Songshan Ciyou Temple: A Place of Reverence for the Sea Goddess

The Songshan Ciyou Temple is dedicated to a revered sea deity well-known to the Thai people: the Goddess of the Sea, also known as Mazu in Taiwan and China. This deity is a protector of fishermen and sailors, offering blessings for safe voyages and protection from the perils of the sea.

Offerings are available for purchase within the temple.

Songshan Ciyou Temple was built in 1753. According to legend, a monk brought a black and gold-plated statue of the goddess Mazu to the Songshan area. He collected money from devout locals to build the temple and enshrined the Mazu statue there in 1757.

This temple is not only a spiritual center for Taiwanese people, but also a popular spot for tourists to pray for safe travels. Moreover, its proximity to the Raohe Night Market and Rainbow Bridge allows visitors to experience three different atmospheres in one location.

Getting there is easy. Take the Green Line MRT to Songshan Station (G19) and exit through Exit 3. You will find the majestic Songshan Ciyou Temple standing tall amidst the darkness. (It is recommended to visit at night to enjoy the Raohe Night Market and Rainbow Bridge.)
