A new dimension in travel to the south, "Surat Thani Province"
"Land of a hundred islands, delicious mangosteen, large shellfish, red eggs, and a center of Buddhism."
The Cheow Lan Dam, also known as the Ratchaprapha Dam, is a popular tourist destination nicknamed "the Guilin of Thailand".
Cheow Lan Lake: A Submerged Paradise
Cheow Lan, meaning "rapidly flowing water," is a renowned rapid in the Klong Saeng Canal, known for its powerful currents during the rainy season. Flanked by the Klong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary and Kaeng Krachan National Park, this area represents one of the most pristine and biodiverse regions within the Tenasserim Hills. Situated at the intersection of three southern provinces – Ranong, Phang Nga, and Surat Thani – Cheow Lan sits atop a mountain range, approximately 1,000 meters above sea level.
Today, the once-forested landscape has transformed into a vast lake, a consequence of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's (EGAT) project to construct the Ratchaprapha Dam for hydroelectric power generation. This artificial reservoir has submerged the original rapids, creating a unique and captivating landscape.
Departing by plane from Don Mueang to Surat Thani
After taking a bus into the city and then a tuk-tuk to the hotel, it was already late. We and our fellow travelers decided to stop for a bite to eat at the "Shrine Market in Surat Thani".

Judging from everyone's expressions, they must be really hungry, right? 555+ After eating, let's rest. We have to wake up early tomorrow. See you then!

At 5:00 am on the second day of the trip, we packed our belongings and left the accommodation for Cheow Lan Dam. We arrived at the dam at 8:00 am, where the owner of the raft (Wang Matsa Raft), which we had booked in advance, was waiting to pick us up. There were 18 people in our group for this trip.
A 25-30 minute boat ride will take you to the reserved raft, "Pa Wang Maccha," which offers comfortable accommodations, six bathrooms, and mobile phone reception from all carriers.
After storing our belongings at the accommodation, we set off to explore the scenic views within the dam. A must-visit spot is the "Khao Sam Klero" viewpoint.
"The Three Brothers Mountain, a limestone karst formation rising from the water, is a defining feature of the Cheow Lan Dam. It is a must-visit destination for visitors, who capture its image as a memento of their time in this land, aptly nicknamed the "Guilin of Thailand."

Take a boat back to play in the water in front of the raft. There are also kayaks to paddle around and relax while watching the sunset.

The raft has food for dinner. After playing in the water, get ready to eat dinner. Let me tell you, our room is at the front, perfect for gossiping about conch shells and watching the stars. It's amazing!
The electricity at the dam is open for a limited time. If you are going to charge your battery, please bring your own equipment.
On the morning of the 3rd, we will depart from the floating hotel around 7:30 AM. After a good night's rest, wake up early and brush your teeth in front of your room.
A photo with fellow travelers before leaving Phrae.
Leaving the dam now, see you again soon!
Before going to another tourist spot, let's take a picture with the sign. Let me tell you, those who come without a partner will die alone, because this trip is too sweet. 55+
Suspension bridge over Khao Phang, heart-shaped mountain, admire the unique beauty of Khao Thep Pitak.
Khao Phang Suspension Bridge (Khao Theppitak Suspension Bridge) is another famous tourist attraction in Surat Thani Province. It is located behind Wat Khao Phang, Moo 1, Khao Phang Subdistrict, Ban Ta Khun District, Surat Thani Province. It is close to the entrance of Ratchaprapha Dam (Chiao Lan Dam). The bridge uses large steel cables to secure it to concrete pillars. The floor is paved with wooden planks on a steel frame. The bridge can hold no more than 20-30 people. Parking inside the temple is 10 baht per car. Make merit.
The clearest natural spring in Thailand, the source of the Nam Rat River, a natural wonder in Surat Thani Province.
The Ban Nam Rad Headwaters Forest is a lush and beautiful area that serves as the primary source of water for the surrounding region. The "Ta Nam" spring, the heart of this headwaters forest, is where crystal-clear water emerges from the earth's depths. Locals revere this spring as sacred, and it is a popular spot for boating activities (40 baht/person).
Although this trip has come to an end, the good feelings and memories will never fade from our hearts. This trip may have been a bit hectic, but I'm glad I got to meet all 18 of you. Bye-bye, please leave a review. See you on the next trip!
