The Drunken Leprechaun, a renowned Irish pub in Bangkok located on the lobby floor of the Four Points by Sheraton, Sukhumvit 15, hosted an International Beer Day event featuring four unique beer cocktail recipes created by the pub's bartenders. I had the opportunity to try my hand at making these cocktails myself, and I was impressed by the simplicity of the ingredients and the ease of preparation. Despite their straightforward nature, these cocktails add a delightful twist to the usual beer-drinking experience. All four of these Beer Cocktails require the use of Lager Beer. Let's take a look at the recipes.

Red Eye

Ingredients:

  • Vodka
  • Fresh tomato juice
  • Beer

Instructions:

  1. Combine vodka, fresh tomato juice, and beer in a shaker.
  2. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  3. Strain into a glass filled with 2-3 ice cubes.
  4. Top with an additional 120 ml of beer.
  5. Garnish with a lemon wedge and mint sprig.

'Radler'

  • Pour lemonade (such as 7 Up) into a glass.
  • Add beer on top, creating a layered effect.
  • Garnish the glass by rubbing a lemon around the rim and adding a lemon wedge.

A representative beverage of Germany, this cocktail is very simple, visually appealing, and personally my favorite. The simplicity of the ingredients, just Seven Up and beer, makes it easy to prepare. The layered pouring adds visual interest. The taste is a lighter beer with a touch of sweetness, making it a refreshing and easy-to-drink cocktail that is perfect for hot weather or after a long day.

Michelada

Ingredients:

  • Half a glass of beer
  • Paprika spice
  • 2-3 drops of lemon juice
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Lime juice
  • Salt
  • 200 ml of beer
  • Paprika powder

Instructions:

  1. Combine half a glass of beer with paprika spice.
  2. Add 2-3 drops of lemon juice.
  3. Mix in Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, and salt.
  4. Top with 200 ml of beer and paprika powder.

This Mexican beer cocktail is the most complex of the four, utilizing the most ingredients and steps. As a result, it boasts a multi-dimensional flavor profile, encompassing sour, salty, sweet, and spicy notes. This cocktail truly redefines the boundaries of beer.

Shandygaff

  • Add 3-4 ice cubes.
  • Pour in ginger ale, followed by beer.
  • Garnish with a lemon wedge and mint leaves.

A quintessential British beverage, this simple and refreshing beer cocktail is a perfect choice for those seeking a light and enjoyable drink. Ginger ale enthusiasts will particularly appreciate this concoction.

This hands-on experience in crafting beer cocktails has opened our eyes to the exciting possibilities of elevating our everyday beer-drinking experience with simple yet delicious twists.
