Nagoya: A Hidden Gem in Japan

Tired of the same old destinations in Japan? Looking for something new and exciting? Look no further than Nagoya! With direct flights now available, there's no excuse not to explore this vibrant city.

But you might be wondering:

  • Why Nagoya?
  • What does Nagoya have to offer?
  • Where is Nagoya located?

Let's delve into these questions and discover the hidden treasures of Nagoya.

Nagoya is situated in the Chubu region, which is located in the central part of Japan. In simpler terms, it is situated right between Tokyo and Osaka. Nagoya is considered the third-largest city in Japan. Many people view Nagoya as merely a stopover point, but this perception is bound to change.

Nagoya's convenient location makes it an ideal base for exploring nearby destinations. Visit the World Heritage Site of Shirakawago, the charming old town of Takayama, or even the popular city of Kyoto, all within easy reach of Nagoya. Let's discover the exciting possibilities that await you on your Nagoya adventure.

"NAGOYA"

A castle.

Nagoya Castle: A Symbol of the City

The first stop on our Nagoya adventure is the iconic Nagoya Castle, a landmark that embodies the city's spirit. This magnificent structure boasts a golden shachihoko (mythical fish-tiger) ornament atop its roof, adding to its grandeur. Although the castle's interior was undergoing renovations during our visit, the exterior's beauty alone made the trip worthwhile.

Nagoya: A Shopper's Paradise and More

Nagoya's Sakae district is a shopper's paradise, boasting numerous department stores, restaurants, and brand-name shops. Whether you're seeking the latest fashion or everyday essentials, Sakae has it all.

Beyond shopping, the district offers iconic landmarks like the Nagoya TV Tower, a symbol of the city, offering stunning panoramic views. Adjacent to the tower, Oasis 21 resembles a futuristic spaceship, featuring a rooftop glass walkway and a reflecting pool, perfect for capturing unique photos.

For science enthusiasts, the Nagoya City Science Museum provides an engaging and educational experience. While the museum was closed during our visit due to high demand, it's recommended to arrive early on weekends to avoid long queues.

The stairs at Shiyakusho Station's Exit 7 are stunning and provide a unique photo opportunity. They serve as a clear indication that you are on the correct path to Nagoya Castle.

The Nagoya Castle is truly magnificent, especially its golden roof, which is said to be made of pure gold.

The recently renovated Hommaru Palace is stunningly beautiful.

The Pss Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass for 5 days is a beautiful and cute booklet. We kept it as a souvenir.

🔹 Indulge your little ones! If you have young children, don't miss "Lego Land".

A newly opened amusement park that will transport you to another world made entirely of Legos. This amusement park may not be full of thrilling rides, but it is a perfect destination for children. The highlight is the Mini Land zone, which features iconic landmarks from all over Japan, all constructed from Legos. It's truly an amazing sight, and just taking photos there is a fun experience. In addition to the Lego creations, there is also a Sealife area to explore.

🐠 This zone is dedicated to aquatic animals. If you're a fan of marine life, be sure to check it out!

This charming town boasts a delightful pedestrian zone in the Old Town, lined with quaint wooden houses. The area is brimming with restaurants, dessert shops, and souvenir stores, offering a leisurely and enjoyable stroll. Takayama: A Foodie's Paradise for Hida Beef Lovers

Takayama is a charming town nestled in the Japanese Alps, renowned for its historical streets and, most importantly, its Hida beef. This local delicacy is a must-try for any meat enthusiast, and it's available in various forms throughout the city, from grilled steaks and shabu-shabu to savory buns, sushi, and ramen.

For an unforgettable Hida beef experience, visit Hidagyu Maruaki, a popular restaurant offering both affordable yakiniku (grilled meat) and shabu-shabu options.

Exploring Takayama is a breeze, thanks to its walkable layout. Stroll through the charming streets, admiring the traditional architecture and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Takayama also serves as a convenient base for exploring the nearby village of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its distinctive gassho-style houses.

Shirakawa-go

Shirakawa-go, a picturesque village nestled in a valley, is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a fairytale-like experience. Its iconic gassho-style houses, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attract a steady stream of tourists, especially during the snowy winter months. While our summer visit coincided with rainfall, the village's beauty remained undiminished. Golden rice paddies, lush green fields, and wispy mist created a refreshing and captivating scene. This first encounter left us enchanted by Shirakawa-go's charm.

💚 I really want to travel in every season! But if you come during the peak season, don't forget to plan your trip.

We have finally arrived at SHIRAKAWAKO, another one of our dream destinations! It's even beautiful during this season.

The gassho-style houses in Shirakawa-go are characterized by their distinctive thatched roofs.

Japanese rice paddies are similar to those in Thailand, but Japanese rice paddies are remarkably well-organized and aesthetically pleasing.

The map of SHIRAKAWAKO is also available in Thai. It goes without saying that many Thai people visit there.

"KYOTO"

A Shinto shrine, represented by the emoji ⛩.

Continuing on to Kyoto, most people come from Osaka, but it's also possible to come from Nagoya, just a 35-minute Shinkansen ride away. I've been to Kyoto many times myself, but I still love it every time I visit. This was my first time visiting during the summer, so I decided to take a walk around the city, not too far away, such as Tofukuji Temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine, and in the evening, I walked through the Gion district and stopped by Yasaka Shrine.

The orange pillars of Fushimi Inari Shrine have become a must-visit spot for tourists.

This is another dream spot that I've been wanting to visit for a long time but couldn't find. I finally found it this time and I love it so much.

In the summer, the maple leaves at Tofukuji Temple are all green. Just imagine how beautiful it would be if the leaves changed color in the fall.

Green maple leaves under the soft sunlight are also beautiful in their own way.
