This was an incredibly cool trip for me personally. It was the second day after visiting Ranong, and I traveled to Koh Phrathong in Phang Nga Province, Kura Buri District. I took a boat across the Ramsar site (a wetland), one of 14 in Thailand. It felt like sailing into the Amazon River in South America, as it meandered along the bends of the water. It was amazing! If I had a drone, it would have been incredible.
A Night Under the Stars: Reconnecting with Nature in a Thai Homestay
This trip involved a unique homestay experience at Uncle Thep Amorn's house, where we slept in tents – a first for me in over 20 years. The excitement was palpable as we sailed towards our destination, arriving just as the tide rose, sparing us from wading through water to reach the waiting car. Uncle Thep's driver, E-Taek, greeted us warmly.
The highlight of the trip was exploring the natural trails of Thung Samet and the savanna-like grasslands in a classic jeep. The experience was truly immersive, especially with the jeep's vintage aesthetic perfectly complementing the golden hues of the grassland. It felt like stepping into a scene from a bygone era.
After admiring the rice fields, there are activities such as catching crabs or black crabs and taking you to the net to catch fish by the sea. In the evening, it's a great feeling. The sun is setting over the Andaman Sea. You can sit and watch for hours.
Uncle Thep Amorn's house. This is to say that during the tsunami, Uncle told me after dinner that it was very terrifying to run for their lives. 200-300 people on the island died and their bodies were still floating around the island.
The uncle's house still uses a generator at night, and they sleep in the open air. They said that if you are not comfortable sleeping in a tent, you can sleep in the house. The uncle's family sleeps in the pavilion because they don't like sleeping in the house. However, the uncle said there are geckos, so I'll pass.
This trip was a real adventure, a departure from my usual luxurious and comfortable travels. However, the food here is exceptional, truly delicious. I highly recommend it.

Personally, I would like to state upfront that I am not a skilled writer.
You can refill the crab as much as you want. Once it's gone, drive the e-tag for 20 minutes and come back to do it again.
The trip is over! This 3-day, 2-night trip to Ranong, including the beach, cost 4,500 baht per person.
Many thanks to the younger siblings for letting me join the trip. I went alone without knowing anyone. I felt like going to Ranong, but I also got to visit Phang Nga.
The homestay has a Facebook page, as the name suggests. You can try contacting them, but it may not be very convenient.
Late at night, the uncle will also tell the story of his escape from the tsunami in 2004.
