Krabi D Day Trip: Every Day is Good, Every Day is Great! By Pink Elephant on Tour
The sentence is already in English and does not require translation.
Hello again in the sea trip! This time, Pink Elephant will take you to visit Krabi Sea for the first time. How to get there? Follow Pink Elephant!
First Day
Let's start with the journey. For a comfortable flight, I chose Thai Smile. The service was excellent throughout the trip.
Snacks and drinks are served at every seat.
Lost in the captivating scenery outside the window, I barely noticed the time fly by. In the blink of an eye, we had arrived at our destination.
Disembark from the aircraft, collect your luggage, and proceed to the passenger terminal at Krabi International Airport.
For this trip, Pink Elephant did not rent a car because there was a car pick-up and drop-off service to and from the airport provided by The Pelican Residence & Suites Krabi. We were able to inform the hotel of our arrival and departure times in advance, so they could book a queue for us. This was very convenient and safe, and it made Pink Elephant, who had never been to Krabi before, feel very安心.
Our first stop was the iconic Tiger Cave Temple, a revered landmark in Krabi province. Situated near Krabi Airport, this sacred site is renowned throughout the region and among international visitors.
Tiger Cave Temple: A Place of Meditation and Natural Beauty
The Tiger Cave Temple offers a serene environment for meditation amidst a lush forest landscape. The temple features a series of caves, including the Tham Khonthan, Tham Lod, Tham Chang Kaew, Tham Look Too, Tham Ngu, Tham Tao, and Tham Meu See. The highlight of the temple is the 1,237-step staircase leading to the summit, offering breathtaking 360-degree views. However, due to time constraints, I was unable to ascend the stairs. Instead, I visited the caves and participated in a merit-making ceremony by offering alms to the monks.
After paying respects to the Buddha, I took a walk around the temple grounds. During my visit, the temple was in the process of constructing the world's largest bell tower. It was truly magnificent in its scale. Be sure to check it out if you have the chance.
Beware of the little ones who might snatch food or belongings from your hands.
Reaching the destination will undoubtedly leave your legs trembling and exhausted. If you intend to ascend, it is advisable to arrive early in the morning, as the journey requires considerable time.
Most tourists like to pray to Guanyin.
May I test a short walk?
My legs are already trembling even though I haven't climbed very far. The caves here require a lot of climbing up and down. If you have the strength to walk, I recommend doing so.
Let's move on to the next scene.
Without further ado, before the light of today fades, let's move on to the "Black Crab Square", a popular landmark where everyone must check in on social media.
The Black Crab Monument, officially known as the Black Crab Memorial, is located at Khlong Khanap Nam Pier. It offers the best panoramic view of Krabi town, showcasing the iconic Khao Khanap Nam, the twin limestone mountains flanking the Krabi River, which serve as the province's symbol.
After taking photos and checking in to get more likes, it's time for dinner. This meal is included in the hotel package, but the hotel will only take you to the restaurant and pick you up later. The cost of the meal at Chang Chomphu is your responsibility. This restaurant is very famous and popular. Some days, if you don't book in advance, you have to wait in line or there may not be any of the famous dishes left. The name of this restaurant is "Ruen Mai". Chang Chomphu loves the atmosphere and decoration very much because it uses natural materials to create a wooden house, just like the name of the restaurant. The atmosphere is shady and full of trees, rice fields, ponds, and decorations made from natural materials. Ruen Mai Restaurant is open at specific times. The first period is from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and the second period is from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A hundred percent green space, truly pleasing to the eye and mind.
The bathroom is beautifully decorated, maintaining the wooden house style.
The pink elephant ordered the restaurant's signature dish, crab meat curry with betel leaves, which costs 350 baht per plate. This dish is a must-try at Ruen Mai because the crab meat is so abundant that it's almost hidden by the betel leaves.
Stir-fried Parkia speciosa with shrimp, priced at 250 baht per plate. This dish is a particular favorite of Chang Chompoo, who recently tried Parkia speciosa for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by its deliciousness. The flavors were so appealing that she wanted to order several more plates.
Another popular menu item is the shrimp paste chili dip, priced at 150 baht per set. This southern Thai staple is a must-try when visiting this restaurant. It is served with fresh vegetables as a side dish.
Spicy Food Antidote: Stir-Fried Jute Leaves with Egg and Stir-Fried Wild Spinach
This sentence describes two dishes that can be used to counteract spicy food: stir-fried jute leaves with egg and stir-fried wild spinach. Both dishes are priced at 150 baht per serving.
Here is a more detailed breakdown of the translation:
- และเมนูแก้เผ็ด: This translates to "and a menu to counteract spicy food."
- ผัดผักเหมียงใส่ไข่: This translates to "stir-fried jute leaves with egg." Jute leaves are a type of leafy green vegetable commonly found in Southeast Asia.
