Sometimes we just want to visit the beach without actually swimming in the sea. We simply want to relax, gaze at the blue ocean, enjoy some seafood, and find a comfortable place to sleep. When it comes to beaches near Bangkok, "Pattaya" is probably one of the first places that comes to mind. So, for this trip, we decided to spend our weekend relaxing, indulging in a seafood buffet, sipping coffee with a sea view, and exploring a floating market in Pattaya, all without using our own car. Are you ready? Let's go!

Places we visited on this trip:

  • The Sky Gallery: Enjoyed coffee with a stunning ocean view.
  • A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel Pattaya: Relaxed and indulged in a seafood buffet.
  • Jeh Juk Restaurant (Branch 1): Savored delicious local cuisine.
  • Floating Market: Explored the diverse flavors of Thailand's four regions.

Transportation:

The starting point for the van is now at the new Mo Chit van station. After getting off the bus, cross the skywalk and you will find the "Small Passenger Transport Station". Go inside and buy a ticket at Building C, the counter is on the right-hand side. There are many van companies going to Pattaya. If you haven't decided which company to use, you will be pressured by the agents when you stand there reading the signs. Trick: When you enter the building, find a seat on the right-hand side and pretend to be reading the signs while choosing a company. As I hadn't done my research, I randomly walked in and got a ticket from the "Sorasart" company. I told them to drop me off at Wat Chai Mongkol intersection for 140 baht. We waited until the van was full before leaving, which took about 15 minutes. We started at 7:45 AM. The driver was good, but he didn't wear his seatbelt the whole time and stopped to refuel in Bang Lamung for about 20 minutes.

The Sky Gallery

After the van dropped us off at Wat Chai Junction, our next destination was The Sky Gallery restaurant. There are no public buses that pass by, so we used a nearby motorcycle taxi service. If you can't find one, you can wait and hail one at the junction. The motorcycle taxi fare is 60 baht per person. The road leading to the restaurant is a winding uphill climb, especially near the palace. If you are driving yourself, please be cautious.

The seafood restaurant is situated near the Cozy Beach Pattaya Hotel and the Chocolate Factory, offering a clear view of Pattaya Bay. The spacious restaurant boasts ample seating, and despite its midday location, the heat is mitigated by the availability of various seating options, including air-conditioned rooms and open-air areas shaded by large trees. The menu features a wide selection of food and beverages, ranging from snacks to main courses.

The Price of Paradise: A Culinary Review

The restaurant boasts breathtaking ocean views and a delightful ambiance, though the price point reflects this luxurious setting. Our culinary journey began with the French Fries Fondue (145 THB), a generous portion of crispy fries accompanied by a cheese fondue. While the presentation was enticing, the fondue's texture lacked smoothness, resembling a thick paste rather than the expected creamy consistency.

Next, we indulged in the Mix Berry Espresso Frost (135 THB), a vibrant pink concoction of blended coffee infused with mixed berry flavors. The Sky Gallery Coffee Ice (115 THB), the establishment's signature beverage, presented a visually striking blue hue infused with a refreshing mint aroma. A word of caution: when presented with layered beverages like this, ensure thorough mixing before consumption to avoid an abrupt transition from the flavored top layer to the bitter coffee base. This simple step ensures a harmonious and enjoyable drinking experience.

Exiting the shop, I walked to the convenience store in front, where there was a motorcycle taxi stand. Motorcycle taxis are easy to find in Pattaya. Open Google Maps and check the distance to your destination before deciding if the price offered by the taxi driver is reasonable. If you're happy with the price, hop on and go. I had the driver take me back to the original location, Wat Chaimongkol Intersection, for 60 baht. Then, I took a shared taxi, which had "Dolphin Roundabout" written on the side, for 10 baht per person to reach our accommodation for this trip.

  • Before boarding, inquire about the price and destination, as shared taxis can be expensive if you board the wrong one.

A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel Pattaya

Travel

The songthaew runs along Pattaya Second Road, which is a one-way street. We got off at Pattaya Soi 3 and walked about 400 meters into the alley. However, if you are coming from the Dolphin Roundabout, you can drive along the beach road and get off in front of the hotel without having to walk far.

