Ban Pun Suk Phetchaburi Ram

Wearing white, bathing in a jar, lighting a charcoal stove, sleeping under a mosquito net

For many city office workers, life can be a whirlwind of stress and exhaustion. Leaving behind the relaxed pace of their rural hometowns, they find themselves amidst towering buildings and the daily grind of rush hour traffic. The constant pressure to meet deadlines and navigate the urban jungle can take its toll.

When the weariness sets in, there's nothing quite like escaping the city's clamor and immersing oneself in the tranquility of nature. A weekend getaway to recharge and reconnect with the simple pleasures of life can be the perfect antidote to the urban fatigue.

During a recent long weekend, we decided to embark on such a rejuvenating escape. Our search led us to a charming homestay in Phetchaburi, a mere hour and a half drive from Bangkok. Ban Pun Suk Phetchaburi Ram promised a taste of authentic rural life, a chance to shed the complexities of modern living and embrace the simple joys of a bygone era.

The brainchild of Khun Od, a former city dweller who yearned for a simpler life, Ban Pun Suk Phetchaburi Ram is a haven for those seeking a rustic retreat. Khun Od transformed his two-rai plot of land into a tranquil oasis, complete with a pond, lush greenery, and a menagerie of ducks and chickens. The homestay offers guests a unique opportunity to experience life as it was lived in the past.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the warmth of Khun Od's hospitality. He invited us to shed our city attire and don the traditional white garments worn by local villagers. We then embarked on a refreshing dip in a large earthenware jar, a delightful alternative to the usual showers.

For our evening meal, we gathered around a traditional charcoal stove, learning the art of cooking over an open flame. The vegetables, freshly plucked from the garden, added a burst of flavor to our simple yet satisfying meal. We also enjoyed the freedom to collect eggs from the chicken coop and duck pen, adding a touch of self-sufficiency to our culinary experience.

As night fell, we retired to our cozy room, furnished with comfortable beds and traditional mosquito nets. The gentle hum of crickets and the cool night breeze lulled us into a peaceful slumber. Waking up to the breathtaking view of the rice fields, their emerald stalks swaying gently in the morning breeze, filled us with a sense of serenity and contentment.

Our stay at Ban Pun Suk Phetchaburi Ram was a transformative experience. It allowed us to reconnect with the simple pleasures of life,远离城市的喧嚣,回归自然的怀抱。 We returned to the city feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of rural Thailand.

After parking the car, we walked inside, surrounded by lush green trees.

We stopped by Uncle Thanom's palm grove and bought some fresh palm juice, palm fruit candy, and floating palm fruit.

After finishing our meal, let's choose our loincloths and head for a refreshing bath.

It's time for a bath. This trip, we're going to take a dip in a traditional earthenware jar bath.

The sun sets below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of blue and red.

The Ban Pun Suk at night is also beautiful in its own way.

I returned home to lie down and play in front of the house, hoping to take some pictures of the stars, but the sky wasn't cooperating.

It's time to go to bed and sleep under the mosquito net.

This translates to:

Brother Oad brought us Khanom Krok, Pa Thong Ko, and Khanom Jeeb to eat for breakfast.

Before you leave, don't forget to grab some fresh duck and chicken eggs from the garden!

It's time to go, but I don't want to leave. This place feels like a simple life, but it's so much fun. I got to cook with a traditional stove, bathe in a clay pot, and sleep under a mosquito net in the rice field. It's a simple place, but it makes me happy in a way I can't explain. After staying here, I feel like I've visited a relative in the countryside. P'Od and Auntie took such good care of me. P'Od named this place "Baan Pan Suk," which I think is very fitting. Baan Pan Suk is like a place where the owner has created a space to share happiness and experiences of a self-sufficient lifestyle with many guests. It's perfect for people who live in the city and want to escape, or for people from the countryside who want to relive their childhood.
