Nan: Slowly, slowly

A Tranquil Escape to Nan: Immersing in the Serene Beauty of Northern Thailand

Nan, a picturesque city nestled in the northern reaches of Thailand, offers a welcome respite from the frenetic pace of modern life. Its charm lies in its harmonious blend of stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and the unhurried rhythm of local life.

The journey to Nan presents a variety of options. For those seeking a scenic road trip, the well-maintained highways provide ample opportunities to admire the verdant landscapes and quaint villages. Alternatively, comfortable overnight buses offer a convenient and budget-friendly alternative, arriving in Nan just as the day breaks. However, for time-conscious travelers, a direct flight proves to be the most efficient option.

Our journey commenced with a morning flight on Nok Air, departing at 9:10 AM and arriving in Nan by 10:30 AM. This schedule allowed us to maximize our exploration time in the city. Our return flight was booked for the evening, ensuring ample time to savor the delights of Nan's urban core.

This trip, we didn't check any luggage, so we checked in through the app in advance. We were able to show our boarding pass on our phones at the gate, which was very convenient.

Prepare to board the flight to Nan, this flight uses a propeller aircraft.

The flight attendant served Nok Chaem water.

Upon entering Nan province, one is greeted by the sight of verdant mountains.

After a short one-hour journey, we arrived in Nan at around 10:30 AM. We had booked a van from Nan Klerngarun, which was waiting for us at the exit gate. We boarded the van and set off on our exploration of Nan.

Day 1: Bangkok - Nan - Bo Kluea - Apo Demang

We headed to Pua District to travel to Bo Kluea District, our first night's accommodation destination. However, since we were passing through Pua District and had some time, we decided to stop by Pua for a bit. We stopped at Cocoa Valley, which is located just before Pua District.

In addition to the cafe, there is also accommodation available here.

The text you provided is already in English. It reads: "There are cocoa trees and fresh cocoa fruits to see."

Is there anything else I can help you with?

The delicious snacks were accompanied by stunning mountain views and a wonderful atmosphere.

After enjoying the delicious snacks, we continued our journey to Wat Phukhet. Many people may wonder why a temple in Nan is named after Phuket. In reality, Wat Phukhet is named after the village of Ban Ket. However, since the temple is located on a hill, which is called "doi" or "phu" in the north, it was named "Wat Phukhet".

The View from the Balcony of Wat Phukhao

The view from the balcony of Wat Phukhao offers a stunning panorama of verdant rice fields. Below, the traditional Tai Lue houses with their distinctive coffee shops and picturesque photo spots beckon visitors to capture the beauty of the scene. After soaking in the breathtaking views, we set off towards Bo Kluea District.

Before heading up, let's stop by to take a picture with the walls of Phua.

On the way to Bo Kluea, our van driver, Mr. Gap, stopped at a photo spot on the Sky Road. The view was absolutely stunning.

Take a picture with the green mountains in the background.

Following our guide, we stopped at another scenic spot for photos. However, as we arrived during a foggy period, the usual panoramic view was replaced by a mesmerizing blanket of mist. This unexpected encounter offered a unique and ethereal beauty to the landscape.

Despite the heavy fog, our experienced driver safely navigated the route to B่อเกลือ, ensuring a comfortable journey for our tourists.

Upon arriving at the salt flats, we reached our accommodation, Apodemaeng. During this period, vehicles must be parked at the top, and we had to walk down to our accommodation, which was a tent by the river.

Walking down is easy, but walking up is a good exercise.

Accommodation options abound, ranging from individual tents to private houses.

Our reserved twin tent is located right by the water like this.

The tent is equipped with beds, electrical outlets, and amenities.

The restrooms will be shared facilities, separated by gender.

The front of the tent has a canvas bed for lounging, making it super relaxing and enjoyable.

Let's have a B.B.Q party by the river for dinner.

The sentence is already in English and does not require translation.

The food is served in a traditional Thai tiffin carrier. Let's enjoy dinner together.

As dusk settled, the accommodation lit up, creating a different kind of beautiful atmosphere. We decided to take a shower and listen to the sound of the water before going to bed. Even though there was no fan, the air was cool and comfortable. Coincidentally, on the night we went, it rained lightly, making it easy to fall asleep.