A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel, a 4-star hotel with 196 rooms, is a striking ship-shaped luxury hotel located just across the street from the beach. It is close to shopping malls and tourist attractions. There are also other hotels in the same group nearby, such as A-One Star Hotel (3-star), A-One Pattaya Beach Resort, A-One New Wing Hotel, and the new 5-star Mytt Beach Hotel. Whatever type of room you prefer and your budget, there are plenty of options to choose from.

As I placed my luggage by the chair to check in, a refreshing welcome drink of honey lemon water was promptly served. The staff's uniforms, resembling sailor outfits, were adorable. The spacious lobby offered comfortable seating areas for waiting, and a cafe was available for those who wished to enjoy a cup of coffee.

Accommodation Types

This hotel boasts 196 rooms across six categories: Deluxe room, Cruise Executive Club, Sea View Mini Suite, Family Suite, Ocean Front Suite, and Panoramic Ocean Suite. This review will focus on the Panoramic Ocean Suite and Deluxe room.

  • Panoramic Ocean Suite

The best room in the hotel. Spacious living space. The room size is 150 sq m. There are only 3 rooms. Fully equipped with amenities. The bed faces the sea. You can wake up and see the sea. An extra bed can be added for 1 person.

  • Luxury Room

Our room for tonight is a 32 sqm room with a view of the sunset from the front of the room. The room access system is Key Card.

This room comes with two single beds. If you would like a king-size bed instead, please inform the staff when making your reservation. The beds are soft and comfortable, and two pillows are provided.

Those who brought work to do during their stay will find a work desk with Welcome Fruit and power outlets. We also brought work but didn't touch it because we succumbed to the allure of the soft bed and cool air conditioning. Travelers who need to charge their cameras, phones, and power banks will find ample outlets available.

The room is fully equipped with amenities, including a refrigerator, bottled water, a minibar, coffee-making facilities, a water heater, a telephone, a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, a wardrobe, bathrobes, a hairdryer, towels, toiletries, and slippers. When women travel together, they tend to bring a lot of props and large bags. The room has plenty of storage space and amenities, earning it a perfect score of 10/10. The Wi-Fi is incredibly fast and reliable, allowing for seamless social media updates without any interruptions.

Afternoon Delight: Indulge in Tea or Coffee at the Hotel's Café

In the languid hours of the afternoon, when drowsiness sets in, the allure of a refreshing beverage becomes irresistible. Fortunately, the hotel offers a charming café, a haven for those seeking a caffeine fix or a delightful afternoon tea experience.

The café boasts an enticing array of teas, coffees, and delectable cakes, each crafted with meticulous care. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air, inviting guests to indulge in a revitalizing cup. For those with a penchant for stronger brews, the Espresso Double Shot, priced at 177 baht, promises an invigorating jolt. For those who prefer a touch of sweetness, opting for a less sweet option is recommended.

Beyond the invigorating beverages, the café's ambiance is equally captivating. The charming décor and inviting atmosphere create a perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. The café also offers enticing promotions, adding to the allure of this delightful retreat.

Whether seeking a caffeine boost or a leisurely afternoon tea experience, the hotel's café provides a welcoming haven for guests to unwind and savor the moment.

Please exchange your card first. Any remaining money can be refunded.

Spacious and with ample seating, the area enjoys natural light without being too hot.

Beverages are available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

Dim sum starts at 40 baht and is made fresh to order by the chef. Heartier options include red pork rice, crispy pork rice, duck rice, chicken rice, and a variety of noodle soups, including clear broth, creamy broth, yen ta fo, and tom yum. Homemade pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven.

"Som Tum" restaurant, "Tum Zab," boasts three consecutive championships for the spiciest papaya salad in Pattaya. The restaurant also offers Japanese-style grilled skewers and a variety of Thai desserts, making it a one-stop shop for a complete dining experience.

We ordered cold noodles with fish balls, crispy pork rice, crab dumplings, and soup dumplings. The crispy pork is a must-try, the soup in the soup dumplings is delicious, and the crab dumplings are also good with thin dough. The cold noodles with fish balls have a lot of ingredients, but the soup doesn't taste like cold noodles. This meal cost 285 baht including drinks.

The hotel boasts two swimming pools, open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Guests can enjoy a refreshing dip while admiring the sunset during evening swims. Due to the presence of other guests, we were unable to capture extensive photographs of the swimming pools.

