Many of you may have thought that having a meal in a 5-star hotel would be very expensive. However, Khata Keab will take you to try a lunch buffet for only 500 baht at a 5-star hotel.

This afternoon, I had lunch at the Eastin Grand Sathorn Hotel. It is conveniently located near the BTS SkyTrain station, Surasak Station. There is a skywalk connecting the station directly to the hotel.

I took the elevator to the 5th floor, where the restaurant "The Glass House" is located.

The International Lunch Buffet costs around 1,000 baht, but I bought a voucher (from a travel event) so it was only around 500 baht. This price includes plain water, herbal water, tea, and coffee.

If you use a voucher or purchase a deal, you must book at least one day in advance. The restaurant is always crowded, and almost all tables are full. However, if you get a special price, it's worth trying.

There are currently deals available. If you are interested, please search online.

Service Hours: Monday - Saturday 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM.

The restaurant offers a diverse selection of cuisines, including Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Western, and seafood. There is also a pasta station where you can choose your own noodles, sauce, and toppings. The chefs will prepare your pasta dish fresh to order.

This linguine dish features a vibrant green color thanks to the addition of mixed vegetables. It is stir-fried with shrimp, garlic, and dried chili peppers, resulting in a bold and spicy flavor. The shrimp are perfectly cooked, offering a satisfyingly bouncy texture.

The restaurant offers a variety of pasta dishes, including carbonara, bolognese, pesto, and tomato sauce. We ordered the black pasta with dried chili, scallops, and bacon; the linguine with shrimp, garlic, and dried chili; and the penne carbonara. The chef prepares the pasta dishes fresh to order. The black pasta was very salty, but the carbonara was delicious with its creamy sauce.

Next to the line pasta, there was roasted pork loin stuffed with spinach, which looked delicious, so I asked them to cut me two pieces. This one was not very good. The meat was bland and tasteless, and it was also dry and not as tender as it should have been.

The Japanese Food Zone

This zone consistently boasts long queues, offering a variety of raw fish options including salmon, tuna, mackerel, sea bass, crab sticks, seaweed salad, and various rice balls. While the salmon stands out as the best in the lineup, boasting a sweet and fresh flavor despite its less-than-impressive marbling, the other offerings are relatively average. Additionally, the fried food zone includes shrimp and vegetable tempura.

The seafood platter features medium-sized boiled shrimp and New Zealand mussels (which are truly large). I must say, the seafood dipping sauce here is incredibly delicious, with a perfect balance of sour, spicy, and tangy flavors.

Dim sum zone offers steamed pork dumplings and steamed buns. The dumplings have a higher ratio of dough to meat, while the steamed buns are decent.

The hot food zone offers approximately 10 dishes, with the menu rotating regularly. It includes both plain and fried rice. Our favorites were the chicken massaman curry (the sauce was rich and flavorful) and the stir-fried rice vermicelli with roasted pork.

The Thai food line offers a variety of salads, dips with boiled vegetables, and dishes with moderate spiciness. While not overly spicy, the flavors are authentic and cater to local tastes rather than being toned down for international palates. The salad bar boasts a wide selection of fresh vegetables.

The dessert line at the restaurant was impressive, offering a wide variety of cakes, including cheesecakes, custard puddings, pies, and mousses. Cookies were also available. While the cakes were visually appealing, the taste was average. The chocolate cake stood out as the most flavorful, with a rich and intense chocolate taste.

Another delicious option is the red velvet cake, featuring moist cocoa sponge and tangy, creamy cheese frosting - a perfect pairing.

A selection of bite-sized Thai desserts, beautifully arranged and ready to be enjoyed.

The mousse served in shot glasses comes in a variety of flavors. The berry-flavored mousse is pleasantly tart and delicious.

The ice cream selection included vanilla and chocolate, while the sorbets offered passion fruit, lychee, and coconut. We opted for the chocolate and vanilla flavors, which were slightly chewy and intensely flavorful.

A variety of toppings, including Oreos, marshmallows, chocolate chips, almonds, chocolate sauce, and strawberry sauce.

Drinks:

  • Water: Served at your table by staff.
  • Herbal tea: Featuring lemongrass and chrysanthemum. Self-service.
  • Hot tea and coffee: Including cappuccino, latte, and espresso. Order with staff.

Overall, the ingredients used are of good quality. Although some dishes may not be to everyone's taste, this is to be expected as individual preferences vary. However, if you are looking to sample a wide variety of cuisines in one meal, the 500 baht price point is reasonable. The restaurant offers a diverse selection, including Thai, Chinese, Western, Japanese, seafood, desserts, and beverages, albeit in limited quantities for each category. The service is exceptional, deserving a 5-star rating.
