Direct flights from Bangkok arrive at Oslo Airport (Gardermoen), Norway's main airport. Opened for commercial flights in 1998, it remains modern and aesthetically pleasing. The airport boasts a comprehensive and convenient public transportation system, including trains, buses, and other services, facilitating seamless travel to various destinations within Oslo and across the country.
For those of you who have just arrived at Oslo Airport (Gardermoen), fret not, as onward travel to other destinations is a breeze. The airport provides clear and easily accessible information and timetables for onward journeys. This makes planning your trip a seamless experience. For instance, I have a flight booked to Evenes Airport, followed by a car rental to Lofoten, where my adventure begins. The ease and clarity of travel here are truly remarkable.
Henningsvær: A Picturesque Fishing Village in Lofoten
The drive from Evenes Airport to Henningsvær takes approximately three hours, prompting us to choose this island for our first night's stay. This decision allowed us ample time to explore and appreciate the beauty of the fishing harbor at dusk. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the surrounding atmosphere transformed into a romantic and unforgettable scene.
Our accommodation is the Lofoten Arctic Hotel Knusarn, a small guesthouse located on the island. Although it is not large, the advantage of this place is its affordable rooms with a delicious breakfast that gives us the energy to continue exploring. Additionally, we can park our car at the hotel and walk to various points around the island conveniently.
It is remarkable that the most renowned and Instagram-famous location on this island is actually a "football field", hailed as the "most beautiful football field in the world". This extraordinary field is situated on a tiny island in the middle of the deep sea, surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains, creating a breathtaking and unparalleled panoramic view. Every corner of the field feels like a scene from a movie, with nature serving as the backdrop!
Nyvågar Photo Point
Nyvågar Photo Point is a scenic viewpoint on a hill that offers stunning views of the picturesque red houses of Nyvågar Rorbuhotel, a charming accommodation option on the island. However, capturing the perfect shot from this angle requires a detour, as the steep cliffs make it impossible to walk directly from the hotel. Opting for an alternative route will provide a more convenient and safe approach.
The aurora borealis here is truly breathtaking.
Skagsanden Beach
A must-visit spot for photography enthusiasts is Skagsanden Beach. This location offers stunning photo opportunities during the golden hour or under the mesmerizing aurora borealis.
The night we went to take pictures was a night when the aurora borealis was visible with a Kp index of 5.6. This made the trip a very special memory for the two of us.
Hamnøy
When discussing travel to Lofoten, many of you have likely encountered images of the iconic red fishing villages nestled amidst towering cliffs and expansive skies. These captivating landscapes have become synonymous with the region's allure.
This is Hamnoy, one of the most famous spots in Lofoten, renowned for its breathtaking Northern Lights photography amidst the dramatic backdrop of snow and crashing waves. This location is a favorite among tourists seeking to capture the raw beauty of nature.
Photographers can conveniently set up their tripods on the bridge over the river to capture the aurora borealis, with a view of the distinctive red village nestled amidst the surrounding natural beauty.
Eliassen Rorbuer
From our vantage point, we can observe numerous red houses situated on the island of Hamnoy, which is actually part of the Eliassen Rorbuer, a landmark hotel in the area.
The decision was made to stay at the Eliassen Rorbuer for the entirety of the trip. This accommodation is situated directly on the waterfront and offers stunning views of the Northern Lights from the comfort of the guest rooms. This unique feature allowed for the convenient observation of the Northern Lights' splendor from within the room each night, making for a truly unforgettable vacation experience.
Fredvang
In our opinion, the most beautiful bridge in Lofoten is the sea bridge to the island of Fredvang. This bridge not only connects two islands but also serves as a visual guide that leads our gaze directly to the **prominent snow-capped mountain** in the foreground. The grandeur of the snow-capped mountain in the background makes this bridge appear like a painting created by nature itself.
Horn
Another stunning and easily accessible viewpoint is the mountain range, where we took pictures together. Kim and I jokingly remarked that the mountain range resembled the Sorting Hat from the Harry Potter series.
The scene's captivating curvature and magical allure evoke a sense of enchantment, inspiring us to capture a photograph together in this corner, bathed in the ethereal glow of the aurora borealis. The setting evokes a feeling of being transported to the enchanting world of Hogwarts.
Reine
Another must-visit island when visiting Lofoten is Reine, the largest island in the Lofoten archipelago and a must-see destination. The highlight of Reine is the majestic triangular mountain that stands tall, resembling a scene from a painting.
From a distance, the mountain stands out against the backdrop of the sea and sky, creating a breathtaking and unforgettable vista.
The sight of this village at dusk was breathtaking, leaving us speechless. The golden light of the setting sun reflected off the ocean, illuminating the village with a warm glow. The houses, adorned with twinkling lights, created a dreamlike atmosphere. The vibrant colors of the sky, the houses, and the surrounding nature were simply indescribable. This is a sight that must be experienced firsthand to be fully appreciated.
The Dragon's Eye
A popular spot for landscape photographers is the Dragon's Eye. This is a deep, circular rock formation with a natural rim that resembles a dragon's eye.
This angle will not offer the dragon's eye view during high tide, as the water level will completely cover it. We recommend visiting during low tide to experience the full beauty and clarity of The Dragon's Eye.
Olenilsøya
The picturesque yellow village, which dominates the entire island's color scheme, offers charming photo opportunities at the Olenilsøya pier.
This location is ideal for portrait photography, with the yellow village serving as a picturesque backdrop. The composition is harmonious and visually stunning.
It is recommended to visit this place in the evening, as you will be able to see the lights in the village turned on, creating a warm and chilled atmosphere, just like a dream.