Fat Coco Beach Club: A Poolside Paradise

The Fat Coco Beach Club, situated by the pool, offers a unique opportunity for private pool parties. The hotel also hosts its own pool parties, featuring guest artists and special events during festive seasons. The club's stunning design and color scheme create a truly captivating atmosphere. Imagine sipping on a refreshing drink while taking a dip in the pool – pure bliss! The club welcomes both hotel guests and outside visitors.

Open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The ambiance by the pool at night is captivating. After a stroll on the beach, we returned to capture stunning photographs. Even if you don't want to swim, you can order drinks and relax.

  • Fitness Center

We were excited because we had never been to a Fitness Center before. We usually just ran around the soccer field. When we started running regularly, especially for training or long runs, it was hard to stop running for a day. It was also dangerous to run outside on unfamiliar roads. Fitness One had just been renovated and guests could use it for free. We decided to give it a try. We told the staff that we had never run on a treadmill before. The staff even offered to send a trainer, which made us even more nervous. They took us to the machine and the staff took good care of us. There was a TV to watch, the air conditioning was cool, and there was water to drink. We didn't have to run outside and risk getting hurt or wet from the rain. Most importantly, we didn't miss our training and felt less guilty about eating so much seafood that we almost burst. People who are not staying at the hotel can also sign up for a year for 14,000 baht.

Open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Dining

  • Maritime Restaurant

For those who prefer not to indulge in the buffet, the Maritime restaurant offers a selection of Thai and Western cuisine. Wine enthusiasts will be delighted by the extensive collection of fine wines available.

Open daily from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM.

  • The Boat Restaurant

The Boat Restaurant offers buffet meals for breakfast, lunch (Asian Buffet Lunch), and dinner (Seafood Buffet Lunch). Please bring the coupon you received at check-in to the restaurant and present it to the staff before enjoying the buffet. The price is 850 baht per person, with unlimited dining time. The Seafood Buffet Dinner is available from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Fresh oysters, shrimp, and crab are available in front of the restaurant. Guests who wish to order these items can do so as a special order, which is not included in the buffet price.

The restaurant can accommodate 300 guests. We recommend sitting at a table by the window for a view of the pool and the sea. It is especially romantic during sunset.

Let's take a look at what stations are available:

  • Seafood galore, with shrimp, shellfish, crab, and fish in abundance. Both One Ice and hot-served options are available, such as grilled shrimp, steamed squid, and steamed mussels. The Seafood dipping sauce is spicy and flavorful.

  • Sushi and sashimi: The sushi selection is not very extensive, but the sashimi is diverse, fresh, and the flesh is not mushy. The sweet egg and crab sticks are constantly replenished, so you can grab them whenever you want.

  • Salad bar: The vegetables were very fresh, and there was a wide variety of dressings to choose from. The Japanese cream dressing was particularly delicious, and we had two plates of it. We also added salmon to one of the plates for extra flavor, and drizzled it with seafood sauce. Eating the salad with the sauce was a real treat.

Hot Dishes

The hot dishes station offers a rotating selection of seafood, including stir-fried squid with fresh chili, garlic-fried crab, and baked clams. Other hot dishes include stir-fried chicken with mild chili, fried fish, fried potato with onion, stir-fried soba noodles, and various rice dishes such as fried rice and chili fried rice.

Dinner Buffet Delights: A Culinary Journey

The evening buffet presents a tantalizing array of culinary delights, catering to diverse palates and dietary preferences.

Noodles and Sauces: Freshly prepared noodles, cooked to perfection, are available in a variety of styles, offering a customizable dining experience. Three distinct sauces, including tomato, carbonara, and a rich, cheesy meat sauce, provide a symphony of flavors to complement the noodles.

Rice Dishes: Aromatic rice dishes, featuring succulent duck, flavorful char siu pork, and crispy pork belly, are sure to satisfy. The crispy pork belly, a particular highlight from the lunch menu, is available in abundance for an indulgent dinner experience.

Vietnamese Spring Rolls: Delicate Vietnamese spring rolls, reminiscent of the beloved "Luy Suan" salad, offer a refreshing and flavorful option. The translucent rice paper wrappers encase a symphony of fresh ingredients, while the accompanying peanut sauce, enhanced with a touch of seafood sauce, creates an explosion of taste.

