Limited budget, limited resources? No worries! We have the perfect solution for you. Embark on a local adventure that will transport you to a foreign land without breaking the bank. Get ready to experience the magic of a picnic under a cherry blossom tree, just like in Japan. Let's explore the hidden gems of Thailand that will make you feel like you've stepped into another world.

The Indochinese tiger has many important locations in two provinces:
1. Chiang Mai: Khun Chang Kian, Ang Khang, Mae Ta Man, Khun Wang
2. Loei: Phu Lom Lo, where thousands of rai are planted and bloom beautifully.

We chose Chiang Mai because it offers more activities (life without Chiang Mai is impossible). Why do we choose to visit two locations every year?

1. Khun Wang
2. Khun Chang Kian

Khun Wang

The Royal Agricultural Research Center, Chiang Mai (Khun Wang) is another project initiated by His Majesty the King. It serves as a research and propagation center for highland crops, aiming to promote and transfer technology to highland farmers and to replace opium cultivation. Khun Wang is currently in full bloom, with large, vibrant flowers covering the entire mountain. The stunning scenery attracts a large number of visitors.

Travel

Located on Doi Inthanon, take Highway 1009 (Chom Thong-Inthanon) up the same mountain as Doi Inthanon at Km 57. Around kilometer markers 30-31, there is a sign to turn right towards Ban Khun Klang. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and covers a distance of approximately 115 kilometers. You can drive there yourself.

The road is difficult and narrow, making it challenging for inexperienced drivers. It is recommended to take a shared taxi from the Phra That Doi Suthep area, passing through the Phuping Palace, Doi Pui, and reaching Khun Chang Kian. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and covers a distance of about 14 kilometers.

Khun Chang Kian offers stunning panoramic views of the Huay Kaew Valley. While the crowds are manageable, the journey can be challenging, especially for inexperienced drivers due to the narrow and difficult roads. It's recommended to hire a songthaew (shared taxi) from Doi Suthep, passing through Phuping Palace and Doi Pui before reaching Khun Chang Kian. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and covers a distance of 14 kilometers. We opted for a red songthaew, which cost 300 baht per person for a round trip, which we found reasonable considering the challenging route.
