Kimono and yukata are traditional Japanese garments worn by both men and women. Today, they are primarily worn during festivals or when visiting cultural landmarks such as temples and shrines.
Kimono and yukata share similar overall designs. However, kimonos are generally more formal, grand, and luxurious than yukatas, which are more casual and often worn during the summer months.
Before visiting Sensō-ji Temple, we rented a yukata. There are many rental shops in the area. You can book online in advance, as some shops have long queues and do not accept walk-ins. Prices vary between shops. Some shops offer hairstyling services and provide cloth bags and geta sandals.

The shop we visited was KITSUKE STUDIO, a kimono rental shop. 👘 🎐
We chose this shop because it wasn't crowded when we went and we didn't have to make a reservation in advance. We decided to go there on the spot because we didn't want to look for another place. The owner was very kind and lovely. I actually prefer light-colored fabrics, especially pink, but the owner helped me choose a darker color, which I agreed with. It was nice to have someone help me decide.
For yukata rentals, the price is 3,000 yen per day. If you prefer to wear a kimono, the price is slightly higher at 4,000 yen per day.
After getting dressed, I initially decided not to style my hair because I had cut it very short. However, the shop was able to attach hair extensions and tie it up for me. The shop also told me that my hair needed to be tied up to match the outfit. The hairstyling service cost an additional 1,500 yen and included flowers, ribbons, and a bag. The shop recommended everything, and it turned out beautifully.
Before leaving the shop, they also provided an umbrella prop for taking photos at the shop. As I mentioned, they are very friendly and kind. If you rent it at 1 pm, please return the dress by 5 pm. Let's go, Japanese girl!

Here is the Instagram account for KITSUKE STUDIO kimono rental🎐 in case anyone is interested. I did not receive any compensation for this recommendation. The staff includes English speakers, so communication should not be a concern. They were incredibly helpful and provided excellent service. I highly recommend this shop, as the staff is very positive and attentive.
