“ หมอมี ” is a name that most people have been familiar with for a very long time.
If we talk about Uthai medicine… well, of course, you can probably remember it now, right?
Uthai medicine from Mor Mi was popularly used by previous generations to be dropped into drinking water. However, in recent generations,
it has been more focused on beauty rather than health. Very few households still use Uthai medicine to be dropped into drinking water.
"Baan Mor Mee" Restaurant: A Historical Gem in the Heart of Thailand
"Baan Mor Mee" restaurant, nestled within a 120-year-old ancestral home of the Kesomsan family, offers a unique dining experience that blends history, culture, and culinary delights. This charming establishment has been meticulously transformed into a restaurant and antique café, while preserving its historical significance through a small museum housed within its walls.
Beyond its culinary offerings, "Baan Mor Mee" invites guests to step back in time and explore various corners that retain their original charm. From vintage canoes to hidden bomb shelters, each element whispers tales of a bygone era. This captivating blend of the past and present creates an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and enchanting.
In the past, the northern side of the house was adjacent to the Saen Saep Canal, with a pier and wooden stairs leading down to the water.
This provided convenient access to water and transportation by boat, which was a common mode of travel in that era.
During the rainy season, when fish were plentiful, family members would catch fish and children would learn to swim in the canal.
They would also witness merchant boats stopping by to sell goods, especially during festivals.
The family would often take their canoe, named "Suwan Wetsamon," for leisurely rides along the Saen Saep Canal.
This type of boat was rare at the time, so people on both sides of the canal would immediately recognize it as belonging to the doctor's house.
During World War II, large pits were dug in the front yard of the house to serve as bomb shelters. These pits were dug deep into the ground and lined with cement up to the surface to reinforce them. They were wide enough to accommodate 8-10 people.
Another pit was made in the shape of a gourd, with a narrow opening and a wider bottom, also buried in the ground. Inside, there was a compartment to store drinking water in case of a prolonged stay. This pit could hold 4-5 people. Due to the small opening, people had to climb down one at a time and sit close together.
This is the front entrance of the house.
As you enter, you will find a coffee shop where you can relax and enjoy a drink.
This is a paragraph with text centered.
Behind the coffee shop is a small museum.
The restaurant zone is accessible through the left-hand room.
The restaurant offers a variety of seating options, including glass-enclosed, private, and conference room settings.
While waiting for your meal, a must-try beverage is the "Mormee Thai Cooling".
The taste is similar to strawberry soda, but with a drop of Uthai-Mormee medicine. Drinking it will make you feel more refreshed.
For today's menu, we will focus on the recommended dishes that everyone must try, which is "Gaeng Ranjuan".
It is a royal dish that has been around since the reign of King Rama V. The main ingredient is shrimp paste curry, which has an enticing aroma.
The taste is spicy and the meat is very tender and smooth.
The next menu will be
“ Lemongrass Fried Sea Bass ”
“Green papaya salad”
“ Grilled Chicken ”
“ Spicy Salmon ”
“ Mangoes are sour, lemons are bitter. ”
“ Palm fruit in syrup ”
And last but not least, the food is delicious.
The photogenic corners are also great! I can confidently say that this is a one-stop shop for a complete experience.
For your convenience, you can travel by BTS and get off at the National Stadium Station. Then, walk to Soi Kasem San 3. If you are driving, the restaurant has parking available.
