If you've ever... been to a luxurious, civilized, extravagant, and magnificent place
If you've ever... been to a beach full of tourists, like a village swimming pool
If you've ever... been to a chic, cool place with a hipster vibe

If you've ever... done all of the above and want to try something new, we recommend that you read this review
and join us, the "Team Rolling", in experiencing UNSEEN tourism.

Hello, we are the "Rolling" team, a team selected from the CU Creative Travel project. The three of us have been assigned to travel to Loei Province, with Chaiyaphum as a connecting province. The concept of our trip is "ADVENTURE" and "UNSEEN".

If you're ready, let's embark on a journey to experience nature and wildlife together. GO! GO!

This trip took us a total of 5 days and 4 nights, starting with a journey to Chaiyaphum Province for 1 night, followed by Loei Province for another 3 nights.

Our first destination is Phu Khieo-Thung Kamang in Chaiyaphum Province. The main reason we came here is because we wanted to experience nature and see wildlife in an exclusive way, not in a zoo cage.

We departed by tour bus to Chum Phae, leaving at 10:30 PM and arriving around 5:30 AM.

Traveling to Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary is best done with your own vehicle, as there is no public transportation available. The staff recommended that we rent a car from the villagers and provided us with the driver's phone number. They were very kind. If anyone wants to contact them, you can reach Brother Amnuay at (089-728-1950).

Upon arriving at the Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary, we wasted no time and immediately told the officer, "Excuse me, we're here to see the deer at Thung Kamang." The officer asked us in return, "Have you submitted a request for permission beforehand?" The three of us looked at each other without saying a word, our eyes conveying the message, "OMG!! We really had to do that?!"

At that moment, I knew I couldn't just turn around and leave empty-handed! And the heroine's spirit possessed me. I gave the officer a pitiful, pleading look until he finally let me in. Not only did he allow us to enter, but "Brother Wut," the kind and compassionate officer, also became our tour guide. I almost bowed down to thank him for his kindness to us. 555555

Who would come here? If you come with 3-4 people, you can call the Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary at 0843340043. But if you come in a large group, you need to submit a request for permission from the Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary. Don't copy us, okay? It's a bad example. 5555

The first stop on Mr. Wut's tour was the Great Argus pheasant's nest. The most notable feature of this bird species is that they live in large family groups, with parents, uncles, aunts, and cousins all helping to raise the young chicks. This is different from other bird species, which typically form new families after they have raised their young.

A tiny bird named the Treecreeper joined the fun. It can fly, but it must have been bored, so it decided to climb a tree instead. How cool!

After watching the Nok Khun Plan Family show, we immediately asked P'Wut to take us to Tung Kamang. We wanted to see the herd of deer! But! P'Wut told us that the deer would come out in the evening. If we went now, we wouldn't see them because it was too hot! We didn't believe him because we saw from the review pictures that there were hundreds of them (exaggerated). In the end, P'Wut agreed to take us there.

But what I saw was a vast expanse of grassland! Where are the deer?! T_T

If we were P'Wut, we would probably want to shout out loud, "Serves you right! I told you so!" Another thing is that the truth here is not just about deer, there are also sambar deer that look like sheep. But most of the time, it's sambar deer that come out, not deer. You can tell by the white tail.

Without any sand to look at, we didn't know what to do next. So, P'Wut volunteered to take us on a hike and teach us about the forest.

"Thung Kamang" comes from the word "Thung Kalaman" because when you look around, it looks like a basin. But the reason they didn't use the word "kalaman" is probably because they were afraid people would misunderstand and think they would find deer washing clothes there (I added that last part myself, haha).

Surrounding the grasslands, you will see trees of various colors. This is caused by the burning of the forest, known as "grassland management." It is a management

The area because if the trees are not burned, the area will expand into the grasslands. The deer and gazelles will have no food to eat.

As we walked through the forest, we came across a magical watering hole. It is a pond with pipes buried underground that allow water to seep out, providing a source of water for birds and other animals. This allows us to observe the behavior of the animals without disturbing them. The magical watering hole here was first built in 1997 and is the first of its kind in Thailand.

After P'Wut finished explaining, we really wanted to go in, but P'Wut said that if we wanted to come, we had to book in advance and they only accept 2 groups per day. When we went, the booking queue was already full until the end of the year. We could only look at the magical well from the outside sadly. T_T

Brother Wut, who is kind, asked Brother B (pseudonym), who was watching the birds, for permission to let us in. He agreed to let us in. I was so touched that I almost cried. Brother B used to study and teach at the university we are attending, so we talked like seniors and juniors. Brother B is very kind and friendly. I am still grateful for this.

As we entered, we sat and peered at the birds through small holes. After a while, the first bird landed on a branch. I was so excited, but I couldn't scream or the bird would fly away. I was also afraid that P'Bee would kick me out. 5555555

As soon as I saw the first one, it wasn't long before another one came along. This time, they came as a duo.

The weather is hot. Let's jump into the water to cool down a bit.

Delighted

Besides birds, there are also squirrels coming to drink water from the pond. Observing through this small hole allows us to see the natural behavior of animals. For example, this squirrel is very suspicious. Before it comes to drink water from the pond, it runs around and hides for a long time.

Little squirrel

While I was birdwatching, a Siamese Fireback came to greet me. Mr. Wut told me that this chicken is a single dad raising his chicks alone. The mother was eaten by a fox last year.

After watching birds for several hours, suddenly there was a loud "Grrrrrr..." sound that echoed through the forest. It was the sound of our friend's stomach growling. 5555555 We all laughed. P'Bee even joked, "Who let the hungry tiger out? 555555" When we checked the time, it was exactly noon. His body is so punctual.

There are no restaurants here like in the national park. If you want to eat, you have to order in advance. They will buy food and cook it for you. We didn't book anything in advance, but P'Wut helped us with the food. I felt like a burden all the time. T_T But I guess he was afraid of the sound of a tiger roaring through the forest again. 5555

After finishing our meal, we were left feeling lost and unsure of what to do next. P'Wut had to take care of another group of tourists, so we decided to go and wait at Tung Kamang until the young water buffaloes came out.

After waiting and waiting, my stomach was full and I started to feel sleepy. The air was cool and comfortable, so I decided to take a nap. zZzzZ

I woke up and still didn't see any sandworms. I've never had to wait this long for anything in my life. I've been waiting for almost 3 hours.

The wait was over when we started to see the sand crabs walking out in rows. There were so many of them! It was a truly beautiful sight. We took pictures of them from afar so as not to disturb their privacy. We loved this place. It didn't feel like we were visiting, but rather that the animals were the locals and we were the visitors who had to respect their privacy.

We were very impressed with our first day trip. The phone had no signal, so we were able to put down the burden of all the chaos and have a real rest. Even though we know that when we go back, there will be many things to think about and we will have to face the chaotic reality, but it is worth it to have a rest and think about ourselves.

Another impressive thing is "Brother Wut's work". We can clearly feel how much Brother Wut loves his work and enjoys it. Every time Brother Wut tells us about nature, it's like he's sharing what he loves with others. How often do we meet people like this who are ready to give happiness to others through what they love?

After taking pictures of the herd of deer and the small sand meat, we said goodbye to Brother Wut with a feeling of gratitude for everything.

We left Phu Khieo and stopped by the Wildlife Breeding Center and Bon Nam Prom for a short visit before heading to Chulabhorn Dam, our accommodation for the night.

Accommodation at Chulabhorn Dam is very cheap. The rooms are clean and the food is delicious. I am very impressed with this place.
