With the rainy season approaching, it's time to plan a rainy season travel itinerary. A trip to the northernmost part of Thailand isn't quite ready yet. What should I do?
In the end, it will probably be here, Phetchabun, the city in the mist, one of the 12 cities you must not miss...
Everyone goes to Khao Kho, everyone goes to Phu Thap Boek, so what are we waiting for? We have to go see for ourselves what's so good about it!!
When I arrived at Khao Kho, the first place I went to was Sri Dit Waterfall. Our first goal was to find lunch to eat. When you come to a waterfall, you have to eat papaya salad, right? We chose a restaurant. There were grilled chicken and papaya salad shops lined up at the entrance. I was so hungry that I don't remember anything about the restaurant I ate at, not even the name. But what I do remember is that it was delicious, filling, and inexpensive.
At Sri Dit Waterfall, the locals are butterflies. Wherever you walk, you'll see them, both flying and clinging to the ground and paths we walk on. My little one had a lot of fun chasing butterflies.
It is a fairly large waterfall with a strong current.
After admiring the waterfall and chasing butterflies for a while, our next destination was Khao Takhian Ngoh, another 360-degree sunset viewing point. When we arrived, it was crowded with people, all with the same goal: to enjoy the view and watch the sunset.
Here, my little one made a new friend too. They met for the first time and hugged each other already. 555
The view from the top of Takhian Ngoh Mountain. The sun was obscured by rain clouds until it was gone. There was nothing to do but accept it and take pictures of the flowers that were planted for viewing instead.
We stayed at Baan Dhattiya Resort. The atmosphere was friendly and the owners were very friendly. Breakfast was rice porridge and toast, but the highlight was that you could refill it as much as you wanted. And it was so delicious that we ate at least two bowls each (the third bowl was just a little bit).
We set off early in the morning, heading towards our next destination: Phu Thap Boek. As we continued our journey, we reached Highway 12 and passed by the BN Farm. Seeing many cars turning in, we decided to stop by out of curiosity.
What you see is a tree tunnel, which is the entrance to the farm. It's so beautiful that I had to get out of the car and take some pictures. When I got to the farm, there were farm products for sale, a coffee shop, and processed farm products. So I ordered a cup of passion fruit ice cream before continuing my journey.
Another must-visit destination is Wat Pha Sorn Kaew. If you come to Khao Kho and don't visit Wat Pha Sorn Kaew, it's like you haven't been here at all. There's no need to describe it much, it's simply beautiful, peaceful, shady, and stunningly beautiful. Whether you're walking around the temple or taking in the views, the atmosphere is truly refreshing. Every breath of fresh air is pure bliss.
After visiting the temple, it's time to get some caffeine into our veins before heading up to Phu Thap Boek.
For me, the best place to enjoy a cup of coffee is not at a fancy cafe in Bangkok, but rather at a place where I can dangle my legs, sip my coffee, and be surrounded by mist. This place is none other than Pino Latte, located on the way up to Wat Pha Sorn Kaew. The road up is quite steep, so please drive carefully. But once you reach the top, I can assure you that it will be worth the effort. The coffee may cost a hundred baht, but the view is worth a million. And if you're lucky enough to be greeted by the mist, then it's worth even more.
Okay… it's time to move on. I'm a little scared because I've never driven up a mountain on such a winding road, but I've come this far, so I'll go all the way.
The fear vanished as soon as I arrived. If I hadn't come up, I would have cried myself to death.
Upon arrival, we had to grab lunch as usual. I'll leave it here. The food at this restaurant is pretty good. The price is not cheap, not expensive. It's right at the entrance to the highest temperature measurement point.
After lunch, I had to drive around Phu Thap Boek. Luckily, it was raining, luckily it was cool and luckily there was fog.
Our accommodation for tonight, Phu Karn Garden Sea of Mist, is located right at the entrance to the Wisahกิจ. The view is beautiful, the price is reasonable, and it comes with a gas water heater. Without it, we would have surely frozen to death that night, as it rained lightly all day and the temperature dropped to a chilly 13 degrees Celsius at night. Brrr.....
We stayed in the red house at the bottom because it was closest to the view. Each house was painted in a bright, eye-catching candy color, making them very inviting.
We arrived at Phu Thap Boek and headed straight to the highest point to check the temperature. However, due to the light rain that had been falling all day, there was fog covering the entire area, making it impossible to see the view. So, we just took some photos of the flowers around the temperature measurement point to cheer ourselves up.
On the top of Phu Thap Boek, there are souvenir shops selling local products and souvenirs for tourists to choose from at their leisure.
Waiting and waiting, the sky still hasn't cleared. I waited until it was evening and took pictures even though the fog was thick. I'm afraid of running out of light. Even though the sky is not clear, I can still feel that it is beautiful. How beautiful it would be if the sky were clear. I can only pray that it will be sunny tomorrow.
Waking up to the fresh air that filled my lungs was truly a delight. It was refreshing to the core, just as I had hoped. However, I was slightly disappointed not to see the sea of mist as I had imagined. The fog remained thick and spread across the entire sky of Phu Thap Boek as usual. So, we spent our time walking, breathing in the fresh air, and admiring the morning atmosphere of the Thap Boek village.
Seeing that there was no sign of sunshine, we decided to evacuate. This time, we were unsuccessful in seeing the sea of fog. We'll have to try again next time.
On the way back, we took the route that enters Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park to reduce the thrill of the journey 555. The route in Phu Hin Rong Kla is not very steep, the road is good all the way. Most of the way is a winding forest with no ravines to worry about. I like this kind of thing, and I took the opportunity to visit various points in the park as well.
After leaving Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, we found ourselves on Highway 12 with some time to spare. So we decided to have lunch at Route 12, another recommended spot on the way to Khao Kho, Phetchabun. It's a small community mall with a natural atmosphere, surrounded by mountain views that make you feel like you're walking in Switzerland. There's a bit of a country vibe, with a steakhouse, souvenir shops, and cafes for tourists to choose from. Although I missed the opportunity to see the sea of fog this time, I can honestly say that I don't regret visiting Khao Kho and Phu Thap Boek. We'll meet again soon. Goodbye, Khao Kho.