Day 2: Bo Kluea - Pua - Tanong Homestay

The morning mist greets us outside our tent.

Breakfast is served at the upstairs dining room, where you can enjoy a delicious meal while taking in the stunning morning views of the mountains. I will be posting a full review of the Apodheomong accommodation soon, so stay tuned! If you're interested in a relaxing stay by the river, come and enjoy a glamping experience at Apodheomong.

We arranged for Gap to pick us up at 9 am. He arrived right on time and was waiting for us in front of our accommodation. Let's continue our trip!

Upon arriving at Bo Kluea, we decided to visit the ancient salt wells.

We arrived during the Buddhist Lent, a time when locals abstain from boiling salt.

Before leaving, we stopped to take some photos. The fog was very thick.

Bor Klue is a popular tourist destination that offers a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. The natural surroundings and flowing water create a tranquil environment, perfect for unwinding and enjoying some quiet time.

We stopped by Baan Tai Lue Coffee for a cup of coffee. The coffee is affordable, but the view is priceless. There are pavilions to relax in, and a bamboo bridge for strolling and taking photos.

After a tiring day of walking and taking photos, we decided to have dinner at the Khao Soi restaurant next door, Baan Tai Lue Khao Soi.

Would you like a bowl of Khao Soi Gai after lunch? After finishing our Khao Soi, we headed to our accommodation for the second night.

Our second night's accommodation was at Tanong Homestay, which offered stunning views of the lush green rice fields.

Our room is located on the 3rd floor with a balcony offering stunning views.

Let's take a break, freshen up, and enjoy the view of the lush green rice fields.

Let's fly kites in the beautiful rice fields with a cool breeze.

There are benches to sit and enjoy the view of the rice fields.

After a tiring run, it's the perfect time for a delicious dinner.

The meal was a local menu served in a khantoke, with sai ua grilled over charcoal. It was so delicious that I had to order more to take home.

After finishing our meal, we went for a walk.

As the sun begins to set, the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors. It's time to wind down and prepare for a restful night's sleep.

Day 3 : Pua - Nan Province - Bangkok

Waking up in the morning, I saw fog from the front of my room.

Waking up to a breakfast of rice porridge with carrots, a simple yet delicious dish.

After finishing your meal, the accommodation offers bicycles for you to borrow and explore the surroundings. Let's go for a bike ride and enjoy the scenery!

The climb was slightly uphill, with some sections requiring walking the bike up a slope. However, it was a pleasant ride overall.

Last year, we had the opportunity to pay respects at the Phra That Chom Thong temple. Now that we have returned, we couldn't miss the chance to visit again.

Walk back down to where we parked our bikes and enjoy the view.

Enjoy the view of the mountains and green rice fields from your room before leaving.

As my friend who came with me returned earlier today, I didn't use the van much. The plan is to travel by bus from Pua to Nan city and then walk around while waiting to board the plane in the evening.

The bus from Thung Chang to Nan, departing from the Nan Bus Terminal, costs 50 baht per person.

When you arrive at Nan Bus Terminal, walk out the front entrance and you will soon see Wat Sri Panton. If you don't want to walk, you can call a motorbike taxi to take you there.

Sri Pan Ton Temple

Pay homage to the City Pillar Shrine at Wat Ming Mueang.

Continuing a short distance, you will encounter Phumin Temple.

The highlight of visiting Wat Phumin and Nan Province is the image of "Pu Man Ya Man," a legend said to be the "legendary whisper of love that echoes around the world."

Cross the road and continue to Wat Phra That Chang Kham.

Cross to the opposite side to take a picture with another highlight, the Lilawadee arch in front of the Nan National Museum.

Nan National Museum

We took a photo with the frangipani archway, a must-do when visiting Nan. Afterwards, we called a motorbike taxi to take us to the airport for our 7:05 PM flight.

It's time to board the plane, but I don't want to leave yet.

The plane descended, the view gradually shifting from mountainous landscapes to the illuminated cityscape of Bangkok. Soon, we landed at Don Mueang Airport. Though the trip was brief, my visit to Nan filled me with an indescribable joy. Even now, as I write this review and look at the photos from Nan, I can't help but smile. It's like the saying goes, "Seeing is believing." So, don't miss your chance to experience the slow-paced life of Nan like I did. It's guaranteed to be a relaxing experience.
