Judging from the price, it seems very worthwhile, as it is a full-service flight with a transfer in Vietnam.
Full service available, including liquor, medicine, grilled fish, pillows, blankets, and a bag weight of up to 30 kg.
Not only that, but you also get to fly on the brand new BOEING 787 DreamLiner.
It's hard to resist.
I've been eyeing this for a while, and as soon as the budget was approved by the army chief, I immediately booked it.
Here are the details of the trip I booked.
Outbound May 8th, Bangkok - Ho Chi Minh City - Narita
Return flight on May 15th, Narita-Hanoi-Bangkok.
The total price of the reservation is 8,165 baht, including 30 kg of luggage allowance.
I flew from Chiang Mai and connected at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.
Even though I had a 4-hour layover,
I had two consecutive domestic flight delays. The first delay caused a flight change, and then there was another delay.
It was a close call at Suvarnabhumi Airport. I almost missed my flight after rushing through immigration.
Let's start at the gate. Luckily, they haven't called for boarding yet.
The plane is now waiting at the GATE.
The flight from BKK-SGN will be on an Airbus A321.
Whew, lucky I made it to the plane on time. I thought I was going to miss my flight.
This is a Business Class seat. It is more spacious than a regular seat, but the price is definitely not around 8,000 baht for a round trip.
And then we arrived at the Economy class seats, which are suitable for our status.
The seats are quite spacious, with ample legroom for comfortable stretching.
On the ceiling, there are screens at intervals showing comedy programs for viewing.
Outside the plane window
The front seat pocket also contains a well-worn safety manual, an airline magazine, and an emergency bag.
After handing out cold towels and demonstrating the safety procedures, the machine started up.
Once the aircraft has taken off and reached the desired altitude and speed,
A cold cut platter was served for dinner, which was enough to satisfy our hunger after a tiring run around the airport. However, the bread was a bit hard, typical of French bread.
However, the flight was too short to serve coffee. It took only about an hour to fly from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City.
It only takes a short flight to reach Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon. It feels closer than Chiang Mai is to Bangkok.
Upon entering the airport
Just follow the Transfer signs until you find the departures gate.
They passed another round of body searches.
Then I came out to the departure hall.
The departure hall is quite spacious and has a food court on the upper floor.
The prices listed here are in USD. You can also pay in Thai baht.
If you pay in USD, you will receive some change in USD and the remaining change will be in Vietnamese banknotes.
And then I went up to the food court on the top floor to eat pho. It was delicious! The beef was tender, the meatballs were crispy, and the soup was very sweet.
I think it was around 7 USD. I don't remember exactly.
After finishing the pho, I sat and lay down waiting at the gate.
Around midnight, they called me to board the plane.
I got on the bus and smiled to myself. Boeing 787, oh boy.
Today will be the first time in my life that I will be sitting in a plane that they say is built with the latest high-tech technology.
Full carbon fiber, one of the most advanced in the world
As soon as the bus stopped, the first thing I did was look at the engine.
Hey! This is an Airbus A330. Did you send me to the wrong plane? Why isn't it a 787?
In short, the 787 is not available, so they used the 330 instead. I'm bummed.
Luxurious and spacious Business Class seats that recline fully.
I'll sit down if I win the lottery.
Next is the economy class.
8,165 baht to Japan
They have pillows, blankets, screens, and joysticks to play games with. What else do they want?
Stop complaining about 787 and go to sleep.
Let's wait and see on the way back.
Oh, there's a Game Boy too.
I woke up groggily to breakfast. The lady brought a tray and placed it in front of me. She even served me in bed.
For breakfast, I had the choice between Japanese-style grilled fish and a Western-style omelette. I chose the omelette.
Rinse your mouth with fruit before eating rice. It's quite delicious.
After finishing the meal, the plane was about to arrive at Narita.
And the A330 brought us safely to Narita.
After that, I just wandered around.
Cut to the return date, May 15, 2016.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I passed through immigration and entered the departure hall.
Found this parked at the gate
Brand new BOEING 787 Dreamliner
Economy class seats have screens and USB ports for charging your phone.
The 3D flight map knows what city is flying through on the left and what is on the right.
Dimmable mirror, oh it's so modern, man.
Passengers do not need to be notified to open the windows during take-off and landing.
Because just the captain pressed the button, the entire glass of the ship became clear at the same time. It's amazing. It's so good.
At first, I asked to sit by the window on the right side so that I could take pictures of Mount Fuji.
But they said that the right side seats are all full, so let's take the left side.
Looking at today's flight plan, I screamed. Today, the seats on the left side will have a view of Mount Fuji.
Get your camera ready, set the settings, and when you see it, just press it repeatedly.
The disadvantages of a dimmable mirror are:
It changes color very slowly. It's been a long time since I've been flying over Fuji.
After passing Mount Fuji, they started serving lunch.
I suspect it was imported from a kitchen in Japan because it uses Japanese rice and the equipment is also Japanese.
After finishing my meal, I watched a movie. I dozed off and woke up a few times, and then I arrived in HANOI. Goodbye, 787.
We'll probably meet again when I have enough money.
On the way back, I chose to transfer at Hanoi airport so that I could try it all out.
Hanoi Airport is more spacious, airy, and cleaner than Ho Chi Minh City Airport.
And I couldn't help but order another cup of pho before saying goodbye.
And the Airbus A321 is waiting to take me back to Bangkok.
That's all for the review.
In summary, if you can book a promotional ticket for 8,000 - 9,000 baht, then
For people in Bangkok, I think it's very worthwhile.
Because I was able to fly on a full-service airline with a 30 kg baggage allowance.
The entertainment system on board is complete, including pillows and blankets.
And there are 4 more meals served with unlimited beer, wine and snacks.
All of this for a few thousand baht, not exceeding ten thousand.
Connecting flights are not difficult at all. If you choose flights with long layovers, you can take the opportunity to visit the city.
If you're tired of waiting a long time, choose a flight that's close together, stop by for a delicious bowl of pho, and then wait for your next flight.
But for people who live in Chiang Mai like me
Three stopovers in a row is quite a lot.
Up and down, sitting and waiting until I'm bored. Plus, I got delayed and had to run around the airport until I almost missed my flight.
Next time, I'll probably look for something with fewer layovers.
That's all for the review. Thank you everyone for watching.
