Continuing from my previous post, where I mentioned buying a basket of Thai desserts from Eathai, I originally planned to give it to an elder. However, plans changed, and they were unavailable to receive it. Rather than letting the fresh and delicious treats go to waste, I decided to enjoy them myself. So, here we go!
The small, 8-inch gift basket we purchased contains an assortment of Thai sweets. The basket and the sweets are separated by a gold-colored cardboard tray lined with banana leaves and wrapped in food-grade plastic wrap. This packaging ensures that the basket remains clean and can be reused.
The tray has been removed from the basket.

Beautiful and diverse.
This is an overview of all the desserts.
Let's start with the desserts one by one. Starting with **fried taro balls**, the staff told me when I bought them that I should eat them quickly to get the best flavor and freshness of the ingredients. Therefore, it should not be more than 3 days from the date of purchase. When I took them out to eat, the taste was really fresh. The taro filling was smooth, dense, soft, and not too sweet. I enjoyed them so much that I finished them all.
Kanom Krok: This unique dessert features a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. The batter is infused with the fragrant aroma of pandan leaves, creating a delightful taste sensation. Kanom Krok pairs perfectly with coffee or tea, making it an ideal treat for any occasion.
Saneh Chan is a type of Thai dessert that is not often sold commercially due to the intricate process of kneading the dough with sugar and incorporating the soft, fluffy coconut filling. This establishment, however, excels in crafting this delicacy, achieving the perfect balance of form, flavor, and aroma. The texture is delightfully chewy and yielding, while the sweetness is perfectly balanced.
Rose-shaped Alua Unlike the usual teardrop-shaped alua, this version boasts intricate, well-defined rose petals, making it an ideal gift for special occasions. The smooth texture of the dough, sugar, and coconut milk, combined with the crunchy exterior and soft, moist interior, creates an unparalleled flavor experience.
The "Kratong Sai Da", a rare and hard-to-find traditional Thai dessert, often faces neglect due to its intense sweetness. It is typically sold alongside the "Mor Taan", a simple sweet made from flour and sugar. While the "Mor Taan" lacks complexity, the "Kratong Sai Da" offers a unique experience. The hollowed-out coconut shell acts as a vessel for a sweet filling, contrasting the sharp sweetness with the subtle sweetness and chewy texture of grated coconut.
Golden Starfruit, also known as Sergeant Mongkut, is a sweet and refreshing dessert made with fresh starfruit, crunchy watermelon seeds, and a decorative gold leaf.
The Thong Ek pastry is meticulously crafted with intricate and elegant imprints, boasting a delightful sweetness and a satisfyingly moist texture. While not overly saccharine, its balanced sweetness makes it a perfect accompaniment to an afternoon tea. Adorned with a sheet of pure gold leaf, the pastry exudes an aura of luxury and sophistication.
In addition to the traditional Thai gift baskets, there are also a variety of other options available, such as baskets filled with different types of chili paste, honey, or Thai fruits like the Golden Mango or green mango. There are also baskets with sweet fish sauce and sweet shrimp paste, all packaged in stylish containers. If you're looking for a unique and stylish gift basket for a special occasion, be sure to check out these options. They might just be the perfect choice for the upcoming New Year's festival.