- และ ผัดผักกูด: This translates to "and stir-fried wild spinach." Wild spinach is another type of leafy green vegetable that is also common in Southeast Asia.
- เมนูจานละ 150 บาท ค่ะ: This translates to "both dishes are priced at 150 baht per serving."
After a savory meal, let's move on to sweet treats and a chic atmosphere. This restaurant, called Hub Coffee, is designed in the style of a Thai mountain. In the back of the restaurant, you can relax and enjoy tea, coffee, cake, take photos, or simply slow down. However, please note that the cost of drinks and snacks is not included in the trip price and must be paid for separately.
After finishing our meal, it was time to head to the hotel that Changchompoo had booked for us. The hotel, The Pelican Resident & Suites Krabi, had a beautiful ocean view.
Upon arrival at the hotel, I checked in and proceeded to my room. The lobby was spacious and airy, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was exceptionally friendly and greeted me with smiles each time we crossed paths.
The poolside atmosphere at night is truly romantic.
Globe Restaurant
This area serves as the breakfast spot and restaurant space for the hotel.
We've arrived at our room and we're surprised! There's a pair of elephants on the bed, as if they knew Pink Elephant was coming to stay. Hmm... is this a coincidence or intentional? ^^
The bed is very wide and soft. The room is well-divided. The living room and kitchen are separated by a partition. The bedroom has a separate bathroom and wardrobe, which is very convenient.
Day Two: Island Hopping in Krabi
The second day of our trip was dedicated to a one-day island hopping tour in Krabi. Visiting the islands is a must-do for anyone exploring the stunning coastline of Krabi. Our main destination was the iconic Talay Waek, a sandbar that emerges during low tide, offering a breathtaking spectacle and a popular check-in spot for tourists. This natural wonder is considered an Unseen Thailand gem, showcasing the hidden beauty of Krabi province.
Before heading out, prepare your equipment for playing in the water, including a waterproof camera, a waterproof bag, and most importantly, a swimsuit. Today, a car will pick you up at the hotel at 8:30 AM. Before leaving, have breakfast at the Globe Restaurant. Follow the pink elephant on a food tour and see what's on the menu.
There are also snacks for children.
After having lunch, while waiting for the car to pick her up, Pink Elephant went for a walk to take pictures and admire the overall atmosphere of the hotel. The air here is fresh and invigorating, as it is close to both the sea and the mountains. The hotel also boasts a large swimming pool surrounded by trees, creating a relaxing and inviting ambiance, perfect for a peaceful getaway.
The hotel offers a variety of amenities for guests, including a reading room, computers, a children's play area, and a fitness center, all conveniently located near the dining area.
The car has arrived to take us to the pier. Upon arrival, we will sign to receive wristbands. This trip includes insurance. The boat that will take us to Koh Chang is a Nang Aen speedboat. We chose this option because we wanted to try it and save time for sightseeing. Today's 4-island tour program includes Phra Nang Cave Beach, Koh Kai, Koh Thap (Talay Waek), and Koh Poda. These islands are highlights of Krabi's marine tourism destinations.
The first destination is Phra Nang Beach, where a rock formation resembling a turtle statue can be seen from afar. Walking to the end of the beach leads to Phra Nang Cave, a sacred site revered by local sailors. The unique perspective from inside the cave reveals the cave opening with beautiful stalactites hanging down like a curtain. Most tourists come here to make wishes, and if their wishes are granted, they return to offer wooden carvings or phallus-shaped amulets. There are also shrines dedicated to the spirits of a grandfather and grandmother.
The water here is very clear and perfect for swimming. The waves are also not too strong.
The temple is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures, showcasing a diverse range of sizes and colors.
The shrine of the grandparents is located near the shrine of the goddess.
In addition to the beach at Phra Nang Cave, there are also activities for rock climbing.
Alternatively, you can also go kayaking.
We continued our journey by boat to Chicken Island. However, due to the high number of tourists at Chicken Island, our guide took us to a nearby snorkeling spot. The water here was crystal clear and teeming with fish.
It's like a painting, so beautiful.
The third island, the highlight of the trip, is the Talay Waek (Separated Sea). The water is crystal clear, and the sand is incredibly white. Talay Waek is known as an Unseen Thailand destination, famous worldwide for its natural wonder. During low tide, the receding water carries sand, creating a land bridge connecting the three islands: Ko Kai, Ko Mo, and Ko Tap. This sandbar gradually disappears beneath the water as the tide rises each day.
The Final Island: Koh Poda
Our final stop was Koh Poda, a spacious island with a stunning white sand beach and crystal-clear water, despite its proximity to the mainland. Tourists frequently visit this island to relax, stroll along the beach, and swim in the refreshing waters. Although privately owned, Koh Poda is remarkably welcoming and does not charge an entrance fee.
