This trip departed on April 10, 2017.

Satun offers more than just Koh Lipe. There is also a lesser-known tourist destination called Koh Khao Yai. Previously, only locals were aware of this island and had been practicing sustainable tourism for a long time. However, it has not received the promotion it deserves. This trip is a special one-day experience that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the island's pristine natural beauty while being guided by local villagers. Notably, the villagers of the Bo Chet Luk community are the only ones authorized by the Mu Ko Phetra National Park to conduct tourism activities. No companies are permitted to operate tours on the island.

  • This trip will mainly use kayaks for sightseeing. The main landmark is the Thousand Peaks Stone Castle, where you will have to paddle a kayak through a cave to get inside.
  • In addition to the Prasat Hin Panyot, there are other nearby attractions, such as a viewpoint with a large collection of Cambrian fossils, Ao Hin Ngam, and the Dragon's Spine.

The trip costs 1500 baht per person. The villagers will take care of everything for us.

My journey began with boarding a boat at Ban Bo Chet Luk Pier in Lang Suan District, adjacent to Paknam Resort.

The passenger boat that will take us will also tow a kayak. You can choose which one you want to ride. I recommend riding a kayak, it's a lot of fun!

The first place the villagers took us was a Cambrian fossil site. In this picture, a brachiopod is clearly visible.

This Cambrian fossil site in the image is a cephalopod (difficult to see).

Near the fossil site, there is a rock formation called the "Heart at the Tip" or "Andaman Heart." The path to see it is quite frightening, as the cliffs are very steep.

The journey continues...

The guide then took us to lunch. The lunch spot was incredibly private.

This meal is a delicious example of local cuisine.

Now that we're full, let's move on.

The translation of the sentence "ถึงปากทางเข้าปราสาทหินพันยอดแล้ว" is "We have arrived at the entrance of the Prasat Hin Phanom Rung."

Before reaching this point, the boat will allow us to paddle our kayaks through the cave to the other side. The distance is not too far.

This is a video of the interior.

The Thousand-Pinnacle Stone Castle, a new unseen attraction in Satun Province, has arrived.

After visiting the Prasat Hin Panyot, we continued to Ao Hin Ngam.

The island is characterized by an abundance of rocks, making it a visually stunning location.

The final stop on our tour was the "Dragon's Spine," the seventh such formation in Satun province, located near the village of Baan Bor Jed Luk.

When the tide recedes, a long sandbar emerges, connecting the island to another, resembling a parting sea.

The vast stretches of sand resemble dragon scales.

To conclude, my one-day trip to Ko Khao Yai in Satun Province deserves a 5-star rating.
