Koh Tao: A Long-Awaited Escape
Koh Tao, a name that has resonated in my ears for years, finally became a reality. The distance between my home and the island, spanning across different regions of Thailand, had always been a deterrent. A trip to Koh Tao necessitates a significant time commitment, both for travel and exploration.
Finally, an opportunity arose, and I embarked on a journey. Departing from Bangkok in the late afternoon, I made a stopover in Hua Hin for a night before continuing to the pier for the ferry to Koh Tao. My island adventure unfolded over three days and two nights. (Prior to this trip, I had the pleasure of exploring the city of Chumphon. You can read about that experience here: https://th.readme.me/p/9544)
This time, we met our friends at Don Mueang Airport, but we didn't travel by plane. We had to fly to Bangkok first and then continue by car to Chumphon. On the way, we stopped overnight in Hua Hin.
After staying in Hua Hin, we traveled to the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Pier in Chumphon Province. It took about 4 hours to get there. We chose to take the ferry to Koh Tao at 13:00. The ticket price was 600 baht per person/trip. The journey was comfortable, the passenger cabin was spacious and clean, and it was a very convenient way to travel.
It took approximately 1.45 hours to reach Koh Tao safely. Therefore, there must be something interesting to see and do.
Upon arrival at the pier, resort staff will be waiting with signs to greet tourists. For our group of three, we had booked accommodation at Seashell Resort Koh Tao, located on Sairee Beach. This beach offers a variety of shops, bars, and cafes, making it an ideal location for our stay. The resort boasts a swimming pool and a beachfront restaurant, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing sunset dinner. The prospect of dining by the sea as the sun dips below the horizon is truly exhilarating.
After settling into our room, we immediately embarked on our exploration of Koh Tao. Our first stop was the beachfront restaurant "Lotus Bar." We arrived around 4 pm, and the restaurant offered a wide variety of dishes. However, the real highlight is in the evening when the bar comes alive with fire shows and beach parties. It's definitely a place we'll be revisiting.
The photo captures the exterior of Lotus Bar. The sky is overcast following a recent rainfall, casting a somber tone. However, the vibrant colors of the boats anchored near the beach provide a cheerful contrast, dispelling any feelings of sadness.
After a quick bite, we headed back to our rooms to freshen up and get ready for the party on Koh Tao. We quickly returned to the "Lotus Bar" to soak in the nightlife atmosphere. Let's get this party started!
We haven't had a drink yet. I just saw the atmosphere of the shop next door was so chill, so I wanted to go in and experience it for a bit. As for this shop, I'll come back again later tonight.
Let's move on to the next bar, Lotus Bar. Let the pictures speak for themselves and describe the atmosphere of the bar.
As usual, no one knows how or when he returned to his room. When he woke up, it was morning, and it was time to continue the journey.
Before embarking on your journey, be sure to enjoy a hearty breakfast while taking in the fresh ocean air. This will surely set the tone for a wonderful day. Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll along the beach, capturing the beauty of the moment with your camera. Embrace the joy of being by the sea, a rare treat that brings immense happiness.
We rented a motorbike from a local shop for 200 baht per day. There was a deposit required, but that's standard practice. As long as we took good care of the bike and drove safely, there wouldn't be any problems.
As usual, we did some research and followed the recommendations of previous tourists. This time, we decided to drive up to Mango View for a stunning view of Koh Tao. The road was a bit rough, but it was manageable, and there were signs all the way. I highly recommend this spot.

For Mango View, we give it a full score of one million points. If you sleep on top, you can bring a tent to sleep in. But for us, we have limitations to go to other places, so we can only stay for a few hours. Next time we have the chance, we will ask to stay here for a full day. See you again, Mango View.
The next place is also based on word of mouth, which is "Freedom Beach". It is a private beach with an entrance fee. I don't remember the price, but it should be around 40 or 50 baht. It's worth it, come on! I'll confirm it again. The beach area is covered with off-white sand, not very white, but with azure sea water, beautiful tree branches, and rocks of various shapes. Oh!! I've described too much. You have to see it for yourself. Come on, Freedom Beach.
Oh, I forgot to drink coffee today. On my way back, I decided to stop by a 7-Eleven near Cholok. I glanced to the left and saw a cozy-looking coffee shop, so I decided to stop there. "South Beach Cafe-Pizzas-Burgers" has a promotion where you can order coffee with cake at a special price. I forgot the price, but that's okay. Anyway, this shop is great. It has a cool and chic atmosphere. There are many corners for taking pictures. If you like to drink coffee and take pictures, I recommend this place.
After finishing our coffee, we continued taking photos at the same spot, the beach in front of our hotel. It was super cool. The boats were still in the background for this photo shoot. Let's go!
Let's call it a night and head to the shower. Tonight promises to be another wild one. We'll be partying for one more night, as it coincides with the Koh Tao Pub Crawl. This event involves a group of tourists, mostly foreigners, who gather to bar hop across Koh Tao. They spend about an hour at each venue before walking to the next one. (For more details, check out Koh Tao Pub Crawl). We decided to join them, and it was a blast. The atmosphere was friendly and fun.
Another night passed, and I returned to my room. I don't remember what time it was or how I got there, but I do remember feeling a little silly. Two nights of partying on Koh Tao were a lot of fun.
After resting, I had to wake up early to pack my things, return the rental car, and travel back to Chumphon town. On the way, I stopped to take some pictures of the buildings and houses. There was even a corner with a three-eyed doll. Here it is: 555+
Before leaving, I fueled up with a seaside breakfast. This atmosphere is so captivating that I promise to return again.
And finally, it's time to say goodbye to Koh Tao. The past 3 days and 2 nights have been amazing, but there's still so much to see and do. I need to come back and explore all the tourist attractions and go diving. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a complete trip to Koh Tao.
