Would you believe me...?
If I told you that.... I have never visited the magnificent Bang Khun Phrom Palace, even though I was once a financial journalist for the Bank of Thailand." It sounds ridiculous, but today that dream has come true. I have had the opportunity to experience the magic and splendor of Bang Khun Phrom Palace, the exquisite European-style architecture, and the history of Thai currency from the past to the present.
The Bank of Thailand Museum is located in the Grand Palace of the Bang Khun Phrom Palace. This palace was built by King Chulalongkorn as a residence for Prince Bhanurangsi Savangwongse, the 33rd son of the king. After 1932, the palace was used as a government office until 1945. The Bank of Thailand then used it as its headquarters until 1982, when it was converted into the Bank of Thailand Museum.
The museum is open to the public for 14 rooms, divided into 2 floors. The first floor includes the Ancient Currency Room, the Beetle Room, the Thai Mint Room, the Thai Banknote Room, the Gold Seal Room, and the Foreign Currency Room. The second floor includes the 60th Anniversary Room of the Bank of Thailand, the Banknote Printing Room, the Bripattar Room, the Small Meeting Room, the Pink Room, the Blue Room, the Horse Stable Room, and the Vivat Vithayanon Memorial Room. The museum is open to the public every Saturday from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free of charge.
Visitors to the Bank of Thailand Museum must dress modestly and are prohibited from taking photographs inside the Bang Khun Phrom Palace building. As a result, this trip does not include any photos of the interior of the palace, which is a great pity. However, upon entering the Bang Khun Phrom Palace, the first thing I noticed was its indescribable beauty.
Bang Khun Phrom Palace is not only beautiful on the outside, but the interior of the palace is just as stunning. In addition to the beauty we experienced this time, we also gained knowledge about the history, evolution of Thai currency, monetary systems, and much more.
It was a truly worthwhile trip.
