Laem Phak Bia, a name many may have heard, is located near the coast of Ban Laem District, Phetchaburi. It's just a short drive from Bangkok, making it one of my favorite destinations. In the past four or five years, I've felt restless if I haven't visited at least once a year. It's a place for birdwatching, photography, and soaking in the simple atmosphere. Every visit brings me joy.

During this time, many people are interested in traveling to projects under the Royal Initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Laem Phak Bia is another place I recommend checking out.

The Laem Phak Bia Environmental Research and Development Project, initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, aims to research and develop natural wastewater treatment methods and address environmental issues in the area. The project's findings will be applied to other locations in the future. Laem Phak Bia features large ponds, treatment ponds, and mangrove forests, which act as natural wastewater treatment systems.

From its initial purpose of solving problems for the community, Laem Phak Bia has evolved into a popular tourist destination, offering both knowledge and natural beauty. It's a place rich in value in various aspects.

Traveling by private car is recommended as there is no public transportation available. From Phetchaburi city, drive along the Chao Samran Beach route. At the Chao Samran Beach intersection, turn left towards the Ban Laem District sign. Laem Phak Bia is just a short distance away. If coming from Bangkok, take Rama II Road and turn onto the Khlong Kon-Cha-am coastal road. Follow the signs for Cha-am Beach, and you'll pass Laem Phak Bia.

Open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, admission is free. Let's see what awaits us at Laem Phak Bia.

Pursue knowledge.

The primary objective of the Royal Initiative Projects and the Projects Initiated by His Majesty the King is to research and address various issues affecting the people. This specific project encompasses two main areas: a treatment pond and a mangrove forest. Upon arrival, visitors can take a tram tour of the site while listening to presentations on the project's origins, accomplishments, and various research methods. The tour provides a wealth of knowledge and insights.

Visiting the Mangrove Forest

Located near the coast of Ban Laem, Laem Phak Bia boasts a well-preserved mangrove forest. This forest serves as a vital nursery for marine life in Phetchaburi.

Stroll along the long wooden bridge.

A nearly one-kilometer-long wooden bridge stretches through the mangrove forest. The path is beautifully shaded, and if you pay close attention, you'll notice that the vegetation changes as you approach the sea.

Go birdwatching

The presence of mangrove forests and large ponds makes this area a feeding ground for a variety of bird species, making it one of the most important birdwatching sites in the country. Both resident and migratory birds can be found here. Birdwatching is possible all year round, but the best time is during the peak migratory season, from November to March.

Go see the crabs.

Where there are mangrove forests, there are crabs. At Laem Phak Bia, there are many mangrove crabs, including black crabs and fiddler crabs with large claws in various colors, such as red and blue.

Go see the fish (walking)

While crabs are abundant, the fish in question are mudskippers, which forage in mangrove forests. These remarkable fish can walk, and you can observe them here.

Enjoy the Sea View

The end of the mangrove nature trail is a wooden bridge that stretches out to the Gulf of Thailand. Stand and enjoy the breeze and the view. It's truly amazing! If you look to the right, you will see the first sandy beach on the southern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, called Laem Luang. Why is this the first sandy beach here? I won't spoil the answer, but I encourage you to find out for yourself.

Go cycling

The project currently does not allow private vehicles inside. However, this is not a problem because if you don't take their tour bus, there are bicycles available for rent for only 20 baht. This allows you to gain knowledge, capture beautiful pictures, and exercise at the same time.

Embrace happiness.

A place for families, friends, and couples, or even solo adventurers, this wonderful destination guarantees happiness and smiles every time you visit.

Inspire and Be Inspired

Inspiration can be passed on from one person to another. The initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, who saw the suffering of the people, led to the Laem Phak Bia project. I believe that anyone who visits here and absorbs the essence of Laem Phak Bia will surely be filled with good inspiration.
