Peggy's Cove Fisherman Village, Ao Kung Wiman, Chanthaburi
As mentioned in my previous post, we spent three days and two nights in Chanthaburi. One reason was to practice driving outside of Bangkok, and the other reason for choosing Chanthaburi was that we received a complimentary one-night stay, one dinner, and an indigo dyeing activity at Peggy's Cove Fisherman Village in Ao Kung Wiman, Chanthaburi. This was part of the Blogger Matching program organized by Read Me.
Light House Bar & Grill
Absolutely, we have a duty to review according to the terms and conditions of the Blogger Matching project. However, whether the review is good or bad is a matter of taste. Let's share our experience of using the service and let everyone listen. As for belief, it is a personal matter. Whether you believe it or not is another matter. What is good for us may not be good for you. What you like may not be what we like. We think it would be better to use it as decision-making information.
Outdoor tables offer a unique seaside ambiance.
Let's get started. After checking into our room, we went downstairs to have coffee while waiting for the indigo dyeing activity. By the time the activity was over, it was almost dinner time. To avoid wasting time, we decided to check out the restaurant where we would be having our fancy dinner tonight.
The restaurant at Peggy's Cove Fisherman Village is called Light House Bar & Grill. The name "Lighthouse" is a reference to the village's Canadian maritime theme. While the lighthouse itself is more closely associated with the Coffee Cove cafe, the Lighthouse restaurant's interior evokes the atmosphere of a lighthouse. The exterior of the restaurant resembles a barn, while the interior provides a cozy and comfortable space reminiscent of a lighthouse.

The interior walls are adorned with a pattern of stones, resembling a lighthouse built before the advent of stacked stones.
The interior is said to be a lighthouse, as the walls are decorated with a pattern of stones, similar to a lighthouse that uses stones stacked together to form a tall building. The lighthouse is used to shine a light to guide ships, and in another sense, it is used to look out to sea over a long distance to find ships in need of help or those in distress at sea. This restaurant has many windows and mirrors, so you can see the atmosphere of looking out of a lighthouse. It's especially romantic when the sun is setting, like it is now.
Interior Design of Lighthouse Bar & Grill
The restaurant is divided into two sections. The first section is located indoors and resembles a large, spacious dining room. It is furnished with approximately 50 tables and decorated with various fishing equipment, including fishing nets and images of lighthouses in different styles. The orange-brown ceiling contrasts with the sea-blue walls, creating an atmosphere that perfectly complements the seaside setting as the sun sets near the lighthouse.

The glass windows offer panoramic views, especially those facing the sea.
The next room is slightly smaller, accommodating approximately 30 guests. The floor is covered with wood-patterned parquet, and the white-painted walls are adorned with medieval European-style lamps. The white and blue furniture creates a warm atmosphere, and the room is surrounded by windows. On the day of our visit, the restaurant was full, but there were no complaints about the service or delays in food delivery. The menu features a variety of Italian and Thai dishes, as well as a wide selection of seafood.
A room that simulates the warm atmosphere inside a lighthouse.
We were assigned a table in this room, but due to the room being full, we did not get the best corner. However, the corner we were seated in was still quite beautiful. We could see the sunset from our table, but unfortunately, the power lines running along the beach obstructed the view to some extent.

This is our table, number 13, our lucky number.
We were seated in the center of the room, with a window next to us offering a view of the sea outside.

The first dish served was "Salmon Larb," which consisted of crispy fried salmon flaked and tossed in a spicy larb dressing. The dish was garnished with fresh mint leaves and served with long slices of fresh cucumber on the side. The vibrant colors and fresh ingredients made for an enticing presentation.
This salmon laab is relatively easy to eat, as the mild aroma of roasted rice is easily overpowered by the stronger scent and flavor of shallots. The crispy, shredded fish provides a satisfying crunch, making it a perfect appetizer. Additionally, the dish is not overly spicy, making it suitable for both Thais who prefer milder flavors and foreigners who are not accustomed to intense spice levels.
The next dish was a rich and creamy tom yum seafood soup, boasting vibrant colors and a thick, enticing broth. The squid, shrimp, and fish looked fresh and succulent, and the green vegetables provided a delightful contrast to the vibrant red of the soup.
Spicy and Creamy Seafood Tom Yum
This rich and flavorful Tom Yum soup is packed with fresh squid and shrimp, offering a delightful combination of textures and tastes.
This dish truly captures the sweet and savory flavors of coconut milk, fresh milk, curry paste, and the freshness of the ingredients. The flavors are rich and intense, without being overly spicy. The squid is incredibly fresh and has a satisfying bite, while the shrimp are plump and perfectly sized for enjoying with the tom yum soup. The sea bass is not dry and flaky, but instead absorbs the flavors of the tom yum, making it incredibly flavorful. The soup is easy to drink and pairs perfectly with hot steamed rice. Overall, this dish is a delicious and satisfying meal.
The next dish was a specialty of Chanthaburi, the famous Moo Chamuang. Its appearance was dark and rich in color. I took a spoonful of the broth, which was thick and fragrant. The pork was a combination of meat and skin with some fat, but not so much that it was greasy or overwhelming.
The natural sweetness of the pork curry with cha-om leaves, or moo cha-om, is quite pronounced. Lighthouse Restaurant has done an excellent job of capturing the essence of this dish. The stewed pork is not mushy, but rather has a firm, chewy texture. The sweetness is prominent, but not cloying, and the dish is best enjoyed with hot steamed rice. Although the pork contains skin and fat, the skin has been cooked until it is soft and tender, giving it a jelly-like texture that makes it easy to eat. If you're not worried about your waistline, this dish is a real treat, especially when served with hot steamed rice.

The next dish, while seemingly a departure from the previous courses, was a welcome change of pace, offering a taste of international cuisine. The pork chop, served on a large wooden chopping board, was accompanied by sautéed heirloom tomatoes with garlic and mashed potatoes, all drizzled with a rich red wine sauce.

The dish is presented creatively and beautifully, although the tableware may seem excessive. The size of the wooden cutting board, however, prevents a feeling of clutter. The mashed potatoes served in the soup cup are smooth and creamy, offering a sweet and buttery flavor that eliminates the need for additional salt. The queen tomatoes and garlic are fried to perfection, retaining their natural flavors. The red wine sauce is rich, aromatic, and sweet, with a slight saltiness that enhances the flavor of the pork chop.
Although the pork chop was slightly overcooked, the meat remained tender and flavorful. The red wine sauce was well-absorbed, creating a harmonious blend of savory pork and sweet, rich wine notes. The dish was a delight, especially when enjoyed in the warm and elegant ambiance of the Lighthouse restaurant.

Our Dinner
We conclude our program with seasonal fruits, namely watermelon and honeydew melon.
Seasonal Fruits: Watermelon and Honeydew Melon
This concludes our warm evening at the Lighthouse Bar & Grill, with its lighthouse-like ambiance by the sea and delicious food. In the next post, we will discuss the Peggy's Cove Fisherman Village hotel itself. For now, good night.
Thank you for watching.