Beyond its recreational appeal, Koh Poda serves as the designated lunch spot for tour groups. However, the meals provided are not freshly cooked but rather pre-prepared by the tour operator. The menu typically consists of around three dishes with mild flavors to cater to international tourists.
After a delicious meal, we went swimming. The guide gave us time to swim until it was time to return to the shore. A car took us back to the hotel as before. Upon arriving at the hotel before taking a shower, Pinky the elephant washed herself and continued to play in the pool. Since she was already in her swimsuit, she decided to play until she was completely soaked.
After taking a refreshing shower, Pinky the elephant went for a leisurely stroll on the beach in front of the hotel during the early evening hours. This area boasts charmingly decorated beachfront restaurants, and the crowds are relatively sparse. Pinky enjoyed walking and sitting, listening to the gentle music and the soft sound of the waves, finding it both relaxing and enjoyable.
Day Three: A Delightful One-Day Trip
The third day was a highlight of the trip, offering a delightful one-day excursion organized by the hotel. This day was filled with both sightseeing and delicious food, making it a truly enjoyable experience. Let's delve into the exciting activities that filled this memorable day.
This morning, I had to wake up early and prepare everything, including essentials like clothes for playing in the water, a towel, a camera, and a waterproof bag. Before going down to breakfast, I asked the staff for permission to go up to the best room at The Pelican Resident & Suites Krabi. It was a Pool Ocean View room because I wanted to see the beautiful view in case I get the chance to stay in this corner room next time. I could see the sea view with a private swimming pool. This room is suitable for large families or groups of friends because it is a large room with two bedrooms. Unfortunately, I couldn't book this room this time. It's a shame! Look at the view and the atmosphere. It's a big miss.
The first bedroom is incredibly spacious, offering stunning views of the ocean and the swimming pool. Wow! It's truly breathtaking.
The second room has a king-size bed, but it does not have a sea view. However, it offers a view of the hotel's pool and garden.
The living room is spacious and well-lit, featuring a sofa, TV, and dining table. It also includes a fully equipped kitchen, making it ideal for those who prefer to cook their own meals. The kitchen is separated from the living area for added convenience.
After being satisfied with the room, I went down to have breakfast at the Globe Restaurant, which is the name of the hotel's restaurant.
The journey will take some time due to the long distances between each location, so we need to move quickly. After breakfast, the hotel car will pick us up at 8:30 AM.
The First Stop: Wat Maha That Wachiramongkol (Wat Bang Thong)
The first stop on the hotel's itinerary is a visit to Wat Maha That Wachiramongkol, also known as Wat Bang Thong. This newly built temple boasts stunning architecture and is considered one of the most magnificent in the region. Located in Na Nua sub-district, Ao Luek district, Krabi province, the temple was constructed to commemorate His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, the 10th King of Thailand. The grand stupa, standing tall at 45 meters, is a sight to behold.
The architecture of this grand stupa bears a striking resemblance to that of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India. The similar shapes and intricate designs evoke a sense of awe and reflect the true origins of Buddhism. As I walked around, I was filled with a sense of excitement and wonder.
Visitors can pay their respects and make offerings to the large statue of Luang Pu Thuat, located next to the Great Stupa.
Before leaving, don't forget to pay respects and ask for blessings from the statue of King Taksin the Great.
After a tiring, hot, and sweaty walk, you can rest at the 5.00 Coffee shop. Enjoy a refreshing coffee or cold drink to quench your thirst. This cafe is conveniently located at the temple entrance, making it a perfect spot to take a break.
After exploring the Mahathat Chedi, it's time to head to the fishing village, also known as the Chum Lae Market, in Ban Bang Phat. Located in Bang Tae District, Phang Nga Province, this market is a hidden gem. If you're staying at The Pelican Krabi Hotel, they offer a special trip to this amazing place. You'll get to experience new sights, delicious food, and excellent service. The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Let's explore the captivating attractions of this community.
Bang Phatthan is a quaint village offering a diverse range of experiences. From authentic OTOP products to the renowned Poo Bank, and delectable seafood restaurants, the village provides a delightful blend of cultural immersion and culinary indulgence. The breathtaking ocean views further enhance the dining experience, creating a truly memorable and immersive atmosphere.
A Seafaring Village: Bang Phat Community
Nestled on a peninsula jutting into the sea, Bang Phat is a quaint village connected to the mainland by a long bridge. This age-old fishing community has transformed into a hub for eco-tourism and education, exemplified by the unique "Crab Bank."
Unlike conventional banks, the Crab Bank operates on goodwill rather than monetary deposits. Its aim is to ensure a sustainable future for local fishermen by fostering a "crab interest." The initiative arose from the dwindling crab population, prompting the villagers to devise a solution rooted in their traditional wisdom.
