Ao Udom
If you're looking for a beach getaway near Bangkok, Chonburi is a popular choice. Home to Pattaya and Bang Saen beaches, it's just over an hour's drive from the city. But Chonburi offers more than just beaches. Sriracha, known for its delicious food and convenient transportation, is another great option. With fewer crowds, it provides a more relaxed atmosphere.

In close proximity, there is an intriguing beach known as "Ao Udom," which has recently transformed from a commercial hub for fishing, industry, and shipping into a popular leisure and relaxation destination for both locals and visitors. This transformation is evident in the presence of numerous vacation homes constructed by prominent businesses in the area.

Short Bridge at Ao Udom

Especially during the cool evening hours, people can be seen bringing their children and grandchildren to play in the water, eat, and have picnics in this area. In the evenings, enthusiastic anglers gather on the short bridge to fish. Additionally, boat services are available for squid fishing.

Vacation home and/or recreation center of a business

Not far from Ao Udom Bay, there is a large tree called "Ton Liaep," which is considered a local treasure. It is truly massive, with a circumference that could easily accommodate six people. While it was previously unclaimed, a small house now stands at its base. According to local customs, a seven-color, seven-cubit cloth is wrapped around the Ton Liaep tree. This serves as a symbolic gesture, suggesting that anyone wishing to cut the tree should first show respect to its spirit.

Drive past the giant rain tree. If you're coming from Bangkok, you'll pass Nong Mon Market on your way to Bang Phra. It's near the military camp. After about 100 meters, you'll see the entrance to Sikha Plaza Resort. Yes, we'll be staying here tonight. But first, let's get something to eat.

Chefs De Plago: A Seaside Dining Experience
Chefs De Plago, nestled within the Sikhara Plago Resort, offers a delightful seaside dining experience. Boasting a private beach accessible to both resort guests and diners, the restaurant prioritizes spaciousness and comfort over maximizing seating capacity. This deliberate design allows patrons to savor their meals while enjoying unobstructed ocean views in a relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere.

Chefs De Plago (เชฟ เดอ พลาโช่) boasts a unique and individualistic character, evident in its elegant and sophisticated interior design, as well as the meticulously arranged furniture and décor of its beachfront dining area. The furniture, both on the beach and within the guest rooms, is custom-made by local farmers, with funding provided by Sikara and skilled artisans hired to design and train farmers in the Sri Sa Ket district who have been impacted by drought. This initiative imbues the furniture with a profound value that transcends its material worth, embodying a narrative of mutual support and generosity.

The front balcony connects to the indoor dining area.

Evening beach

The sun is setting.

The seaside table is stylishly designed and comfortable to sit on.

The cinema has a screen for watching movies.

We arrived quite late in the evening and were able to secure a table by the sea. I was very impressed with the table setting and the various furniture, including the glasses, plates, spoons, and forks. We didn't order any food yet, but we sat there gazing at the sky, the water, and the sea. If I were here with my partner, I think it would be very touching. As I was enjoying the moment, I turned to look at the people next to me, a mother and her child. I realized that I should be content with what I have.

Red Margarita
Before ordering anything, we started with a light and refreshing cocktail, the Red Margarita. Its sweet and sour flavors were perfectly balanced by the salty rim, making it an ideal apéritif to awaken our taste buds.

Two beautiful cocktails for us

Mango Sticky Rice Cocktail
This glass contains a mango sticky rice cocktail. Yes, you read that correctly, "mango sticky rice." They blended glutinous rice into the drink. The creaminess of the sticky rice and the sweetness of the mango are balanced by the slight bitterness of the alcohol. It's a creative and delicious take on the classic mango sticky rice dessert.

As the sun began to set and the wind died down, the sky darkened, signaling the time for the main course. The evening view at Chefs De Plago was no less stunning, so I took a few photos to capture the moment.

Stir-fried lamb with forest herbs
The first dish served was perfect as an appetizer: stir-fried lamb in a spicy jungle curry. I've only ever had lamb steak before, but this stir-fried version was a revelation. The lamb was cut into tender pieces and stir-fried with a spicy jungle curry paste. It was hot and spicy, with an added kick from the mala spice. Yes, I heard that the chef added it himself. It was served with crispy fried basil, which added a nice aroma and crunch. It was delicious and the lamb was cooked perfectly.

Oh, a beer would be great, that would be fantastic.

Tomahawk steak

A thick, juicy cut of prime rib, served with a variety of roasted and fried vegetables, accompanied by a rich red wine sauce. The meat is melt-in-your-mouth tender, cooked to a perfect medium-rare. A side of spicy Thai dipping sauce, with its sweet, sour, and salty notes, complements the thick slices of meat. A true paradise for meat lovers.

Spaghetti Carbonara
With children in tow, a kid-friendly menu was a must. Spaghetti Carbonara, a dish enjoyed by both children and adults, was a standout. The restaurant's version, featuring a generous serving of eggs Benedict and a generous sprinkling of cheese, proved to be a major hit. The rich and creamy carbonara sauce, paired with crispy bacon, had the children devouring their plates, leaving only a small taste for the adults.

Crispy Seaweed Roll with Tuna, Crab Stick, and Avocado
This sushi features a delightful combination of tuna, crab stick, and avocado, all wrapped in a crispy seaweed shell.

Tuna Avocado Roll
This dish is so delicious that it will make you forget about the kids. The tuna avocado roll is a must-try, and it turns out that the chef here is known for his sushi-making skills. My mom whispered to me that it's "so good, it's delicious." The main ingredients are tuna, crab sticks, avocado, and crispy seaweed. When you take a bite, it's a combination of crunchy, crispy, sweet, and savory. You won't even need wasabi.

Evening atmosphere by the sea
The night ended with a memorable experience, both in terms of the delicious food and the ambiance. We were so full that we had to sit by the beach and enjoy the cool sea breeze. It was truly a night to remember at Chefs De Plago At Sikhara Resort. I will be reviewing the rooms in a separate post.
Thank you for watching.
