Part 3: Exploring Nang Rong and Surrounding Districts, Learning About Community Life and Visiting Temples
Today, we will take you on a journey to the city of "Nang Rong," a large district in the province located on the Chok Chai - Det Udom Road.
Starting from the walking street that is only open on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Bustling with Activity: A Local Market's Abundance
The phrase "ถนนคนเดินถมหมืดถมมอ" in the Naa Rong dialect signifies an abundance, a place teeming with activity. This bustling market offers a diverse selection of culinary delights, from savory dishes to sweet treats, alongside fresh produce and an array of local specialties. True to its name, the market presents a vibrant tapestry of flavors and experiences, earning it the prestigious designation of a "Must-Visit Market."
How could I miss out on trying the famous Nang Rong pork leg? It's their signature dish!
Stir-fried Noodles of Nang Rong
This dish, known as "Stir-fried Noodles of Nang Rong," is another famous local delicacy. While it resembles the "Stir-fried Noodles of Korat," the noodles used are distinct, and the flavor profile is spicier and sweeter, offering a bolder taste experience. Its popularity is evident in the long lines of eager customers.
Pork balls from Buriram. You can eat them standing right here.
Have you ever tried grilled sticky rice? It's filled with taro and banana, wrapped in banana leaves, and grilled until fragrant. It's best eaten hot.
The vendors were beaming with joy. So adorable! :)
After a satisfying day of exploring, tasting, and shopping, it was time to eat. The result of buying food while hungry is something like this -_-
Phnom Rung Puri Hotel
Today, I am staying at a different hotel in Nang Rong. This hotel is larger and offers rooms ranging from 800 to 3200 baht, depending on the type of room.
The front is decorated with lights. As a bokeh enthusiast, I couldn't miss it.
This is a romantic spot, but it looks like there might be a lot of mosquitoes.
The swimming pool has a mini bar where you can relax and chat by the pool.
The welcome drink was a delicious lemongrass water. I usually don't like the smell of lemongrass, but this one was good.
The elevator entrance is designed to resemble a stone castle, creating a unique and immersive experience reminiscent of visiting an actual stone castle.
The room is spacious, clean, and comfortable to sleep in.
Decorated with locally woven fabrics, it is beautiful and charming.
I appreciate the hairdryer, snacks, and tea/coffee. The attention to detail is impressive.
The hotel offers a breakfast buffet. The restaurant is located right by the pool. It can get crowded, so it's best to arrive early. There are many foreigners, especially those who are attractive.
You can also sit by the pool outside. The morning air is cool and comfortable.
The stir-fried basil is delicious.
Check out these Ducati riders who came all the way from Phuket! They're incredibly skilled drivers.
With full bellies, we're off to explore the various temples in Nang Rong district. The weather is quite hot for late winter, but our spirits are high! 555
Let's go! :)
Wat Khun Kong: A Historical Landmark
The construction of Wat Khun Kong dates back to the Ayutthaya period, commissioned by "Khun Kong," a military officer responsible for overseeing provisions during the reigns of King Naresuan the Great and King Ekathotsarot. Historical estimates place its construction around 1667 CE (2210 BE).
The interior has been renovated.
Photograph taken in 1999.
Wat Rong Man Thet was built around 1895, coinciding with the founding of Nang Rong town.
The interior of the church features murals depicting the life of Buddha, rendered in vibrant and beautiful colors.
**Wat Klang Nang Rong** was established approximately 250 years after Wat Rong Man Thet, during the reigns of King Naresuan the Great and King Ekathotsarot, in the year 1693.
The windows and doors of the ordination hall are uniquely beautiful.
The final destination of this trip is Phu Man Fa Temple, a meditation retreat center located in the Chamnarn district of Buriram province, approximately 12 kilometers from Nang Rong district. The temple is home to the revered Luang Pu Hin Buddha statue.
There are many other temples in Nang Rong that we did not visit due to time constraints. This trip to Nang Rong made us realize that the weather in Thailand is very hot. Just kidding! It made us realize that Nang Rong is a city with a very long history. It has been a passageway for travel to various places from ancient times to the present. There are many interesting stories, and the culture, both language and food, is unique to Nang Rong. If anyone is passing through southern Isan, I would like to recommend Buriram Province and Nang Rong District as an option. See you again on the next trip. :)))
