Doi Nok, also known as the "Mountain of Faith" (Shambhala of Thailand), is part of Doi Luang National Park. It covers three provinces: Chiang Rai, Lampang, and Phayao. It is another mountain that reaches the sky, with a high, pointed peak that resembles a "cow's hump."
This trip was incredibly challenging for us due to the long distance, weather conditions (during the rainy season), and the constant worry about whether it would rain or not. It was a thrilling and exciting experience, with slippery slopes and leeches clinging to us the entire way. However, it was also an incredibly rewarding trip because we were able to conquer our fears, climb the ropes, and successfully reach the top to pay our respects at the Doi Nok Stupa and the Buddha's footprint. We are incredibly proud of ourselves! Now, let's start our journey from the beginning. Let's go!
The trip had a total of 6 participants. We opted for a bus service provided by the Transport Company. The bus departed from Bangkok at 8:30 p.m. and arrived in Phayao at approximately 6:00 a.m.
We have arrived in Phayao! Without wasting any time, we contacted the park rangers to pick us up and take us to the local market to stock up on supplies. We are ready to camp on the mountaintop! 5555
After finishing our shopping, we took a short car ride to our meeting point (the starting point for the Doi Luang hike).
The trail to Doi Luang is off-road and requires a guide. Each group will be accompanied by one guide.
The scenery on the way up to Doi Luang is breathtaking. Even though we haven't reached the summit yet, the view is already stunning. I wonder how beautiful it will be at the top. (I thought to myself, trying to cheer myself up after walking for less than half an hour. Since I've come this far, I might as well go all the way.)
After two hours of walking, they reached the ridge known as "Sarn Moo Mae Dong," the first steep section of the trail.
After walking for a while, we reached a vast grassland called Den Saek Ng (the second steep checkpoint).
Grumbling as he walked, he passed one hill after another, but still couldn't reach his destination. Haha! Finally, he reached the last hill, known as the "Stairway to Heaven." The campsite was getting closer and closer!
Finally, around 5 pm, we arrived at the peak of Doi Luang Phayao.
This campsite lacks amenities. Food must be brought up from below. There are no restrooms or showers. If you do not bring enough drinking water, you can ask the porters, but use it sparingly as the water source is quite a distance away.
The summit of Doi Luang is characterized by open terrain and extremely strong winds.
After taking care of our meals, we all went to rest after a tiring day. We will continue our work tomorrow.
Good morning, everyone. Our destination today is the majestic Doi Inthanon.
The trail from the campsite to Doi Nok is quite steep and slippery, with tall grass lining the path. It is recommended to wear long sleeves to protect against both scratches from the grass and bites from leeches (although not completely effective).
After a challenging trek, we reached the base of the limestone cliff leading to the summit of Doi Nok. The steep ascent, requiring a rope climb, filled us with trepidation. Initially, we contemplated waiting below, overwhelmed by the sheer height and the potential for a perilous fall. However, our companions encouraged us, reminding us that we had come this far together and should continue as a team. Mustering our courage, we ascended the rope, finally reaching the **highest point of Doi Nok.**
Upon reaching the top, one can feel the strong faith of the villagers and local people. The summit houses the sacred Doi Nok Stupa and the Buddha's footprint.
It's unclear whether it was good or bad luck that we went on a cloudy day. If the sky had been clear, the view below would have been even more beautiful. But on the other hand, if the sky had been clear, we probably wouldn't have dared to go up because it was really high. 555
This concludes our journey from Doi Luang to Doi Nok. For those who enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, and traversing steep slopes, Doi Nok Doi Luang in Phayao is definitely a place worth exploring.
