Hello, fellow Pantip users! Today, we'll take you on a journey to discover a small coffee shop in Bangkok's Sukhumvit 101/1 area. This old neighborhood has seen a surge in coffee shops, but this one is no ordinary cafe. It's owned by the 2016 Latte Art Champion! With a champion opening a shop near my home, I couldn't resist trying it out.
Normally, I avoid coffee because it makes me feel jittery, awake, and unable to sleep. I've had my share of sleepless nights and anxiety from coffee, so I rarely touch it, except for early mornings. However, this shop's coffee is different. It doesn't have that effect on me at all. The coffee beans are sourced from a northern province in Thailand and roasted to the shop's specific aroma profile. They're freshly ground, filling the small space with the delightful scent of coffee. After discovering this place, I told myself, "I can finally drink coffee without feeling jittery!"
The shop is located near the entrance of Soi Wachiradham 30, off Sukhumvit 101/1. It's close to the Maha Sin Market, and you can park your car on the side of the road. The shop is small but offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area features a green garden and a small waterfall, creating a relaxing atmosphere. I've known about this shop for a while now, and it's been open for about six months. The owner is the 2016 Latte Art Champion, so let's see what makes this place special and worth a visit.
A small shop that might be easily overlooked if one is not paying close attention. It is located by the roadside, near the Maha Sin Market.
The outdoor area of this cafe is truly delightful. If the weather permits, with moderate temperatures and gentle sunshine, it's highly recommended to enjoy the ambiance outside. Comfortable cushions provide a relaxing seating experience. However, if the sound of passing traffic is bothersome, the air-conditioned interior offers a cool and fragrant alternative, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air.
A great place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee while chatting with friends.
The indoor area features a barista bar and three sets of tables in different styles. Customers are welcome to bring their laptops and work here, as the cafe offers free Wi-Fi and power outlets.
Specially roasted coffee beans, with the aroma desired by the shop, are available for you to experience fresh.
There are many types of specially roasted coffee beans with various flavors and aromas. Coffee lovers should not miss this.

It was truly magnificent and worth the visit. This cup was made by a latte art champion, ladies and gentlemen, for only 80 baht.
A closer zoom.
Look at the creamy texture of this latte, haha!
The next cup was a drip coffee. You Ko, the owner of the shop, brought the drip equipment to the table and showed us how to make it. We could see how meticulous and dedicated the shop was to offering good coffee. Drip coffee lovers must try it.
This translates to:
This resulted in a cup of drip coffee with a surprising banana-like aroma. Even as someone who doesn't drink coffee, I enjoyed it. This cup costs 100 baht.
While trying out the drinks, the latte art champion, Mr. Ko, also recommends the Sparking for those who want a refreshing and fizzy coffee drink. It's a mix of espresso and soda, offering a unique and refreshing experience. This drink costs 90 baht. If you're tired of the usual coffee, give this one a try.
In addition, the shop also sells Cold Brew, which looks like a liquor bottle. Just looking at it makes you drunk. Wait, wait, no, it's 100 baht per bottle, with the shop's logo on it.
The logo of the shop sparked curiosity, leading to a fascinating story. The owner, Khun Ko, explained that one of the inspirations behind opening Local Hand Coffee was the desire to support Thai farmers and their agricultural products, particularly coffee beans. The shop aims to present Thai coffee in a global format, as evidenced by the coffee we tasted, which was made with beans from Chiang Rai. The hand in the shop's logo represents the hands of farmers, hence the name Local Hand Coffee.
In a remote mountainous village in northern Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) once embarked on a royal visit. He envisioned a transformation for the local community, encouraging them to switch from opium cultivation to coffee farming. However, upon returning to inspect the progress, almost all the coffee plants had perished, leaving only a single survivor. Despite the skepticism of his entourage who deemed the mountainous terrain unsuitable for coffee cultivation, the King remained steadfast in his belief. He recognized the potential of the lone surviving plant and continued to support the villagers in honing their agricultural skills. Through unwavering dedication and development efforts, the once barren land flourished into a thriving coffee plantation, providing a sustainable livelihood for the community.
Wow! After listening to the story, I never imagined that this small coffee shop would have such an interesting concept, history, and origin.
For those who enjoy the coffee here and would like to purchase beans to take home, they are available for purchase.
This establishment also offers croissants, perfect for pairing with your coffee.