BBQ Delights: Grilled to perfection, a selection of BBQ steaks, fish, and chicken awaits, prepared by skilled chefs. The smoky aroma and succulent flavors are sure to tantalize the taste buds.

  • Fruits are available on skewers for easy access, while bread and desserts include cakes and a limited selection of Thai sweets.

  • No text provided for translation.

    • Breakfast

Breakfast Buffet at The Boat Restaurant

The breakfast buffet at The Boat Restaurant, served from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, features a wide selection of fresh vegetables and toppings for creating your own custom salad. Smoked chicken breast, ham, and cheese are available to add protein and flavor. While the reviewer opted for a healthy salad with chicken breast and cheese, they acknowledge that their choice may not be the most weight-conscious option.

The sushi menu offers a wider variety than the dinner menu. The rice is soft and not hard. There is miso soup with vegetables and seaweed that you can add to your liking. The kimchi is a great way to cut through the richness of the food.

Let's take a look at the egg menu, which offers a wide variety of options. Even for fried eggs, you can choose the level of doneness, whether you prefer them cooked on one side or both. Scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, and omelets, which are beautifully shaped like rugby balls, are also available. If you don't like onions and bell peppers, please let us know. And for Egg Benedict, it comes with spinach and bacon.

The bakery offers a wide variety of baked goods, including muffins, rolls, danishes, focaccia, white and whole wheat bread, and croissants. There are four flavors of jam to choose from: chocolate, strawberry, pineapple, and orange. The bakery also offers a variety of hot beverages. Customers can enjoy their baked goods and beverages in the bakery's cozy seating area. The bakery is open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.

Orange juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, milk, plain yogurt, fruit salad, and various cereals: Froot Loops, Cocoa Balls, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, and Cocoa Chex.

Hot Dishes: The ham and sausage platter features both pork and chicken, with the sausage boasting a satisfyingly crisp texture. We particularly enjoyed the thick-cut bacon, which offered a substantial bite without being overly greasy or crispy like French fries. The menu also includes a grilled tomato dish with white beans in a tomato sauce.

The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of options, especially for those who enjoy fresh vegetables. After a restful night's sleep, waking up to a delicious breakfast is a truly enjoyable experience.

A Luxurious Stay at Avani+ The Royal Cruise Bangkok

Our recent stay at Avani+ The Royal Cruise Bangkok was an absolute delight. We enjoyed delicious meals, comfortable sleep, and exceptional convenience. The security guard at the elevator was particularly helpful, always ensuring we didn't have to press the button ourselves. The hotel offers a comprehensive range of amenities, catering to every need. The only challenge we faced was exploring the vast array of facilities and functions available. Avani+ The Royal Cruise Bangkok is an ideal destination for all types of travelers, whether families, couples, or business groups seeking a relaxing retreat or a productive conference venue.

The atmosphere is great and private. Our favorite part with my sister was taking pictures everywhere because it was so beautiful. If you want beautiful pictures that make you look like a celebrity, we recommend the Fat Coco Beach Club pool area, especially around 3 pm onwards.

    Tourist Attractions and Nearby Restaurants

This section provides information on nearby tourist attractions and restaurants.

There are many tourist attractions near the hotel, such as the Teddy Bear Museum, Art In Paradise, and Tiffany's Show Pattaya. Some of them are even within walking distance. Alternatively, you can go shopping at CentralMarina, which is less than 1 kilometer away. However, we already have a place in mind. We would rather find something to eat and go to a floating market.

    Jeh Juk Restaurant, Branch 1

Emerging from the hotel, we were just in time for lunch. We walked to the same spot to catch a songthaew to the Dolphin Roundabout, which is near Terminal 21. We then boarded the blue songthaew with the sign "Moo Baan Charoen Rat Phatthana - Na Jomtien" on the side to reach Jeh Juk Restaurant, Branch 1. Make sure to ask before boarding and specify the branch, as Jeh Juk has multiple locations. The fare was 20 baht. We also used Google Maps to track our route to avoid missing our stop.

The menu clearly displayed the prices. Initially, I intended to order oyster omelet, but after browsing the menu, I opted for crab roe chili paste, stir-fried squid and shrimp with mixed seafood, and deep-fried squid with garlic and pepper.

The crab roe chili paste is a light-flavored dish, more like a spicy salad. It contains only crab roe, so there are no shells to worry about, unlike when you eat whole crab. This dish costs 190 baht.

