Lava Shabu: A Spicy Delight with a Cheesy Twist
This past September marked the second anniversary of Lava Shabu, a restaurant specializing in a unique and flavorful hotpot experience. While a "4 for 3" promotion graced the menu last month, our October visit unfortunately missed out on this enticing offer.
The name "Lava Shabu" piqued our curiosity, prompting us to inquire about its origin. The friendly staff revealed that the owner's deep passion for shabu-shabu, particularly the fiery tom yum broth, inspired the name. This signature broth, represented by the restaurant's logo, evokes the image of lava erupting from a hotpot, symbolizing the vibrant red and orange hues of the tom yum soup.
Interestingly, many customers perceive the logo as a depiction of melted cheese, a humorous misinterpretation that we share. This playful association adds a lighthearted touch to the dining experience.
Don't wait any longer, let's go see what this small Lava Shabu restaurant has to offer!
The restaurant's facade is unassuming, and passersby might miss it if they don't pay close attention. Located in Sukhumvit 101/1, near Soi Wachiradham 36, it sits opposite the entrance of Soi Wachiradham 31.
This is a popular restaurant on Wongnai.
The shop is open every day, including holidays. The prices are clear and affordable.
Upon entering the restaurant, you will be greeted by a welcoming sight of tables equipped with electric grills, neatly arranged throughout the space. A bar brimming with fresh vegetables and side dishes awaits nearby, inviting you to replenish your plate as needed. Feel free to take your time and savor the experience; there's no need to rush your order. Remember, mindful consumption is encouraged, and any leftover food will result in a small adjustment to your bill.
The selection of vegetables is adequate, though not as extensive as larger establishments. However, it is sufficient for a small shabu-shabu restaurant. We are particularly fond of the wakame seaweed. Additionally, the inclusion of instant noodles and glass noodles is a welcome addition.
This establishment offers three distinct dipping sauces, accompanied by a selection of chili peppers, garlic, spring onions, and lime juice for customization. In addition to the diverse vegetable options, mushroom enthusiasts can indulge in a choice of four different varieties.

The vegetables are visually appealing, with vibrant colors and exceptional freshness.
The beverage bar offers a selection of drinks, including plain water, Chinese tea, chrysanthemum tea, and Pepsi. The price includes these beverages.
Alcoholic beverages are also available for an additional charge.
Desserts, such as shaved ice and sweet soup, are included in the price per person. These include bread, longan, candied pumpkin, coconut jelly, and grass jelly, topped with milk or red syrup.
The restaurant offers a wide variety of menu options to cater to different dietary preferences, including pork, beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Customers can choose their desired vegetables and have them cooked to their liking. After selecting their vegetables, they can order from the menu and enjoy a refreshing drink while waiting for their food.
The restaurant has two floors. Customers can choose to sit on the second floor, which has a vegetable bar, a water bar, and air conditioning.
I'll go grab some vegetables from the bar and wait for you there. Hehe.
Wow, fresh vegetables! We really like wakame and emperor's vegetables. They are delicious!
The pot has arrived! The restaurant offers three types of broth: clear broth, black broth, and tom yum broth. Today, we ordered the restaurant's signature tom yum broth and black broth. The tom yum broth is very fragrant and flavorful, but not too spicy. The black broth has a rich soy sauce aroma. They complement each other well and help to cut through the richness. If you order two broths, there is an additional charge of 30 baht.
Order cheese with it, it comes in a large basket that can be hung in the middle of the pot.
Or you can sprinkle it on the meat while it's being boiled. This only costs about 30 baht extra.
It's very rich and delicious with the tom yum soup, it has a strange but delicious taste. 5555
A variety of ingredients, including pork, beef, tofu, crispy squid, jellyfish, shrimp, and clams, were used in the dish. Images of the dish are available upon request.
We highly recommend the thinly sliced pork and beef at this restaurant. The beef, in particular, is incredibly fresh and of high quality. The presentation is also beautiful. Just reviewing it makes us hungry again!
The seafood section is decent, with fresh, crispy, and crunchy ingredients. The marinated pork is also noteworthy.
When eating, we dip the sliced pork and beef into the boiling soup for a few seconds before taking it out to prevent the meat from becoming too tough. We then dip it in the dipping sauce. It's delicious!
Mussels with cheese
Sprinkle cheese for a rich, aromatic, and creamy flavor.
This delectable experience comes at a price that is easy on the wallet, ensuring that you don't overindulge. Take your time and order gradually over the course of 1.5 hours.
This meal was truly worth the price.
On weekdays, the crowd starts to swell from around 4 or 5 pm onwards.
On weekends, the shop opens at noon and people start to trickle in.

The food is generally satisfactory, although there may be occasional instances of missing items from orders. While some staff members may have difficulty with clear pronunciation, their attentiveness is commendable.
Thank you to all who have followed me to the end. Here is a bonus video review of LAVA SHABU: Cheap and good, it really exists. A small shabu buffet, but very filling, located at Sukhumvit 101/1.
