Sleeping by the Rice Fields: A Homestay Escape near Bangkok at Baan Khao Hom Homestay in Sing Buri Province

Let's go cycling and enjoy the rice fields!

During the weekend, many people enjoy seeking out relaxing destinations to unwind from various stresses. Ideally, these locations are conveniently located to minimize travel time and maximize relaxation. This trip, for instance, allowed me to experience a homestay amidst the serene rice fields, just a short distance from Bangkok in Sing Buri Province.

The homestay I stayed at, called "Baan Khao Hom Homestay," is located in Sing Buri Province. Let's explore it together and see what it has to offer.

Baan Khao Hom Homestay, Sing Buri Province

Khao Hom Homestay is a traditional Thai-style homestay with a simple atmosphere. It is located by the rice fields, giving you the feeling of a relaxing stay in the countryside with the wind blowing through the fields. The accommodation is divided into two parts: the main house, which is a traditional Thai house where you sleep in the same room as the owner (with air conditioning), and the other part, which is a traditional Thai house located by the rice fields (with a fan) and can accommodate 2-15 people. I chose to stay in the latter because it has a more authentic atmosphere, even though there is no air conditioning, I get natural air instead. 55+

  • Accommodation fee is 750 baht per person, including 1 night's accommodation, 2 meals, snacks, and tourist activities (depending on the season).
  • Tourist activities include trying Thai food or desserts, cycling through rice fields, offering alms to monks in the morning, visiting organic vegetable farms, and visiting rice mills.

Getting to Baan Khao Hom Homestay

Baan Khao Hom Homestay is located approximately 22 kilometers from Sing Buri town. The most convenient way to get there is by private car, as you can stop at various tourist attractions in Sing Buri province. Alternatively, you can hire a car from Sing Buri town to pick you up and drop you off at the homestay, as well as take you to various tourist attractions. Public songthaews from Sing Buri town also pass by the homestay, but they are not recommended as you will have to wait for a long time.

Sleep by the rice field at Baan Khao Hom Homestay

I arrived at Khao Hom Homestay in the late afternoon and was warmly welcomed by Ms. Saipin, the owner of this homestay by the rice field. Ms. Saipin asked me to choose which house I would like to stay in. Of course, since I came to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, I chose the house that was right next to the rice field.

After walking around, I liked the house at the very end, which happened to be vacant. The atmosphere is great right now, the rice in the fields is green and lush.

The resort offers 2-3 traditional Thai houses located near the lake. These houses come in two sizes: small houses suitable for 2-3 guests and larger houses that can accommodate multiple guests.

A walk around the accommodation reveals rice fields, mixed vegetable gardens, and a pond where ducks and geese swim.

The fan room by the rice field comes with a bed, bedding, and a private bathroom. Staying here is particularly pleasant as the morning air is refreshing when you open the window.

The air-conditioned rooms are spacious and comfortable. Choose the room that best suits your needs.

After exploring the surrounding area, Ms. Saipin offered Welcome Healthy Drink, a beverage designed to promote well-being.

Enjoy delicious snacks with natural sweetness.

Evening atmosphere, the sun is setting and the wind is calm. This is really nice, isn't it?

A hammock is tied under the stilted house of a traditional Thai house, where one can lie down and enjoy the breeze.

Stroll along the edge of the pond, watch the ducks and geese play in the water, and enjoy the scenery.

This farm also boasts a **pesticide-free vegetable plot**, where visitors can stroll through the greenhouses and admire the fresh produce. These vegetables are then used to prepare delicious meals for guests to enjoy.

Spicy Mackerel Dip, Salad, and a Hearty Dinner!

After a short while of enjoying the evening atmosphere, the sun began to set, signaling the time for dinner. Ms. Saipin had prepared a simple yet nutritious meal, with a special focus on the **organic vegetable salad**.

The dinner menu consists of chili paste with shrimp paste, fried mackerel, steamed fish, deep-fried vegetables, boiled vegetables, pork bone and bamboo shoot soup, and vegetable salad. The vegetables are sourced from our own pesticide-free vegetable plot.

The highlight of this meal was the opportunity to try tri-colored rice (fragrant jasmine rice, brown rice, and black glutinous rice), which is an organic product of Baan Khao Hom Homestay.

Breathe in the fresh air of a new day!

The chirping of crickets lulled me to sleep early in the evening. I slept soundly and woke up feeling refreshed. It was a beautiful morning with cool, comfortable air.

Opening the window, one can see the fields in the morning. Looking into the distance, it seems as if... there is a faint mist hanging over them.

This feeling is perfect for sipping hot coffee while enjoying the view outside the window.

Morning Activities

The morning will begin with an opportunity to offer alms to Buddhist monks. This can be done conveniently in front of the homestay, where Ms. Saipin will have prepared the necessary offerings for you.

After offering alms to the monks, it was time to explore the rice fields. In the early morning, the sunlight was gentle and there was a light mist, creating a very pleasant atmosphere.

The homestay offers free bicycles for guests to explore the surrounding rice fields. Guests can cycle around the fields or venture further afield if they are feeling energetic.

The rice fields are lush and green. I cycled and stopped to take pictures, enjoying a relaxing morning.

Khao Hom Homestay has banana trees planted along a small canal. The watering method involves using a small boat equipped with a hose that can spray water on both the left and right sides. The boat travels along the canal, spraying water to irrigate the banana trees. If you feel like having some fun, you can hop on the boat and join the ride.

Simple breakfast and homemade Khanom Krok (experimental)

For breakfast, I had a simple meal of mixed rice porridge. It was hot and perfect for the weather. It was delicious, and I could have more if I wanted. Ms. Saipin made a lot for me.

I love the cups and spoons very much. They give a bit of a retro vibe.

Accompanied by a steaming cup of riceberry tea, another product from Baan Khao Hom Homestay.

After finishing breakfast, Ms. Saipin invited us to make khao khluk together. She had prepared all the necessary ingredients and tools, so all we had to do was pour the batter, wait, and scrape it out. 55+

It looks simple enough. The fragrant aroma of flour and coconut milk wafts through the air.

It looks delicious.

Once we had enough, we started digging into the coconut pancakes. It was quite enjoyable, and we had a lot of fun digging in.

The khanom krok turned out perfectly. They were delicious eaten hot.

Visiting the Rice Mill at Baan Khao Hom Homestay

Before embarking on my return journey, I made a stop at the rice mill of Baan Khao Hom Homestay. It is a small-scale rice mill that offers demonstrations of the rice milling process, rice processing, and vacuum packaging.

Rice is the main product of Baan Khao Hom Homestay. It is available in vacuum-sealed packaging, including jasmine rice, brown rice, and riceberry rice. There is also a package containing all three types of rice. You can choose to buy it as a souvenir.

Return trip!

After spending a considerable amount of time, it was time to return home. The two-day, one-night stay at Baan Khao Hom Homestay, located by the rice fields, was a truly refreshing experience. In addition to the relaxation, we were also treated to healthy, organic meals.

If you're looking for a homestay experience amidst the serene rice fields near Bangkok, consider visiting Singburi, just a short distance away!
