From Chiang Mai, we will be driving on Route 107 until we reach Kilometer 79. At this junction, we will need to decide whether to turn left onto Route 1178 (Option 1) or continue straight on Route 2 (Option 2). Let's compare the two options:
Option 1 (Route 1178): This route is narrow but not steep. The drive is relatively easy, but there is almost no mobile phone signal along this road. Therefore, it is not advisable to travel on this route at night in case of car breakdowns.
Option 2: This is a frequently used road, but it is quite steep. There are two-wheeled vehicles available for rent, and while driving yourself is possible, extra caution is required.
Regarding accommodation,
🏡 We stayed at the Angkhang Agricultural Station, which was one of the most memorable experiences we had. Here's why:
1. Affordable accommodation.
💸 (Accommodation at Rim Doi House + extra bed for 4900 baht, sleeps 6 people, 817 baht per person)
2. The price of 817 baht per person includes a buffet breakfast and dinner from the Royal Project, which is delicious.
3. The decoration of the place is very beautiful, not like being in Thailand at all. I checked in in the evening and found a fireplace with jazz music playing. It was amazing!
The resort offers a variety of accommodations at different price points. You can check the available options on their website: http://www.angkhangstation.com. To make a reservation, call 053-969-476 to 78 and press 1. This particular house is quite large, but I'm not sure what it's called.
However, this small house is where we stayed, called "Baan Rim Doi" (price + extra bed price 4900 baht, sleeps 6 people, 817 baht per person). It's a small house style in a large forest.
Each house has chairs and a table for outdoor relaxation and fresh air.
The lobby, as mentioned, is adorned with a warm fireplace and accompanied by soothing jazz music, creating a truly delightful ambiance.
This section is adorned with portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the revered father of all Thai people, as a tribute to his immense kindness. Recognizing the widespread poverty and opium cultivation among hill tribes, His Majesty initiated this Royal Project to research and experiment with the cultivation of various temperate crops. The project also aimed to educate local farmers on cultivating these crops as a sustainable source of income.
The dining area is conveniently located near the lobby.
The nights are very cold, so be prepared for the temperature changes. The mornings and nights can be quite different, so pack a variety of clothes.
<3 Just letting you know, out of concern. Wink wink.
After a deep sleep, we woke up before dawn to capture the stars at the scenic viewpoint of Mon Son. We didn't even have time to shower before heading out.
We rode mules side-by-side in the morning light, near the edge of the jungle, on our way to Nolan's strawberry farm.
Upon reaching Nolae, we were greeted by a breathtaking sight of terraced strawberry farms cascading down the mountain slopes, enveloped in a veil of mist and dappled sunlight filtering through the towering trees.

Secretly bought strawberries back with me.
Behind the scenes...
After that, we returned to our accommodation to freshen up and take a walk around the 80th Anniversary Garden. There, we were greeted by a diverse array of flowers, each with its own unique charm. We couldn't help but smile as we admired the beauty of each tree and the captivating presence of birds and butterflies that were equally enchanted by this garden.
We also came here to see the plum garden, with its strangely shaped, large trees.
Today's review has a lot of pictures because each location is very diverse and has a very different charm.
