This trip was exceptional, as I was honored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to capture the atmosphere of the 5th Phu Sang Tiger Mountain Bike Race. I also had the opportunity to experience the breathtaking views from the newly opened high mountain viewpoints, including Phu Phathai and Phu Chi Duen, along the scenic route of Doi Pha Mon, a true paradise.

I started my journey to Doi Phu Nang National Park, Chiang Muan District, Phayao Province on December 24, 2016. A small park hidden on the Phayao-Chiang Muan-Nan route.

Nestled amidst lush greenery, Doi Phu Nang National Park offers a refreshing escape with its cool atmosphere. The park provides camping grounds, bungalows, and restaurants for the convenience of visitors. A unique highlight of this park is the presence of numerous peacocks roaming freely within its boundaries.

Another highlight of Doi Phu Nang National Park is Tharn Sawan Waterfall. Even though it is now winter, the waterfall is still full of beauty, waiting for tourists to visit and capture the atmosphere from various angles. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the car park, a distance of about 500 meters.

On the morning of December 25, 2016, I arrived at the Phu Sang District Office in Phayao Province early in the morning to capture the atmosphere of the 5th Phu Sang Mountain Bike Cycling event. Many cyclists from both Phayao Province and neighboring provinces participated in the event.

The mountain bike route in Phusang this time started from the Phusang District Office, passing through Phusang National Park, Phusang Waterfall, and ending at the Thai-Lao border checkpoint at Ban Huak, covering a total distance of approximately 28 kilometers. The route is quite scenic, passing through rubber plantations, villages, and winding along the mountain range of Phusang National Park. Despite the hot weather in the late morning, all the cyclists still had smiles on their faces throughout the ride.

The picturesque and serene Phusang Waterfall continues to attract visitors who seek relaxation amidst its cascading waters. Situated approximately 8 kilometers from the waterfall, the finish line at Ban Houak, a Thai-Laotian border crossing, marks the culmination of the cycling journey. This route also serves as a gateway to Doi Pha Mon and Phu Chi Fa.

Following the conclusion of the 5th Phu Sang Mountain Bike event, I continued my journey to Phu Chi Fa in the Thoeng district of Chiang Rai province. Along the way, I encountered numerous strawberry farms, which have become a significant source of income for local residents during the winter months. The strawberries are offered at reasonable prices and are known for their sweetness and delicious flavor.

Our accommodation for the three nights was located approximately 1 kilometer from Phu Chi Fa. It was a campsite called Phu Chi Fa @ Good View. The highlight of this place that impressed me was the stunning panoramic view that stretched as far as the eye could see. We were also able to witness breathtaking sunsets in the evening.

The next morning, I set off from the campsite around 5 am to reach a new viewpoint for the sea of mist called "Phu Fa Thai". I was accompanied by a local staff member from Phu Chi Fa Resort @Good View, who helped guide me up the mountain.

The route to Phu Fah Thai starts at Rarm Fah Thai village, approximately 500 meters from Phu Chi Fa. This was the old trail used to reach Phu Chi Fa on foot about 20-30 years ago. After driving about 300 meters up the hill towards Rarm Fah Thai village, you will find a large parking lot. From there, the hike to the top is about 700 meters and is not too strenuous.

Upon reaching the summit, a panoramic vista unfolds, offering breathtaking views of the Laotian landscape. A mesmerizing sea of mist blankets the horizon, creating a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. While amenities such as restaurants and restrooms are currently unavailable, the site has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate visitors, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

The next morning, I traveled to Doi Pha Tang in Wiang Kaen District, Chiang Rai Province, which is about 30 kilometers from Phu Chi Fa. The weather was quite cold today. From the bottom, we had to walk to the various viewpoints for about 15 minutes. The highlight of this place is the beautiful sea of mist. It feels like visiting Doi Pha Tang is like visiting Doi Mae Salong, with its similar elements, way of life, and cold-weather agricultural products.

The road from Doi Pha Tang to Phu Chi Fa is dotted with numerous small campsites and resorts, making it an attractive tourist destination, especially during the rainy and winter seasons when mist is abundant.

A new day dawns at Phu Chi Fa. During this festive season, shuttle services are available to transport tourists from various parking areas to the viewpoint. Private vehicles are prohibited. Today, the number of tourists is quite high, with an estimated 500 or more. Despite the crowds and congestion, Phu Chi Fa remains a beautiful and captivating destination.

After soaking in the breathtaking scenery of Phu Chi Fa, I continued my journey to Phu Chi Moon, located approximately 10 kilometers away on the Phu Chi Fa-Doi Pha Tang route.

Phu Chi Moon is a newly opened viewpoint for tourists to admire the sea of mist. It was officially opened on December 4, 2016. To reach the top of Phu Chi Moon, tourists must use a local car rental service for 500 baht per car, which can accommodate up to 5 people. From the bottom, the car will take you along a winding path up to the parking lot at the top, a distance of about 3 kilometers. The road is quite difficult and only four-wheel drive vehicles are allowed. Personal vehicles are not permitted. Upon reaching the parking lot at the top, there are shops and restrooms available. From this point, you need to walk another 150 meters. The walking path is not too difficult.

Upon reaching the viewpoint of Phu Chi Moon, a towering cliff overlooking the Laotian border, a breathtaking panorama of dense, 360-degree fog unfolds before your eyes. The majestic Phu Chi Dao, standing just 1 kilometer away, also graces the vista.

In conclusion, we would like to express our gratitude to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chiang Rai Office, and Nok Air for their support throughout our journey, from the starting point in Phu Sang District, Phayao Province, to the final destination at Doi Pha Tang, Wiang Kaen District, Chiang Rai Province, along the scenic Doi Pha Mon route. Every moment was filled with breathtaking beauty.

Thank you for watching. See you again in the next travelogue. Goodbye.
