In this cool rainy season, don't just lie around and enjoy the atmosphere. Go out and brave the rain, breathe in the natural scent on Doi Inthanon.
When talking about Doi Inthanon, most of us tend to think of the highest point in Thailand, with pictures of people taking photos with the sign (including ourselves). But in reality, Doi Inthanon has many natural attractions. You can say that coming to this mountain is like getting a full lungful of oxygen, and your eyesight will be restored to good health by the comfort of looking at the 360-degree green nature.
Let's take a look at some of the places you can visit at Doi Inthanon during the rainy season.
This trip was for two people, and we were determined to go up the mountain. We traveled by car because we wanted to try driving up the mountain, but we forgot to think, "Hey, we don't know how to drive up the mountain." "Hey, it's the rainy season." "Hey, how do we drive to Inthanon?" But we tried driving anyway, enjoying the lush green scenery along the way.
#1 The first place we visited was "Baan Mae Klang Luang".
The lush green terraced rice fields that once graced the hillsides in the reviews were now competing for attention right before our eyes. The moment was simply breathtaking. The vibrant green, the stunning beauty, and the faint mist were all too much to take in. We couldn't resist pulling over and taking deep breaths of fresh air. Everywhere we looked, our eyes were met with a feast of green, a soothing balm for the soul.
This lush greenery is also embraced by the water in the soil. Anyone who wants to walk in and take pictures, don't forget to prepare shoes that are ready to get dirty with nature. As for us, we just wear comfortable flip-flops.
After standing and taking photos for a while, it started to drizzle. We decided to continue our journey. Along the way, there were lush green trees everywhere. We opened the windows and felt the natural air. It was really nice.
#2 The second point is the Inthanon Royal Agricultural Station.
At the Inthanon Royal Agricultural Station, there are houses, waterfalls, flower gardens, delicious restaurants, and vegetable gardens. As soon as I arrived at Inthanon, I walked straight inside without taking a picture with the Inthanon sign. When I walked inside, I saw only big green trees everywhere.

Super fresh salad because they grow it themselves right there.
(The food is delicious, I love it so much)
#3 Wachirathan Waterfall
And if you walk past the accommodation area, there will be a sign pointing to "Vachirathan Waterfall". We walked in for a while, but it was actually quite a long time. We walked around and couldn't find it. 5555 In the end, we found Vachirathan Waterfall. It's quite beautiful, especially during the rainy season when you'll find it full of water.
Continuing on from the Khun Inthanon Royal Agricultural Station, we drive up the mountain for a while and we will come across ...
#4 Nang Phaya Nak Shrine - Nang Phaya Lae Shrine
When we went there, the fog was very thick. We couldn't see anything from the car. We could only see the road for about 10 meters. It was also very cold. I was wearing shorts and I was shivering. This is what we saw.
It also looks like a warehouse and has power in another way ~.~
After paying our respects and taking a quick stroll around the flowers, we continued our journey to the next destination, the highest point in Siam.
#5 Doi Inthanon "The Highest Point of Siam"
When we arrived, my partner asked, "Where's the view?" From the highest point in Siam, I was prepared to see a lot, but my partner didn't realize that the only thing that indicated the highest point in Siam was a sign. Haha (I didn't take a picture). When she found out, she looked blank for a moment. But there was a little area to walk around there.
At the peak, besides the sign, there is also a "Phra That Phra Chao Inthawichayanon, or the Ku Phra Chao Inthawichayanon", standing amidst the tall trees. On the day I went to the peak, it was like there was rain or dew dripping down all the time. It might be because the air in that area is very humid, causing water droplets to cling to the grass and trees, making it a very lush green atmosphere. Normally, if we go there during the winter, it's more like dry weather, right?
After completing a loop around the lush and verdant peak of Siam, we set our sights on the Kew Mae Pan Nature Trail, eager to experience the scenic path that had graced countless Instagram feeds. However, to our dismay, the trail was closed for ecological restoration, with plans to reopen in November. Undeterred, we discovered an alternative nature trail nestled near the summit of Doi Inthanon, known as the
#6 Nature Study Trail "Ang Ka"
Let me tell you, anyone who says that the mountain peak is lush and green, must lose to this hiking trail. Because it is very, very abundant. Water drips all the way, you know.
Let's get to know Ang Ka first. (Information from: emagtravel.com)
- "Ang Ka" is a pond of about ten rai, located on the top of Doi Inthanon. It is filled with water all year round. The origin of the name "Ang Ka" has about three sources: there is a rock that resembles a crow in the area, in the past there were crows playing in the water near the pond, and lastly, it is a corruption of the hill tribe language "Ang Ka" which means big mountain.
- The ecosystem of Ang Ka is unlike any other. It is located at an altitude of over 2,500 meters above sea level, has waterlogged all year round, is constantly covered in fog, has an average temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, and has high humidity. The plants found in this area are rare, such as wild rice, thousand-year-old roses. The large trees are covered in moss and ferns, leaving almost no empty space on the branches.
- The nature study trail is about 300-400 meters long and is flat and safe.
As we walked in, we both felt like fat people who had transformed into tiny figures in a giant forest. Nature makes us feel small.
The nature here is truly magnificent. Personally, I've never been anywhere as lush and green as this. And when we went hiking, it was just the two of us because it was a weekday during the rainy season, so it was incredibly quiet. The sun wasn't shining brightly, and it had an eerie feeling to it. I kept thinking something might jump out at us, and if it did, I would have definitely run for my life.
Let's see how green it is.
How green is it, ask your heart
The path inside is a wooden bridge.
To avoid disturbing nature, please stay on the path.
We spent about an hour walking and taking photos, enjoying the natural beauty of the Ang Ka Reservoir. We felt a sense of peace and connection with nature as we walked around the reservoir. The experience inspired us to explore more natural trails, as there is so much to discover. If you visit Doi Inthanon, be sure to hike around Ang Ka Reservoir and experience its rich biodiversity.
Here's what we learned from our recent trip to Doi Inthanon:
- Don't expect rain or lush greenery.
- Study the route and practice driving before heading up the mountain. This was my first time driving up a mountain, and it was quite a thrill! The roads on Doi Inthanon are excellent, but the descent involves a long, steep stretch. Be mindful of brake fade and fog!
- *If you're traveling with a large group, renting a songthaew (shared taxi) might be a good option as you can split the cost. However, if you're a smaller group, renting a car is more practical as it allows you to stop at various points of interest. Plus, car rentals are quite affordable. During our trip, we found a promotional rate for a car rental that cost less than a thousand baht. It made for a very relaxing journey.
- The food and accommodation at the Royal Agricultural Station Inthanon are fantastic. The food is delicious, and the accommodations are comfortable.
- The atmosphere and air quality at the Royal Agricultural Station Inthanon make it an ideal place to work remotely. ....
- The highest point in Thailand doesn't offer mountain views. Or if it does, we didn't see them during our visit.
- The Ang Ka Nature Trail makes you feel tiny, like a creature in a jar.
Goodbye.
