Upon first glance, many people guessed that this image was captured somewhere in the northern region of Thailand. However, even after witnessing it firsthand, I still find it hard to believe that this breathtaking scenery is located in the southern province of Phang Nga. This natural wonder is known as "Khao Khai Nui".
Historical Background
In 1970, Bang Nui invited Bang Khai to work on a garden in the area. They discovered beautiful fog and invited villagers to come and see it. In 2012, a training session was held with students from Chao Khun Thahan Ladkrabang. Bang Khai and Bang Nui invited the students to see the fog, and the students named the place "Khao Khai Nui Sea of Fog." The word "Khao" is more suitable for the northern and northeastern regions, so it was changed to "Khao Khai Nui" from then on.
Departure
Meet at Ban Fai Tha School. The school has collaborated with the accommodation by providing parking for tourists and CCTV for security purposes.
Soon, Uncle Nui picked us up in this car. The exterior looked new, but the interior was a bit old. However, it didn't matter as long as we reached our destination.
The face of Bang Nui, who has a son named Bang Leg, or Bang Leg is the person who coordinates the work.
We don't have to walk up because the car will take us there. That's convenient, isn't it? Not really. The road is very rough with many potholes. It may look smooth in the pictures, but some parts are deeply eroded by water. Cars can't make it. They've tried and failed. Only off-road vehicles can handle this terrain. If you get carsick, take some medication beforehand because the ride is bumpy.
After a 40-minute climb, we reached the sunset viewpoint. The fog was still thick.
Alternatively, you can visit the lower level, which features a spacious courtyard.
The heavy clouds prevented us from fully enjoying the sunset.
This area offers a variety of accommodations, including options owned by local residents such as Bang Khai and Bang Nui, as well as properties owned by investors from outside the province.
Each accommodation has its own restaurant. However, this location is not yet crowded, and there is no staff on duty. Therefore, there is no food available to order. Guests are advised to bring their own food or to inform the accommodation owner in advance if they require food to be prepared.
We were having so much fun grilling that we almost forgot to take pictures! The weather was cool, and the hot barbecue was just perfect.
After finishing our meal, we didn't go to sleep. Instead, we went to the front lawn to lie down and gaze at the stars.
Around 10 pm, the fog started to roll in. The light from the accommodation hit the fog, creating a fan-shaped glow.
We arrived at the accommodation around 11 pm. The uncle woke up just in time. He had been sleeping since 8 pm. He told us that he usually cuts off the power at 8:30 pm (they use a generator here). As soon as we went to bed and started charging our phones, the power went out. No problem, we have a power bank.
We woke up around 6 am. The atmosphere in front of our accommodation was like this. It was amazing.
The interior is simple and uncluttered.
The morning atmosphere offers stunning views from various vantage points. This particular spot provides a panoramic view from above.
This photo was taken from the area around my house in the fog, near the wooden sign for Khao Khainuai.
The mist bathed in sunlight, a sight that never gets old.
After enjoying the mist for about an hour, our stomachs started to rumble. We had brought our own breakfast, which was bread, but the uncle kindly offered us some local snacks as well. He was very kind.
We returned in the late morning.
When it comes to southern mist, Khao Khai Nui is another memorable place for me. It's easily accessible by car. Here are some tips: If you get carsick, take medication beforehand. Bring food to grill with friends. Charge your phone in the evening (as the power is cut off at night). And don't forget to leave your worries behind and enjoy the atmosphere in front of you.
