Travel

Travel by bus, Somphot Tour, from Vibhavadi, 5:20 PM on Monday. Ticket price is 788 baht per trip.

On the tour bus, there will be…

  • Pillow

Blanket

  • One box of milk and one box of juice.
  • Bread
  • Plain water
  • Stop for dinner at the Bus Terminal Rest Stop in Salak Bat at approximately 9:30 PM. A buffet meal will be provided, with a time limit of 30 minutes.

It is recommended to bring sleeping pills as the journey to Mae Hong Son takes approximately 15 hours. If you are unable to sleep on the bus, you will likely feel stiff and tired upon arrival.

The bus arrived at Mae Hong Son Bus Terminal around 8:00 AM. The temperature was a pleasant 17 degrees Celsius. As soon as we got off the bus, motorcycle taxi drivers approached us. We took a motorcycle taxi to a motorbike rental shop, which cost 40 baht. We rented a motorbike for 250 baht per day for 4 days, with a 1,000 baht deposit. The route was not difficult to drive, but there were many curves. If you are not a confident driver, it is not recommended. Follow the road to Pai, and there will be a sign to turn left to Pang Ung. There will be signs along the way.

Take a drive through the city of Mae Hong Son and stop by Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, located near the car rental shop. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire city.

From Mae Hong Son city, it is a 40 km drive to Pang Ung. We drove around looking for accommodation in Pang Ung, including homestays with local villagers. We finally found a place at Som Sak Homestay for 400 baht/night, but the owner reduced the price to 300 baht because he saw that we were traveling alone. The homestay has a private bathroom and electricity. It is a small house that can accommodate two people and is the closest to Pang Ung. However, the other homestays are not far away, as they are all located in a cluster of villages.

In Pang Ung, there are both houses and tents available. There are bathrooms and charging stations at the shops.

The afternoon sun bathes Pang Ung in tranquility, with few visitors and a peaceful atmosphere. The weekday lull offers a serene escape from the crowds.

During January, the Phaya Suea Krong (a type of wildflower) will bloom at Pang Ung, adding to the beauty of the area. While the number of flowers may not be large, they will enhance the overall aesthetic appeal.

The community offers a wider variety of food options, including cooked-to-order dishes, rice porridge, fried eggs, and grilled pork.

As the sky darkened completely, the temperature dropped, and the cold air filled the atmosphere. The stars twinkled brightly across the vast expanse of the night sky.

A New Dawn in the Thai Alps

The morning mist dances over the water, gently lifting the bamboo rafts as they drift along. This is the Switzerland of Thailand, a place whispered about in hushed tones. Now, we stand here, witnessing its beauty firsthand. The breathtaking scenery leaves us speechless, the only sound the gentle murmur of the water. As we sip our coffee, time seems to stand still, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the moment. This is the epitome of relaxation, a perfect escape from the everyday.

Let the scenery describe its own beauty. We sat and absorbed this feeling for a long time. In the late morning, we packed our bags and continued to Ban Rak Thai. Farewell, Pang Ung. It was truly worth the trip. No matter how far, it was truly worth it. See you again in Part 2, Ban Rak Thai. https://th.readme.me/p/14809
