Another holiday, another wave of stress washes over my brain. What to stress about this time? Stressing about where to go on a trip, of course! (Time, why are you so serious? 555) This time, it's a tough decision. With only one day off, I can't go far like everyone else. I can only go somewhere nearby. A one-day trip, is it worth it? So, I started searching for a place to go. As I read and read, I stumbled upon a temple in the province of Saraburi. This temple is very interesting, you know. That's right, it's "Wat Phra Phutthachai". What's so interesting about this temple? Let's take a look.
10:00 AM. Embarked on a journey towards the destination (when asked why the late start, the answer is simply: overslept! It's a holiday after all). The trusty motorcycle served as the mode of transportation for this trip. It's worth mentioning that I'm an avid biker, using my bike for every trip. All photos were taken with a mobile phone; don't ask about a proper camera, I can't afford one. The indispensable companion for this journey was the GPS navigation app, a master of shortcuts. It truly guides you off the beaten path, avoiding the usual routes and taking you through unexpected detours, even through people's houses! I initially thought I was lost and had to find my bearings each time. It's truly the spice of travel.
After a 40-minute drive, we arrived at our destination. There are three main ways to explore this area:
Park your car at the bottom, then walk up to the temple to pray, and then walk back down.
2. Drive to the top of the mountain and park, then walk down to the bottom and walk back up to the top again.
3. Drive to the top to pay respects to the Buddha, then drive back down to the bottom to continue paying respects.
Many people are wondering, right? Which option will I choose? Let me tell you that I chose option 2. It's not durable, it doesn't last, and I can't do it. I'm telling you, I almost crawled. It's bad. I even had to sit down and rest for a long time. I'm so tired. I'm drenched in sweat.
Upon reaching the summit of Khao Phra Phutthachai by car, one can walk towards the "Right Footprint of the Buddha" enshrined within the small pavilion atop the mountain. Descending slightly further, one will encounter the ordination hall for paying respects.
After completing the sacred pilgrimage, it's time to immerse ourselves in the breathtaking views surrounding Khao Phra Phutthachai. The panoramic vista encompasses houses and rolling hills, offering a 360-degree perspective. The scenery is truly magnificent, with its captivating beauty leaving a lasting impression.
Let's continue our journey while we still have the energy. After enjoying the scenic views, let's descend the hill. (Don't worry, the path is easy to navigate, both uphill and downhill.) As we make our way down, our tired legs and sweat-drenched bodies encounter a group of our friends: the monkeys, big and small. They look so delicious! (Just kidding!) Each one is adorable and full of mischief.
And then we arrived at the "Buddha's reflection". Let's take a short break. 5555
The "Phra Phutthachai," or the shadow image of the Buddha on the cliff face, resembles a standing Buddha.
Following the Buddha's footprint, a short walk leads to a large reclining Buddha statue for worship. Nearby, the initials of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and several members of the royal family are inscribed, commemorating their visit to Saraburi. After circling the area, it was time to depart.
After paying our respects to the Buddha's footprint, we were surprised to see that the shoes were neatly arranged. Before entering, it was a different story. Looking around, we saw an elderly gentleman sitting there, carefully arranging each pair of shoes. We truly admire him. If you happen to meet him, please greet him.

The arduous climb back up the mountain was a test of both physical and mental endurance. Despite the exhaustion, the summit was finally reached. After a brief respite, the descent began in search of transportation. As hunger pangs set in, a welcome sight emerged: an ice cream vendor amidst the sweltering heat. A refreshing treat was the perfect reward before continuing the journey.
In conclusion, if you are wondering where to spend a day, I highly recommend visiting Wat Phra Phutthachai in Saraburi Province. This stunning temple boasts breathtaking views, rich history, and convenient accessibility. Don't miss out on this incredible experience; you might regret it later. Remember, a visit to Wat Phra Phutthachai is an opportunity you won't want to miss.
Recommendation!!!
- The temple is divided into two sections: the lower area, which houses the Phra Phutthachai, and the upper area on the mountaintop, which houses the Phra Phutthabat. Tourists can either climb the stairs or drive up to the top. It is recommended to research the temple layout beforehand to avoid missing any important landmarks. (I almost missed some myself, but luckily I followed the crowd to see where they were going.)
- The temple grounds, both on the mountaintop and below, are home to a large population of monkeys. It is important to avoid feeding them, and instead, allow them to forage for food in the designated areas provided.
General Information!!!
The Phra Buddhabat Temple is located in Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict, Mueang Saraburi District, Saraburi Province.
