The Banyan Tree in Front of the Market: The Origin of the Name Lumphini Market

The name "Lumphini Market" originates from the large banyan tree ("ต้นโพธิ์") that stood in front of the market. This iconic tree served as a prominent landmark and gathering place, eventually lending its name to the bustling marketplace that grew around it.

Entering the market is like any other market, with ready-made food to tempt you before you even realize it.

Upon entering, one encounters a plethora of dried food, dried seafood, and various marine products. The prices are reasonable, and the products appear fresh and new.

The product has been divided into bags for sale. If you want to weigh it again, the seller will be happy to do so.

Moving further inside, we are greeted by a magnificent display of seafood.

Seafood market

This shop sells and cooks food.

The highlight is that you can buy fresh ingredients from any shop in the market and have them delivered to the front shop to be cooked and served fresh immediately. There is a cooking service charge for grilling, roasting, and steaming at 30 baht per kilogram. However, other menus have different prices.

After preparing the meal, they happily gathered under the shade of a tree in the public park outside to enjoy their meal.

Nearby, there is a public park with a pavilion offering a refreshing sea breeze, perfect for relaxation, sightseeing, and enjoying local delicacies.

All done, full from eating, slept well, bought things to bring home, time to go home now.
