Hello everyone,
During the recent Songkran festival, from April 15th to 17th, 2017, I visited my friend's hometown in Nakhon Phanom. Many people asked me what I would do there, and if there was anything interesting to see in Nakhon Phanom.
I was heartbroken and wanted to take a break, reconnect with friends, and experience the slow life in a city known as the happiest in Thailand. I was deeply impressed by Nakhon Phanom and fell in love with it so much that I even considered buying a house there (can I become a daughter-in-law of Nakhon Phanom? Haha).
This small, peaceful city with friendly people and a wonderful atmosphere has everything that makes it look good and happy.
Let's see how happy it can be!
Day 1: April 15, 2017
We arrived by minivan from Ubon Ratchathani to Nakhon Phanom. My friend took me to pay respect to "Phra That Phanom", a sacred landmark of the city, located at Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan in That Phanom district, approximately 50 kilometers from Mueang district.
The crowd was massive. I asked my friend if it was always this crowded, and she said yes. People come to pay respects to the Phra That Phanom all the time, but today was especially busy because it was Songkran and there was a ceremony to bathe the Phra That. This ceremony likely only happens during Songkran.
I'm hungry. Let's go find something to eat. My friend took me to eat fish dipping at "Phu Tawan Restaurant". My friend highly recommended it, saying it was delicious and a must-try. The restaurant is located by the Mekong River, on the outer city road towards Tha Uthen district. If you can't find it, you can open Wongnai to check it out. The atmosphere is very good.
The food was delicious and affordable. We ordered a full table of dishes and it only cost a little over a thousand baht.

After a satisfying meal, we headed into town to find accommodation. We stayed at "Baan Rim Khong" for 450 baht per night. It was clean, safe, and conveniently located near the Mekong River.
Bicycles are also available for rent. 20 baht per hour, 50 baht for the whole day. Come and rent tomorrow.
The house by the Mekong River has three floors. The third floor offers the best view.
After packing, the sun is setting and the wind is calm. Let's go out and play Songkran! 555 In Bangkok, there is Khao San Road, and in Nakhon Phanom, there is Khao Pun Road. It is located by the Mekong River. The atmosphere is very good and very fun.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
Day 2: April 16, 2017
Good morning, let's wake up and go cycling around the city to enjoy the view of the Mekong River.
The cycling experience was incredibly relaxing and heartwarming. The constant smiles and greetings from fellow cyclists, even strangers, truly embodied the "Land of Smiles" reputation of Siam. It was a delightful and unforgettable experience.
There is also a bicycle tunnel along the Mekong River, which is super cool.
After a tiring bike ride, we needed to refuel. We went to "Sri Thep Crispy Rice Crackers Shop" for some delicious "pak mor" (crispy rice pancake). It's a small shop, but there was a long queue of customers. Located opposite the Sri Thep Hotel, the "pak mor" costs between 30-50 baht per plate. It was so delicious that we ate until we were full!
After returning the bicycle to the hotel, I took a shower and got dressed to continue exploring other places. This is the "Nakhon Phanom Governor's Residence Museum," which is a former governor's residence that is now a museum. It is located on "Sunthon Vichit Road," a road in Nakhon Phanom city that runs along the Mekong River. It was closed on the day we went, which was a bummer. But it's okay, I was able to take some pictures from outside.
A short distance from the governor's residence, you will find "St. Anne's Church, Nong Saeng," a historic and beautiful Christian church in Nakhon Phanom province.
It was lunchtime, and we were looking for a place to eat. I told my friend that I was craving delicious Vietnamese food, so they took me to "Siem" restaurant for some delicious nem nuong.
I'd like to order a large set of nem nuong. I'm worried I won't be full. 555
To eat nem nuong, simply combine all the ingredients, wrap them up, and enjoy! 555
After a savory meal, I always crave something sweet. So, I went to "Khang Siam" for coffee. This place has everything: savory dishes, desserts, coffee, and even alcohol. The coffee and pastries were delicious, and the air conditioning was so refreshing, it felt like I was in the Arctic. 55555 I'm obsessed with their wifi password. It's so clever! I couldn't help but laugh when I asked for it. The password is "12 123 12 12 1". The owner must have been a cheerleader in their past life. 5555555
This is a highlight that we highly recommend to our friends. It is a boat trip to enjoy the scenery on both sides of the Thai-Lao Mekong River. It is a tourist boat operated by the Nakhon Phanom Municipality. It is open every day, with one round trip at 5:00 PM. The fare is 50 baht, and the boat trip takes about 1 hour. If you want to charter the boat for a party or wedding, you can contact the operator.
"Hello" with a stop to say hi to the neighbors. 555 The city opposite Nakhon Phanom is "Thakek City, Kham Muon District, Lao PDR." This city has many mountains and abundant nature.
It was amazing, but it would be even better in the winter. 555
The pink sky. I love you, "Nakhonphanom".
The Magnificent "Phaya Sri Satta Nakarat"
This is "Phaya Sri Satta Nakarat," a newly constructed landmark and popular tourist destination in Nakhon Phanom Province. Our friends informed us that it was recently built and is incredibly beautiful. Many people come to pay their respects here. After finishing our boat ride, we plan to visit and offer our own prayers.
Let's go and pay respects to the Phraya Si Satta Nakarat.
We continued our journey to the Nakhon Phanom Walking Street. The walking street is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. However, on the day we visited, there were relatively few vendors selling goods. It was likely due to the fact that it was just after the Songkran festival, so there were not many people around.
Note: The original text is empty, so the translation is also empty.
After a long day of exploring, we decided to find a restaurant to relax and enjoy a meal. My friend took me to "De Cafe," located along the Mekong River. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful and serene.
Day 3: April 17, 2017
I have to go home today. Before I leave, I'll stop by and buy some VT spring rolls to take back to my mom (sponsor of all my travels, haha).
Note: Ubon Ratchathani also has its own version of fermented pork sausage, but it differs in taste from the Vietnamese version. While both are delicious, the preference depends on individual taste. Personally, I prefer the dipping sauce from the Vietnamese version, but I enjoy the pork from Ubon Ratchathani more.
Every journey, near or far, always has good stories to tell. We want to inspire everyone to go out and live their lives.
Go out and experience new things, and we will get something called "happiness" back.
"Nakhon Phanom, the city of lovely people, I want my friends to come and experience it, and you will fall in love with it like us."
