, and admire the mist at "Phu Lam Duan."