The garlic and pepper squid was bouncy and crunchy, with a fresh, non-fishy flavor. The taste was perfect with rice, but a bit rich for a snack. The spiciness level was mild. Price: 250 baht.

The restaurant initially made a mistake and included fish in our order, despite our request to exclude it. They promptly corrected the error and remade the dish, this time with shredded coconut, shrimp, and squid. The seafood was fresh and plentiful. The clear broth was flavorful and spicy, with a small cup of crushed green chilies provided on the side for additional heat. The dish was priced at 180 baht.

The price, taste, quantity, food quality and service are all excellent. We waited for the food for a short time. We arrived around 2:30 PM. The restrooms are clean and separated for men and women. It is conveniently located with parking available.

    Four Regions Floating Market Pattaya

    Hailing a Songthaew:

Flag down a songthaew in front of "Juk's Shop" and inform the driver that you wish to alight at the "Pattaya Nuea" intersection. Transfer to another songthaew bound for Na Kluea. The songthaew will turn onto Sukhumvit Road, where you should disembark. (For clarity, consider referencing Google Maps.) The fare for the first songthaew is 20 baht.

Crossing the Street and Transferring to Na Kluea-Sattahip Songthaew:

Cross the street and wait for a white songthaew displaying the "Na Kluea-Sattahip" route. The wait shouldn't be long. This songthaew will stop in front of the "4 Regions Floating Market." The fare for this journey is 15 baht.

The Four Regions Floating Market in Pattaya is divided into four zones representing the four regions of Thailand: North, South, Central, and Northeast. The market offers a wide variety of goods and services, and its spacious layout features clear signage throughout. Thai nationals enjoy free entry, with separate entry points for international tourists, primarily from China.

The market offers a variety of activities, including boat tours to enjoy the surrounding scenery, ziplining, a haunted house with traditional Thai ghosts, and opportunities to take selfies with beautifully dressed transgender women. Chinese tourists lined up to take photos. After a tiring walk, visitors can enjoy Thai massages and fish spas, where they can dip their feet into a pool of fish.

The market offers a wide variety of souvenirs, daily necessities, artwork, and food. One unique menu item is grilled crocodile meat. There are multiple dining areas available.

This market is suitable for those who want a change of scenery while eating and walking. It is a spacious market that can accommodate a large number of tourists, allowing for comfortable browsing without feeling crowded (we visited in the evening). However, the restrooms are not very clean and are poorly lit. While the four-region concept is interesting, aside from the venue's decor, we did not feel a significant difference, as the products sold were quite similar across the sections. Additionally, the food options lacked any notable highlights.

Open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

    Return Trip

Our house is located near Rangsit, so we called the van terminal to ask if they could pick us up at the 4 Regions Floating Market, which happened to be on the way. The van driver informed us of the arrival time and license plate number of the van and told us to wait on the opposite side of the floating market before the scheduled time. Don't get lost in the market because it's very large. It took us three rounds of asking vendors to find our way out. We don't remember the exact price of the van back to Rangsit, but it was around 180-200 baht. It was more expensive than the way there, but we didn't have to pay for a taxi from Mo Chit to Rangsit.

    Route:

Rama 9 - Din Daeng - Lad Phrao - Lak Si - Don Mueang

Note: If there are no passengers requesting to be dropped off on Vibhavadi Road, the van will use the Lam Luk Ka route.

    Additional Information:

    • Passengers are advised to call and book a ride shortly before departure.
    • Advance bookings are not accepted.

    Van service hours:

    • Monday - Saturday: 5:30 AM - 7:30 PM
    • Sunday: 5:30 AM - 8:00 PM

    Phone number: 083-112-1915

    ...Summary...

Mission accomplished! This trip was a success. We enjoyed delicious food, exciting activities, and relaxing moments by the sea. We indulged in a seafood buffet that left us feeling incredibly satisfied. All of these activities were seamlessly integrated with our relaxation time, ensuring that our journey was not overly tiring. The key to a successful trip like this is finding a well-equipped hotel with convenient access, such as the A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel Pattaya. This made our short getaway from Bangkok a truly restful experience. We discovered that a seaside vacation can be enjoyable even without swimming in the ocean. Exploring Pattaya without a car is also possible and enjoyable. ^^