The Crab Bank embodies the collaborative spirit of Bang Phat. When fishermen catch egg-bearing crabs, they donate them to the bank's holding pens. Here, the crabs can safely lay and hatch their eggs, ensuring future generations. After 15-20 days, once the crabs have released their eggs, they are sold, and the proceeds are used for community development.
Established in 2008, the Crab Bank has garnered national recognition as a model community, demonstrating sustainable marine resource management. The predominantly Thai-Muslim community of Bang Phat, with a population of just 76 households, exemplifies how collective action and respect for the environment can pave the way for a thriving future.
Bang Phat Village is a conservation-oriented fishing village located by the sea. It boasts a nearly 100% intact mangrove forest.
The village offers homestays and various activities for tourists, such as visiting Khao Tapu, Tham Lod Cave, enjoying the sunset, canoeing, and learning about the community's way of life. The villagers are all Muslims, and the community life is simple and friendly. There is also a community mosque.
Here, you can witness the local villagers' way of life as they go out to catch fish, shrimp, and shellfish using small boats. The seafood is caught fresh from the sea and includes delicacies such as mantis shrimp, sea bass fried in fish sauce, garlic-fried mantis shrimp, blood cockles, and large horse crabs. This experience is sure to impress both Thai and international tourists. If you're looking for souvenirs, there's a wide selection available, including sun-dried salted fish, sun-dried fish, squid, skewered shrimp, and shrimp paste, all made by the local community. These products are delicious, free of harmful chemicals, and reasonably priced. By purchasing these items, you'll be supporting the community and contributing to their income.
Let's take a look at the fresh seafood dishes that Chang Chompoo ordered. Each dish looks incredibly delicious, although the presentation may be considered simple and not as aesthetically pleasing as those found in upscale seafood restaurants.
Fresh oysters
Sea bass fried with fish sauce
Large mantis shrimp, firm flesh, garlic fried
After enjoying a delicious meal and soaking in the atmosphere, we wasted no time in embarking on our final exciting activity: kayaking at Khlong Nam Sai, also known as Khlong Roop.
For this paddling trip, the pink elephant asked the guide to paddle for her, as there were quite a few tree stumps and rocks. She was worried that she wouldn't be able to paddle through them. However, if you want to paddle yourself, there are white balls placed along the way to guide you. The rocks and tree stumps are part of the charm of this activity, as they make the water look very beautiful. This is because the area was once planned to be a dam, so the water was released into the forest, causing some of the trees to die. However, some of the trees are still alive.
The underwater environment is characterized by dense algae and aquatic moss, supporting a diverse population of fish, ranging from small to large species.
Dead tree stumps and rocky outcrops are adorned with beautiful wild orchids throughout the trail.
The deeper you paddle, the narrower the path becomes, winding through lush greenery and abundant vegetation.
A boat stop for swimming, the water is clear and very cold, so you can see the bottom.
The boat drifted along until it reached the source of the water, a spring that bubbled up constantly. What was even more exciting was the sight of groups of air bubbles, indicating the presence of boiling sand or sand springs. As the bubbles hit the sunlight, they reflected off the surface of the water, creating a beautiful shimmering effect. The pink elephant watched for a long time, particularly fascinated as it had never seen anything like it before.
The Guide's Insights into the Eye of the Water
The guide revealed that the Eye of the Water possesses significant depth, hinting at the presence of a small cave beneath its surface. However, no one has dared to venture into the cave, with explorations limited to the cave's entrance. Currently, swimming in this area is prohibited. Designated swimming areas are available for tourists near the entrance, before reaching the Eye of the Water.
Tiger-striped fish swam everywhere.
The moment the pink elephant had been waiting for finally arrived. It was time to play in the water. Without hesitation, the elephant jumped in. The water was crystal clear and refreshingly cool. The guide informed them that this place was called the "Crystal Clear Canal," and the name was well-deserved. The water was truly emerald green, and the experience was so enjoyable that the elephant didn't want to leave.
After playing in the water for a while, it was time to return to the hotel. The hotel staff drove us back to the hotel safely. However, due to the energy spent playing in the water, Pink Elephant started to feel hungry. Feeling lazy and not wanting to go out for food, and not wanting to walk to the Globe Restaurant, I ordered food and had the staff serve it in the room (convenience level 10). After taking a shower, the staff brought the food. All the dishes were beautifully decorated and the food tasted good. The dishes I ordered were pineapple fried rice, which is the signature dish here and the most ordered by guests. The other dishes were green curry chicken, stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts, spaghetti with bacon and dried chili, and the drinks were coconut shake and refreshing fruit smoothie.
The One Day Trip organized by Chang Chompoo, a special trip from The Pelican Resident & Suites Krabi, has come to an end.
