When the rainy season arrives, many people think of humid air and the vibrant green of trees and grass. Pa Bong Piang is one such destination that should be experienced during this time.
"Ban Pa Bong Piang" is a village of the Akha people, located in Mae Chaem district, Chiang Mai province. Surrounded by terraced rice fields and cornfields, it is a favorite spot for photographers who capture the lushness of the rice terraces and the mist.

Travel
Route 1: From Doi Inthanon
Starting from the Doi Inthanon side, drive up the mountain until you reach the national park checkpoint. Turn left at the fork towards Mae Chaem district. Continue for approximately 12 kilometers until you see the sign for Mae Pan Waterfall. Turn right and follow the signs, passing Huay Sai Luang Waterfall, Mae Pan Waterfall, and Pha Samran Waterfall. The road from here becomes very rough and requires a 4WD vehicle, preferably driven by a local. The distance is approximately 8 kilometers and takes about 20 minutes. Be prepared for a bumpy ride through mud and rocks. Once you reach Ban Pa Pong Piang, you can contact Mr. Wichai, the owner of a guesthouse there, at 081-0201691 to arrange transportation back. The cost is 800 baht for groups under 10 people and 1,000 baht for groups of 10 or more. Alternatively, if you are staying at Ban Mae Klang on Doi Inthanon, you can contact Mr. Ban Mae Klang Luang at 085-723-4957 for a pickup truck. The cost is 1500 baht.
Route 2: Starting from the Mae Chaem town center, take the better road. Upon reaching the Mae Chaem District Office, turn right. You will find a 7-Eleven on the right-hand side. Continue straight for approximately 1 kilometer. You will encounter a left turn leading to Wat Phuttha Eoin and the Ban Kong Kian rice terraces. Continue straight ahead, passing Ban Dto Reu. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will reach Ban Thung Yao. Drive straight and look for the Mae Na Chor Kilometer 16 marker. Turn right and you will see Wat Thung Yao. Turn left and drive for approximately 1 kilometer to reach the Mae Ming village. Look for a small sign indicating the direction to Inthanon Wittaya School. Turn right and you will find the Mae Awm Watershed Management Unit. Continue to Ban Pa Teng and turn left onto the asphalt road, which ends here. Drive straight for approximately 1 kilometer and you will find a fork. The left path leads to Ban Tin Pha, while the right path leads to Ban Pa Bong Piang. If you are staying in Mae Chaem District, you can hire a yellow songthaew from the district office to take you up. However, you will only be able to enjoy the scenery in the evening.
