Let's go on a road trip to Chiang Rai! This trip took place in December 2016 during the long weekend.
Even with only 3 days, you can still visit Chiang Rai. We went to Rai Cha Ma Ki Rai and drove to several mountains. Check out the review!
Note: All photos were taken with a Canon AE-1 film camera (not all places are pictured because the film ran out before I could finish).

The journey began from Bangkok around 3:30 AM on a Saturday morning.

We drove out of Bangkok, chatting and stopping for snacks along the way. By noon, we had reached Lampang.

On the first day, we slept on Doi Mae Salong. Following Google Maps, we ended up on a shortcut. The road was steep and quite scary. Cars smaller than 1.5 are not recommended to take this route.

While driving, we came across Wat Phra That Santitham. We stopped to pay our respects and admire the beauty of the Phra Maha Chedi Thep Nimit Tham.

After a 20-minute drive up the mountain, you will reach Doi Mae Salong, an area with numerous resorts.

Continuing further, you will encounter a market where you can stroll and purchase souvenirs.

The sun was setting as we arrived at our accommodation, casting a warm glow over the surrounding mountains and tea plantations. The cool evening air was a welcome respite from the day's heat. We spent the night at Maesalong Mountain Home, a charming guesthouse nestled amidst the scenic landscape. The cost of accommodation ranged from 500 to 1,000 baht per night.

Looking down from the accommodation, you will be surrounded by tea plantations like this.

There is a tea shop near the accommodation, but it is currently closed for renovation.

First night's accommodation: Maesalong mountain home (temperature around 8 degrees Celsius at night)
Tent per night: 500 baht, with bathroom and hot water near the camping area.
Note: If you are interested, please call the accommodation for inquiries. The owner is very friendly. Maesalong mountain home: 084-6119508

Wake up and sip a hot cup of coffee.

The accommodation provides complimentary tea, coffee, and hot water. Breakfast can be ordered additionally.

The first tea plantation we visited was "Tea Plantation 101".
It wasn't too crowded, so I recommend stopping by for photos.

Continue driving and you will find a large tea plantation that you should not miss.
Choui Fong Tea Plantation: This is a very large tea plantation.
It is recommended to stop by for food, snacks, and tea drinks that come from their plantation. They are strong and taste good.

After descending from Doi Mae Salong, we continued on to Doi Tung.
Activities at Doi Tung: Duration approximately 2-3 hours.
-Visit the Mae Fah Luang Garden
-Hall of Inspiration
-Doi Tung Royal Villa
-Hill Tribe Market
-Tree Top Walk (150 baht/person) Tickets and time slots can be purchased inside. Highly recommended, it's a lot of fun!

Doi Tung recommends not missing the "Hall of Inspiration," where numerous unseen royal initiatives are compiled.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Mae Fah Luang Garden.

Along the way up to the palace, there are food and drinks for sale all the way. They are delicious and affordable.

After visiting Doi Tung, we drove to Mae Sai for some bargain shopping. However, when we arrived, it was almost 6 pm, and most of the shops on the Burmese side were closed. We only managed to find some Hogarden beer at 35 baht per bottle, and we each ended up carrying 6 bottles.

On the last morning before returning, I stopped by Boon Rawd Farm and Wat Rong Khun to take photos (no photos).

This trip, I would like to give credit to my kind-hearted boyfriend (driver) who volunteered to drive us on this long journey. #applause

Departing Chiang Rai at noon and heading straight back to Bangkok.

I arrived in Bangkok at 1:00 AM. I was exhausted but had a lot of fun.

"See you again, Chiang Rai."
