When we are weary, let us walk into the forest... it is indeed true.
Exhausted from studies, work, a hectic life, or mental fatigue.
Sometimes we just want to escape from everything, to a place where no one knows us and we can feel at ease.
I chose to venture into the wilderness, seeking a remote village nestled amidst the mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of civilization. Intrigued? Pack your bags, and let's embark on this journey together...
Nestled amidst lush mountains in Mae On district, Chiang Mai, Mae Kampong is a quaint village shrouded in tranquility. Crystal-clear streams meander through the verdant landscape, creating a refreshing ambiance year-round. Established approximately a century ago, Mae Kampong offers a serene escape into the embrace of nature. Visitors can immerse themselves in the pristine air, lush forests, and pristine streams, while witnessing the harmonious coexistence of villagers with their natural surroundings. Conveniently located near Chiang Mai city, Mae Kampong provides an opportunity for overnight stays in local homestays, allowing for an authentic cultural experience.
Alternatively, if you are short on time, you can visit in the morning and return in the evening.
For those without a car or on a tight budget, traveling to Mae Kampong by public van is a convenient and affordable option. The roundtrip fare from San Kamphaeng Hot Springs is only 150 baht per person, making it a budget-friendly choice. Additionally, passengers can enjoy a visit to the hot springs on their return trip without incurring any extra costs.
Reserving a seat on the San Kamphaeng Hot Springs van is simple. You can book in advance through their Facebook page, "รถตู้น้ำพุร้อนสันกำแพง" (https://www.facebook.com/Van.Hotsprings/). The administrators are very friendly and provide comprehensive information. Highly recommended!
After booking, transfer the money. Then, the staff will send you an online ticket to show the driver on the day of travel.
The day of the trip has finally arrived. I am so excited and thrilled to be taking a van to Mae Kampong for the first time.
The van stop is located at Waroros Market, which is easy to find. It is located opposite the flower market, along the Ping River. Look for the bridge and walk about 200 meters to reach the van stop.
The bus stop provides detailed information, including travel times and route maps. This comprehensive data makes it an excellent resource for travelers.
We booked a round trip flight, departing at 7:40 and returning at 13:20. We will also visit the hot springs.
Before embarking on our journey, the driver provided us with an informative introduction to Mae Kampong village. He highlighted the must-see attractions, cafes, and key points of interest. This was an exceptional experience, as we haven't encountered such a comprehensive briefing before. It truly impressed us even before we began our exploration.
At approximately 9:15 AM, we arrived in Mae Kampong. The journey included some challenging curves, but the skilled and friendly driver put our fears at ease. Contrary to popular belief, the van ride was comfortable and convenient. The affordable price and ease of travel made it an excellent value.
Let's follow the highlights of Mae Kampong from the map of the hot spring van in San Kamphaeng.
Stay tuned for EP.2, where we'll explore Mae Kampong in its entirety!
