Sleep is a big deal for this trip. Let's get started. I got a deal from Japan Airlines and booked through Expedia for one night's accommodation. So I chose to stay at APA Nishiki Excellent in the Sakae district. I'll skip the review of this one-night stay for now and come back to it at the end because I booked it again for the last two nights. (Actually, after returning from Takayama, I booked this place until the day I left, but there was a little accident that made me have to move to another place. Haha! Come and see.) For Nagoya, I booked accommodation from Agoda. Takayama, I booked from Booking.com.
My first stop was Takayama, where I chose to stay at the Country Hotel Takayama. This hotel was highly rated by previous guests, including many positive reviews from Thai travelers. Its convenient location directly across from JR Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Terminal, where most intercity buses arrive, made it an ideal choice.
This is a side street alley next to the hotel. If you go to the front of the hotel, there will be stairs to go up. If you enter from the side of the hotel, you can take the elevator to the 2nd floor.
The Nohi bus station is located on the left side of the picture above, directly across the street. It is only about 50 meters away, just a short walk across the road. However, during this time, it was raining heavily, making the 50-meter walk both cold and wet.
Upon arriving at the second floor, you will find the lobby. Check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out time is 10:00 AM. The staff speaks English. There is one internet computer available. The total price for the two nights I booked through Booking.com is 14,800 JPY. Payment can be made at the counter, either in cash or by credit card.
The second floor also has a living room and a laundry room. There is a microwave available for heating food (but please do not eat on the coffee table). There is also a massage chair available for a 100 JPY coin. However, the massage chair control panel is in Japanese, so you will need to experiment.
The path to the room may seem a bit gloomy and oppressive.
The room at the Country Hotel Takayama was small, with a semi-double bed. Two people could barely fit in the bed, especially considering the cold weather. Japanese hotels rarely provide bottled water, as the tap water is safe to drink. However, I prefer to buy snacks, milk, and water at the Family Mart located on the ground floor of the hotel.
An unexpected incident occurred on my last night in Takayama. I usually book hotels through Agoda with a "pay later" option. Two or three days before check-in, Agoda would automatically charge my credit card. This had always been the case, and there were no irregularities. That night, I checked my email and booking confirmation on the Agoda website and was shocked to discover that my room had been canceled. I panicked, wondering why it had been canceled. I then calmed down and carefully read the email from Agoda, which stated that the payment could not be processed. I checked and realized that I had used an old, canceled credit card to make the booking. Of course, the payment could not be processed. I called Agoda's customer service in Thailand, which cost me 2,000 baht for a 25-minute call (80 baht per minute). I later found out that the cost of the call was equivalent to the price of a night's stay at the hotel. I was annoyed with myself for not booking a new hotel beforehand. I am not comfortable booking hotels on my phone, so I had to go down to the lobby at midnight to use the internet computer to find a hotel. I couldn't find the "@" symbol on the Japanese keyboard, so I had to search for a public email address and copy it into my Agoda account. It was a frustrating experience, but looking back, I can laugh at myself.
I finally arrived at the APA Villa Hotel Marunouchi, which costs 2,000 yen per night. However, it is not located in a shopping district. The hotel only has a small restaurant. There is a vending machine area 20 meters from the hotel. On the top floor (14th floor), there is a separate spa for men and women. It is likely that guests are required to be nude in the spa, but I did not personally visit it.
Directions: Take the Marunouchi Subway Line and exit at either Exit 2 or 3. If you exit at Exit 2, you will see a Family Mart convenience store. The water dispenser is located in the alleyway behind the store.
The walkway from the front of the hotel to the lobby. Check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00.
The walkway to the room appears bright, comfortable for the eyes, and clean.
This is the condition of the room at APA Villa hotel Marunouchi. The pillows are the most comfortable. Other places have flat pillows that hurt my neck. The room is very small. It really makes the most of the space. If you take out your suitcase, you won't be able to walk around. Haha.
I came across this car parked in front of the hotel. It was incredibly stylish.
And then came the last hotel, the hotel where the problem was my own fault, haha.
APA Hotel Nagoya - Nishiki: A lengthy yet accurate name.
From the airport, take the Meitetsu train to Kanayama Station (810 JPY). Then, transfer to the subway at Kanayama and get off at Sakae Station Exit 2. The area below Sakae Station is very confusing, even after living here for a week, I still can't remember the layout. It's best to come up to street level and use Google Maps to find your hotel.
This image shows the front of the hotel.
The hotel lobby is spacious. Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM.
The room and hallway were clean and visually appealing. However, the room still uses a key to unlock. You need to turn the key and leave it inserted to open the door, which can be time-consuming.
The room is likely to be more spacious than any other hotel I have stayed in on this trip.
Opening the window, I thought it was the Eiffel Tower. Haha.
The final image is set at night. It's beautiful.
